And because there's a few quadrillion planet combinations you can always just warp to a new solar system if you don't like the ones in the current one

The original object of the game was to get to the center of the galaxy

But that just drops you in a random spot in the next galaxy down

Because you can build your own little base and there's no reward for reaching the middle players on various levels of galaxy have formed communities

Once you've found a personal spaceship you like and bought the freighter you want and build your own base and it's basically just exploration

CDPR treated the gaming community too well- and it cost them. CDPR’s biggest mistake was ever being consumer-friendly or caring for the community.

That is what a real unpopular opinion looks like people.

I would HATE HATE HATE to be a game developer. You slave away for years working crazy hours to make something for an entitled group of people who DEMAND perfection. If its not perfect- good luck.

Now let’s look at Days Gone, a game I played a while back and liked. Now honestly it’s not a great game- it has serious issues. But it is a fun game I expected nothing from, so I was surprised by the story and the combat. So many people liked it because they had low expectations.

Or check out Bethesda. Every game is a buggy mess and they hardly fix the bugs. Yet people always buy Bethesda games- every single time they release. We expect crap from Bethesda so we forgive a lot.

CDPR on the other hand had sky-high expectations. Part of this comes from marketing but a lot comes from CDPRs history and status in the community.

People honestly expected the game to have the interactive world of RDR2, the gameplay of Destiny, the story of Witcher 3, the animations of TLOU, the driving of Gran Turismo, and the complexity of a dating sim.

I hear lots of complaints about the game not being perfect in every respect- like this makes it a bad game.

Let’s remember CDPRs history

They always make ambitious games- as ambitious as they can afford
They are DRM free
They have no microtransactions
They produce GOTY status DLC
They produced perhaps the greatest AAA RPG of the last decade
No season passes or pre-order BS
They have built a great reputation for years

What did this reputation do for CDPR when they made their first mistake and released a game not ready for release? It did exactly nothing for them.

Any goodwill you buy is dropped at the first sign of trouble. It’s literally pointless to cater to gamers.

Beyond that, once you mess up there is no going back. You will never be anything but “trash” in the minds of many.

Can anyone recall any AAA developer every apologizing and offering refunds? In all of gaming history has it ever happened?

Despite literally giving people their money back to most this is still “them saving face”.

CDPR had a bad launch. What likely happened was that they had a 1.03 optimization patch in the works since October. They didn’t release the console version because they planned to roll out the patch that would fix the optimization right as the game released. They likely encountered a serious bug, had to delay the patch, and then had to continue with releasing the game. Or CDPR decided to turn even to take everyone's money and then offer refunds after they became good again.

Now CDPR will forever struggle with reputation. Even though they are a better and more honest developer than Bethesda, Bioware, EA, and Ubisoft they will be the laughing stock for years.

This is 100% because they had a good reputation and thus way higher expectations.

So remember- when every game company is predatory and lies to you- it's the industry many of you deserve.

EDIT: As I write this PSN has completely taken the game off the store and given everyone a refund.

This likely spells disaster for CDPR. It could spell the end of them.

No more Witcher, no more GOG, no more Cyberpunk. You all get Bioware looter shooters, Destiny 3, and Skyrim 76 for your RPG choices.
