I bought a vstar 1100 for $1200 in April 2020. I proceeded to put 60k miles on it, then lock the front wheel at low speed (15 mph) and shatter my humerus (which isn't humorous at all!) but do no real damage to the bike. Sold it for $1200.

Somehow I sold the bike for the same as I paid for it - but ended up about $6k down (~$95k before the medical insurance kicked in) in the end.

now I have two Kymco 150cc scooters in my garage but haven't got them roadworthy because I'm not quite ready to injure myself again.

I avoid using it on my bike because it slips easily, and the bike is equiped with CBS (combined braking system) which already slightly applies the front brake for me

Even with progressive braking, I've tried many times on open roads and after a certain point it wants to buck me off if I don't let off. But now at least I know its limits if I do get in a situation where the full braking force is neede d

The Dunlops they typically ship with come pre-petrified. I don't understand those tires. They're hard as a rock with zero grip but wear out as fast as sport bike tires. I ran Metzler ME888 as they seemed to have a good grip:life ratio, but clearly not enough grip to keep me from grabbing the front brake too hard 😄

pulling/reinstalling the rear wheel on the vstar 1100 (shaft drive) was such a pain in the ass that the additional cost of a longer-lasting tire was worth it.

now, if you're one of those folks that owns a motorcycle to look at it in the garage and talk about riding - the cheapest set of tires is going to dryrot just as fast as the most expensive.

iots literally still the most common engine swap for a project, its cheap has massive aftermarket support and can handle a literal fuckton of power and its quite small for a v8

but damn near everyone v8 swapping anything just immediately jumps to stuffing LS's in

and any forum i go to about documention for other swaps on my cars just has comment saying "ls swap it instead"

like yeah an LS is smaller than literally any other engine

but im also smaller than 90% of the chairs on this planet, doesnt mean im gonna sit in all of them

LS swaps are the aftermarket version of car manufacturers not taking risks anymore

i'd rather spend $10k for a crate engine and bee done with it than spend $30,000-$300,000 on a billet custom rotary or v10/v12 if i'm not made of money

its probably pointing to either a 2j or an LS

or whatever OEM plug n play swap is available for said car

because if i told someone at work i engine swapped my e46 most of themn would probably think its an LS or a JZ

Given the context of that, It would be pretty sick to see someone swap a regular 1.6 model with the more coveted 1.8
