im not sure how did you install mint, but apparently the install process has not been normal, according to the picture you sent, you are logged in but somehow the X server is not running so the GUI is not showing up. try running startx command in the terminal and see what happens, it'll probably spit out an error or, the X server is not installed atall.

as someone who has spent more than a decade with Printers. If they use it that often it'll be fine. It's based on Toner which can not dry up being it's a dry substance to begin with. Just make sure they know that the replacement toner might seem pricy but it'll last a very long time. The printer likely comes with a starter cartridge that'll last a few hundred pages at best.

if you're not familiar with linux and terminal, i'd suggest you burn the mint image on a usb drive and install it again, the error is throwing 'operation not permitted' multiple times, im assuming it will work by using sudo, like sudo startx , but that is not the safe way to do it and is prohibited. resolving such issues are abit tricky and can be frustrating specially if you are new to the linux environment, so i suggest you to do a fresh install by downloading the mint image and installing with usb drive and save yourself some time and headache, unless you are looking for some challenge.
