unborn rain

Ok..

hidden meteor
# kind osprey Looks fun how much did you snag that for

15k but you can get a cheaper one with under 10k USD. this one had 80k miles, good server logs, clean title, and a bunch of upgrades. recaro seats, upgrades brakes, adjustable Bilstein coilovers, extended roll bar, new clutch and IMS, and a few more things. got the hard top for 2600 from another guy, that took longer to find than the car

#

so, there’s a lot to the 987’s. you are probably familiar with some of the trends and differences. as far as practicability goes, a lot is out of the room when you got 2 seats, but its otherwise relatively practical. you get a front and rear trunk for lots of storage space, glove compartment and a few other interior storage sections, and decent fuel milage in particular for the 987.2’s (2009-2012). generally Caymans are a little more expensive than the soft top Boxster. manual is more expensive than the 987.1’s Tiptronic automatic transmission, but the 987.2’s PDK double clutch is more expensive than the manual. 987.2’s also lost the IMS issue, so they are more reliable. the IMS issue was mostly a problem with the 986’s, in particular from 2000-2002, but it can rarely affect a 987.1 (2005-2008). other than that, reliability is solid on these cars. they have great build quality.

#

you really want to go for the 2009-2012 987 (987.2), but since there are fewer made due to the global recession and the fact that they’re better than the 987.1’s, they’re both more rare and more expensive

#

where I live in California, a decent 987.1 Boxster with a manual and under <90k miles may go for about 25-30k. a tiptronic or more miles usually goes for <20k. on the flip side, a PDK 987.2 Cayman with <90k miles may go for 35-40k.

#

unless its basically never driven or extensively modded, the 987.2’s don’t usually go for more than 40k. thats approaching 997 and 981 territory

#

i would really recommend getting a 987, or even a 986! they’re so much fun to drive around, pretty much the most pure sports car experience you can get with that naturally aspirated mid-engine, while still being relatively modern and useful for daily driving.

steady cove
# spark pagoda Nope Cars are inefficient garbage

Cars are designed with fuel efficiency and environmental impact in mind. They provide convenience and freedom, allowing people to travel long distances efficiently, making them essential for many industries and emergencies. Just remember that next time that grandma feels sick its not the metro thats gonna get her to the hospital.

spark pagoda
#

Public transport again takes the W

#

Cars aren't efficient at all
You would know that if you'd look at some actual statistics
Millions of individual engines with no mind given to space efficiency, keep adding lanes bro, it will solve the traffic

#

While the Chad train passes by ignoring all traffic

steady cove
#

also public transport often requires people to travel on a fixed schedule and may not have routes that cover every area, especially in rural or remote areas. This can make it difficult or impossible for some people to access the places they need to go.

lunar berry
#

Unless you live outside the US good luck with public transportation lmao

#

Aint got nothing around where i live

#

Having a car also offers a lot more freedom

spark pagoda
#

That's why I said i hate car based infrastructure
Its a whole concept
The infrastructure is built around cars to make them seem efficient
Because selling cars is profitable
Its not rocket science

lunar berry
#

Theres things u cant change

spark pagoda
#

Capitalism is all encompassing
There are no isolated realities
In a communist world, cars will only be used for a very niche thing
Like climbing a mountain for a vacation
Because human settlements will be walkable

steady cove
spark pagoda
#

The desire for suburban living is also pushed by capitalism

lunar berry
#

Idk what kind of place you live in but public transportation just wouldnt work here or for most of the people ik

lunar berry
spark pagoda
#

The urban sprawl is a symptom of the divide between the countryside and the cities
Which is a symptom of capitalism
Because selling individual cubicle houses is more profitable than a brutalist or peasant architecture

lunar berry
#

Are u just tryna say capitalism is bad or smth cus thats what im kinda getting out of this whole thing

spark pagoda
#

Of course it's bad
I explicitly said, "when communism comes"

lunar berry
#

So what would u rather have

spark pagoda
#

Also the urban sprawl is a tactic to further alienate the worker from his workplace
Make him drive an hour to his work so cars are legitimised and he feels alienated from his own labor even more

uncut saddle
#

One can dream

#

For one I'd say don't throw buses into the pile of planes and cars

#

Would be valuable to keep those

spark pagoda
#

Yeah
Buses probably useful

#

Also trucks too
But my ideal settlement is like walkable communities in which workplaces are not a one hour drive away from your home

old sedge
heady swift
#

I travel abroad extremely frequently, and try to use buses and trains as much as possible

#

a major issue, however, is that I can only do that within western/northern europe

#

and some eastern countries like czech republic

#

southern europe and the balkans are mostly accessible through plane or car

#

which could be easily remedied with an EU-led bus and train network

#

realistically, we could have a european high-speed train network by 2030 if we allocate enough funding and buy up trailway companies. A socialist revolution isn't even needed and it would fall under the horizon programme (so be active and vote during european parliament elections, this could literally help)

#

but travelling between bodies of water, such as from europe to the states, requires planes

#

ships have an extremely detrimental effect on ocean wildlife, and planes are the lesser evil in this case

spark pagoda
#

That's true
But socialism will mandate a kind of self sufficiency
So travel between the Americas, Australia and the rest of the world will be mostly only done when absolutely necessary
Like cargo mostly
Recreational travel will be possible but it will probably cost alot more than it already is
And yeah, one doesn't need socialism for everything but the EU will only open a transnational network if it's atleast a little bit profitable

old sedge
#

And ships are too slow

#

Even typical everyday cars like Corolla and Civic are faster than cruise ships.

spark pagoda
#

Better cargo transportation

#

And more carbon efficient
But yeah
They can be dangerous
That's besides the point

old sedge
#

Although ships are great for cargo, they still have the speed limit. Without airplanes, the time to distribute covid vaccines would be far longer than how long it actually takes.

#

And lockdowns and community quarantines would probably last much longer that they did because of that

heady swift
#

so they lobby against it too

heady swift
#

ships are used to bring civics from japanese factories to european and american markets

old sedge
#

Yeah, the travel time from Ph to US with ships takes far more time than taking planes

spark pagoda
#

The reason to use such any travel mode should actually be discussed
It should not be there just because we can

#

We should not have airlines going from any part of the world to another as much as any other mode of transport just because we can
Supply chains should be discussed
Also it's stupid to believe that capitalism didn't code how these transport modes were built from the get go

old sedge
#

Fair enough. I think one reason why airplanes are still here because people dream of reaching the skies.

heady swift
#

airplanes suck to be in

#

trains are much better

#

even within schengen, I have to check-in, walk places, go through scanners, etc

#

with buses and trains you just need a ticket

#

et voila

#

you can walk around, bring your own shit

#

no rules on carry-on luggage sizes and weight

old sedge
#

Depends. If I get to choose between 8 hours of travel by train or bus and 30 mins of travel by plane, I would choose the plane

heady swift
#

you need to check in, show ID/passport, board, wait for take-off, do baggage stuff

#

that'll take at least 2 hours

#

more if there are stringent controls

#

I've flown to germany and frequently used the ICE trains, and really prefer the latter

#

1/4th the price, more comfort, no controls, can bring anything I want, there's food onboard, leg room, I can walk

old sedge
#

If I don't have to wait for 8 hours, then I'll still take the plane

heady swift
#

short lion
#

it was an option

#

i looked at the R8 as well, when i was searching for the TT

kind osprey
#

in 2010 carbon ceramics were very very rare unless you were speccing out a Ferrari race car

short lion
#

but the maintenance is just meh

kind osprey
#

and 5k for ceramic rotors would be extremely cheap

#

I think a full set is closer to 25,000

maybe just the pads are 3k

short lion
#

i could get brakes & pads for around 5k for the TT

#

was considering it since there are some major issues with the front brakes

The fact that carbon ceramics are an option on a new audi tt is kinda goofy

I seriously doubt a full set of carbon ceramic rotors cost 25k

now they are a lot more common

#

I was talking about 2010

jagged sentinel
#

#

Now I'm tracking

kind osprey
#

some ceramics still cost that much though, Porsche and Mclaren still charge around there

#
