my frame of reference is a gtx 1080 ti which is similar performance to an amd rx 6600 which is a bit more powerful than the rtx 3050

Both are options that have a decent amount of jobs, but they're both difficult in their own way.

With software, you need to learn how to create algorithms that are both efficient and memory conservative, and figure out which you wish to use with your current application.

With hardware, you need to know how electric and magnetic fields all interact with each other, and how to effectively create circuits with those limitations in mind. If you're working with mircroprocessors, you also have to take into account electron drift and quantum tunneling.

Either way, you're in for a ton of deep learning, I would advise you go with what resonates with you more.

Last semester I had to learn object oriented programming and learn gaussian physics as prerequisites for this semester's classes.
