1: how are they supposed to know when it matches? that kind of implies they have the models themselves to cross-reference
2: a whole slew of modders actually re-work raw base models because raws suck ass, to the point that you can feasibly argue that those models are no longer even from the game themselves and have only served as a reference for laser-accuracy, so what happens when the model just doesn't check out

but someone takes a gt model, retopo's it because raw gt models have really fucked up topology or tessellation that only works in polyphony's engine, reworks the model to the point where it's practically their own work and the only similarities are pretty much the accuracy, creates their own textures because gt textures are extremely low-res since polyphony upscales them in-game, fabricates their own bodykits and components, writes their own ext_config from pbr shaders down to how much the exhausts shake, the entire endeavour might take over 300 hours - all this does not include physics, because very few people can actually make good physics, so if you want an accurate driving car, one of the like ten well-rated people in the community has to specifically be asked or commissioned to make physics

gets lumped in with the same crowd because the first step, the model, was the same
