dire shard
#

the prado also punches at a different segment

#

the segment that cars like the forester and bronco sport aim at is a really misunderstood one

#

they're not bnf offroaders but neither are they purely fwd/fake awd urban suvs

#

they aim to bridge the gap between the two: an inexpensive daily driver suv that is capable of moderate offroading (you ever seen what a forester can do? no slouch)
the target audience are wilderness enjoyers who can only own one car

#

it's not a defender competitor

#

not a landcruiser, gx, or prado competitor

#

i mean fuck, they have 2.0l 4 cylinders

#

it's just a shame that the bronco sport is pretty much dogshit at all tiers aside from the badlands

#

the forester on the other hand is pretty much the same car across all trim levels, aside from the base model which doesn't have x-mode and the wilderness trim that comes with AT tires and underbody plating

#

as i've said time and time again until i've been bleeding from the eyes and shitting from the ears it's not as easy as comparing every suv on the planet with each other

#

this thing is a bronco sport/forester competitor, fighting in the 1.5l-2.5l 4 cylinder unibody segment

#

it looks like a defender and that's all, it's less than half the price of a defender, has half the cylinders of a defender, is targeted at the average joe rather than wealthier upmarket people

#

it's not fighting defenders or jeeps or grenadiers for rich people, it's fighting entry level suvs for people who can only afford one reliable car, that are slightly skewed for offroad duty

#

neither is it close to the prado, isn't the prado bnf (and also like two times the price, as well)?

#

closer to a rav4 trd maybe, but those have fake awd too

#

we're talking, again, 1.5l-2.5l 4 cylinder unibody with some form of offroad-dedicated awd system targeting people who can't spend that much on cars and can only own one car that has to be both their daily and offroading vehicle
subaru's forester has symmetrical awd and x mode throughout pretty much their entire lineup aside from the base model, and the bronco sport has an electronic locking rear diff in the badlands trim (every other trim sucks ass)
an 4wd trim of the t2 can likely do this too, or else it'd shit itself on a gravel incline

shitty new cars have always existed

#

the mitsubishi mirage was the cheapest new car you could buy up until its discontinuation last year

#

when you're the type of person who treats cars as an appliance (which are, coincidentally, the type of people who would benefit the most from EVs), you could give less of a fuck about interior quality or how the car looks and drives

#

the fact that mitsubishi cancelled all their cars in favour for SUVs aside from the mirage up until 2024 is testament to how many people buy these shit cars just because they're cheap and work

#

looking at cars like they need to be luxury is how we ended up in this mess where entry level cars are all 30k, 40k now

#

"electric mitsubishi mirage" is a pretty big market, considering that the next cheapest car that isn't a tata is like, a versa... and nissan isn't exactly in a healthy way right now

the engine in a mirage is hardly an engine

people buy the mirage because it's economical, not because it's an old low power high-revving 4age adjacent or something - the exact type of person who would be happiest in an EV
besides, if it's a seagull or something, BYD's battery technology isn't some sort of cheap trash - that's a huge upgrade
let's not give engines to people who don't want engines, this kind of consumer is better suited having a car they can charge at home for cheap

dire shard
#

they're happy, happier than they would be if you plopped them in a benz or a civic even

#

the car cost them beans to buy, beans to maintain, beans to refuel

it drives at legal speeds, it turns, it keeps them dry and warm when it rains, as a new car it doesn't blow up or have tons of issues that they don't want to deal with like a cheap used car, and it might have android auto for them to bluetooth their phone into - what else could an appliance need
the only thing they could wish for is more space, which leads into the whole other reason of why the mirage was discontinued: people still just want SUVs

#

the issue is twofold:
1: back then there weren't a whole lot of SUVs to begin with, and the technology really wasn't there - you wanted lightweight and stable cars, and SUVs were anything but stable at higher speeds
now there are tons of them because they're all people want
on the flipside of that... there aren't a whole lot of electric coupes or sedans, and most of them come from china where company and customers alike typically don't care for motorsport programs
2: SUVs are just inherently better for offroading... why bother wasting time on making a tall car when your company produces tall cars to begin with, just grab one of those to start with as a base

#

the super sport is the regular variant of the 300+... it's no regular chiron
the jesko is a jesko, not the absolut
if they're neck and neck, then the absolut's reduction in drag has to have a superior result

night steeple
#

well someone crashed an AMG GT on Sepang's last straight, general info says brake hose failure / brake fade, and the brakes are aftermarket, and they didnt really brake way past the braking point

my thought being: how much of an upgrade is an aftermarket brake kit gonna do to an AMG GT assuming the stock brakes should be pretty good already lol

dire shard
#

when has anybody on a track ever settled for "pretty good" or "good enough"

night steeple
#

speed was 200kmh at the 100m mark if I remember, gravel trap + safety barrier, car's toast

a lot of people are saying the driver did not brake earlier too, that was way too fast

dire shard

sounds like skill issue

night steeple
dire shard

night steeple
#

the other car was probably like: bro, time to brake, stop flashing me

dire shard
#

and yes, he was still accelerating beyond the braking point for that corner

#

there's a passenger too šŸ’€

#

brake issues would be skill issue by the installer, i don't see a reason why it would be inferior if properly installed but i do see a reason why someone would want to upgrade them
the amg gt is not a track car from the start

#

but whether the brakes were OE or not at this point is irrelevant - the crash was driver issue

night steeple

great car in gran turismo i say

im gonna try to recreate this in assetto corsa since its got this track as a mod

dire shard
#

there are no good physics for an amg gt

#

ifso/unknown have a visually decent paid amg gt, but because they don't do physics, it won't drive very good

night steeple
#

wanna see how far back should I start braking, any car will work ok

dire shard
#

i'm not an aggressive driver, but at 220 in a stock amg gt, probably about 250m before the corner and slowly reduce the braking distance as i get more confident

#

it's a straight into a hairpin, easy to get lost in the glorious roar of the mercedes v8
