but you also have to take into factor what you want the car to do, bmws are usually rwd, most volkswagens are fwd, audis have awd variants, so on

im not that qualified on talking about how a car drives or which one is the best, but i think you should first and foremost think about the condition of a car

10k good condition cheap car is better than a 10k crap condition expensive car

for example lets compare these few cars i found on my local second hand car site

1. Volkswagen Golf Mk1 going for 9900€, taken good care of and from what i see no rust or signs of welding (you want to be careful of rust)
2. BMW E30 Touring going for 9900€, the engine has been restored due to high mileage, the rust has been removed and the car has not been driven in the winter
3. Mercedes-Benz C124 going for a bit less, 6000€, the person is trading it out, the car is not in prime condition as its meter has stopped working around the 300k km mark and its really dirty, it most likely has some rust on the bottom. sure, cheaper, but still

at the price range of, say, 5k to 8k you can find likely any "normal" car you want in good enough condition, the problem youre going to face is picking one, and thats your part

what do you want from a car?

anyways i got you a car that i would personally like to own at some point and maybe even tune it a little wee bit

youll probably find a good condition E46 for a bit less than 5k depending on region and luck, you could allocate some money to making it look nice or giving it a bit more performance

you could apply that to the E36, hell, even the E30 if you get really lucky

but that also depends on if you want a project car or not, if you want a car that you can drive off the previous owner youll have to loosen your purse a little more

but a lemon could in some cases even save you money if you fix it, some good condition vintage cars here go for 30k when i can find a stripped one for 1,5k
