i haven't played warframe in a very long time, and in particular i never really enjoyed playing octavia however i used her semi-often because she's very high scaling

for a mallet build, you don't need that much duration because you can simply throw another mallet down and enemies will quickly ramp up the damage by shooting at it again
inversely for most content you want more range, although throwing down amp alongside it increases mallet's range

i would still prioritize range, but as long as you can fill up a regular sized room with mallet then it should be sufficient

the trouble with mallet is that every 48 seconds for you, mallet's damage drops to 0

and has to re-scale

that's why the more duration the better

the one reason to use resonator is because mallet doesn't have target priority but resonator does

but the main reason not to use resonator at all is because moving mallet around makes your damage kind of inconsistent and makes it a little bit harder for enemies to shoot the mallet

mallet requires line of sight to do damage and also logically to absorb damage, because enemies aren't going to shoot it through walls

there are no ideally obstacle-less rooms, so resonator picking up mallet and running around with it means enemies aren't going to be able to contribute damage to it if the roller decides to go up a staircase or hide in another room

playing octavia, what you kinda do is just activate metronome, go invisible, toss mallet and amp down and then wait for enemies to shoot it while maintaining energy

if you're feeling brave you could shoot enemies, but killing enemies also means you're losing mallet damage absorption and damage output

and if you're playing octavia and heavily using mallet, you're probably using her for mallet's scaling damage against high-level enemies in the first place, meaning you aren't really planning to shoot anything because your weapons don't scale high enough

so octavia's gameplay is kinda boring, you just sit there and watch enemies shoot at a music ball

like i suppose you could use resonator if you really had to move your mallet, but:
A: if you put your mallet in a position where resonator can't get to it, resonator will just ignore it but resonator also has target priority, so it'll stop enemies from shooting mallet
B: why are you moving mallet anyway, it does the most damage when it's stationary + if you need to relocate you could just throw another one down where you need it because chances are if you use resonator to move mallet, it'll expire by the time you get to where you need to go

no big surprise why i don't like playing octavia, using invisibility and CL was more engaging gameplay than using mallet

octavia works best solo or in a team that actually cooperates

if your teammates are running around, they're firstly going to present another target for enemies to shoot at other than mallet, secondly going to kill mallet's absorption source and damage output, and finally they're also straight up going to move spawn locations

in a case like that, using resonator is actually a good idea because then enemies are more likely to shoot it than another teammate

but imo playing with randoms like that would also just be a frustrating experience using octavia in the first place
