In general
Wot premium vehicles aren't exactly upgrades, they're often completely different vehicles. For example, I'm gonna take wotb.
There's the tiger 2, a really strong tank at tier 8, and there's the LOWE. Lowe is not exactly 100% related to the tiger 2, but it's the closest thing to it, and the lowe is an upgrade but a downgrade if you cant use it correctly.
Another example is the Chinese tank destroyer wz-120 1 g ft, which is in short, a very quick, fast reloading, 122mm high pen tank. Overall very good, and there's the tech tree version, which trades speed/reload for an even better 130mm cannon with extremely good damage. If you're a skilled player, you'll likely do better in the tech tree version than the premium one
