Realistically your computer is probably too outdated to buy better components. You're limited by the motherboard to ddr3 or even ddr2. The cost of a new PC would be cheaper.

I would say honestly looking into Linux Mint would be better than Windows 10, windows tends to eat RAM just idling because it can. Linux tends to run leaner and not do that. It's a preferred OS for old hardware. Yes, you will have to learn how to use the console to fix it here and there and brows forums when something breaks. You also won't be able to use most "official" windows office things, unless you do something like dual booting, and that is a viable solution if you have a large Hard Drive with storage to hold 2 different OS

Welcome to the age of memory validation.

You can have two sets of the "Same" ram. You can't just slap them in and run at high speeds. When you buy a 2x8 or 4x8 kit those have been validated and tested at the factory to work together. When you mix kits you can run into instability as you experience now. Also when and if they boot do go into windows for a bit and then restart back into bios to make sure the bios didn't slap you back to the default ddr4 speed to see if it actually was stable at higher speeds.

I know I suffered this for a bit myself. R5 3600x

With a 4x8 gb kit of 3400mhz kit. I can only get them stable at 3000mhz. So it can be a little bit of silicone lottery on the cpu memory controller.

Ryzen is mostly an outlier with its ram troubles, and its even more rare that losing 200mhz would be as big a deal as not having an extra 4 or 8gb of ram
