Clean Uninstallation Guide for the Rockstar Games Launcher

Before starting make sure all Rockstar Games Content is closed including the Rockstar Games Launcher and or Social Club as well as any game titles.

Uninstallation Process
Step 1: Open File/Windows Explorer > Documents > Delete "Rockstar Games" Folder
NOTE: this will reset all your story mode progress and save files, so make a backup if needed. As well as log you out of Social Club and no GTAO progress will be lost.

Step 2: Go to C: (Local Drive) > Program Files and delete the Rockstar Games Folder.

Step 3: launch Win + R and type appdata > Local and delete the Rockstar Games Folder.
NOTE: it's recommended to check all appdata folders for the folder including Local and Roaming.

Step 4: Uninstall both the Rockstar Games Launcher and Social Club, making sure to delete Social Club first then the Launcher, without uninstalling game data, unless you experience issues with GTAV.

Optional (Do before uninstalling and reinstalling)
Delete Rockstar Games Folders from:
Program Files x86 (if avaliable)
OneDrive (if avaliable)
Reboot PC after deleting all folders

Step 5: Reinstall the Rockstar Games Launcher and continue the installation process as normal.

Cache Clear and Game Verification Guide - All Platforms

This guide will explain how to both verify your game files and clean any unwanted cache files that could slow down the game or cause other issues.

Game Files Verification Guide - PC Only:
This can be done easily by doing the following:
Rockstar Games Launcher: Open the Launcher > Go to Settings > My installed games > Grand Theft Auto V. After locating the game, you should see this screen. After you see the screen press on verify integrity and wait until the verification has been completed.
Steam: Launch Steam > Go to Library > Grand Theft Auto V > Right click on the game in the Library list > Local Files. After pressing local files, you should see this screen. After that press on Verify Integrity of Game Files and wait for the verification to be completed.
Epic Games Launcher: Open the Launcher > Go to Library > Locate GTAV and click on the three dots > Click Verify and wait until the verification has been completed.

Cache Clear Guide - All Platforms:

__**PlayStation & Xbox**__

1. Hold the power button until the console turns off and unplug the console from its power source for 20-30 seconds.
2. Reconnect the power to the console and turn it on then launch the rockstar title/game.
3. Wait until the splash art has disappeared, and hold down L1 and R1 or LB and RB throughout the opening scenes, if done successfully you should automatically enter the brightness calibration settings or HDR calibration if supported on next generation consoles. You will know it worked when your game settings are set back to default.

__**PC**__

Rockstar Games Launcher
Note: this will clear your in-game settings and story mode progress but not in GTAO. Make a backup by copying the Rockstar Games Folder in Documents.

1. Open the Launcher and select Settings
2. Select Account Information
3. Select Delete next to Delete Local Profile
4. Select Confirm
5. Restart the Rockstar Games Launcher and sign in to your account

Social Club failed to intiliaize guide - PC

Most common error codes: 17/15

There are many ways this issue could happen as well as many ways to fix it.

How/why did the error occur?

The main cause of the error is having a corrupted social club installation or a program interfering with Social Club launching such as an anti-virus, and other possible issues.

__**Possible solutions**__

1 - Disabling controlled folder access inside of Windows Security: This can be done by typing "Controlled Folder Access" in Windows Search using Win + S or instead to press on and allow any Rockstar-related or Social Club related folders or files inside of Windows Security (if enabled or if game files are listed).

2 - Disable all Windows Security protections: using Windows Search (Win + S) try to disable WIndows Defender Firewall and attempt a system reboot then try again, if worked. keep Windows Defender Firewall off and turn on Windows Security.

3 - Refer back to the [Rockstar Games Launcher clean uninstallation guide](#gta-tech-support message)

4 - Run the Rockstar Games Launcher as an administrator: then launch GTAV or other titles facing the problem from the launcher. But make sure that any other launchers that have access to the game aren't running and that the Rockstar Games Launcher doesn't get interfered by anything else.

Login issues and Social Club account errors guide when logging into the Rockstar Games Launcher - PC

This guide will cover some issues and errors when logging into the Rockstar Games Launcher and why some Social Club accounts may lead to some titles crashing from modders.

How/why does the error occur?

The error may occur due to a lot of reasons such as a corrupted Rockstar Games Launcher or modders ruining certain functions. However most issues aren't related to modders unless you experience game crashes with a specific account while loading.

• Possible Issues

Authentication ticket failure or failed to retrieve

Follow the [Social Club failed to initialize guide.](#gta-tech-support message) After which you may experience an infinite Rockstar Games Launcher load on specific accounts for an unknown reason but there's a workaround to solve this issue if you own the game on other launchers.

Steam: Make a new social club account and log into it in the Rockstar Games Launcher then attempt to launch any title on Steam such as GTAV, the Rockstar Games Launcher will prompt you to automatically change accounts which will force you to log into the account preventing the issue.
Note: this workaround isn't guaranteed to work

Epic Games Launcher: Perform the same steps done on Steam

However, if you own the game on the Rockstar Games Launcher there's no known workaround yet as it's the main cause of the issue. You can contact Rockstar Support to further assist you with the issue but so far there's no information on a workaround for the Rockstar Games Launcher.

Failed to log-in automatically

This may happen if you changed your Social Club credentials which can simply be fixed by entering them again.

Offline sign-in fallback failed

This issue has no definitive solution and it is related to the [Offline Mode Guide.](#gta-tech-support message)

Failed to retrieve essential assets

This error can happen for different reasons but it often means that the Rockstar Games Launcher or Social Club are corrupted or missing files which can be fixed by following the [clean uninstallation guide for the Rockstar Games Launcher](#gta-tech-support message) or [Offline Mode guide.](#gta-tech-support message)

Really dependant on server location, I usually play NA-East at around 30-50 ping

Valorant is shockingly lower, averaging 19

and I think the highest I've had on a AAA game was at the start of MW19/WZ, with around 80 ping, but that later went down to 40 after a month or so

gta keeps asking me to activate it for my rockstar account.
it asks me to give them a code, but when i do, they say the code is already in use (i use the key/code from my steam which is where i bought gta)

I have found a temporary fix. If i delete my social club folder, then run steam as administrator and verify the files, i have to log into social club on launch but then it works again.

However, this fix only ever works for a couple days. The longest it's worked is like 3 days, then it's right back to asking ''please activate gta for my rockstar/sc account"

Any idea for a permanent fix?

I was wondering if someone else already had this kind of graphic lags.

(Playing on PC, with Rockstar launcher)
Didn't played last few days. This morning I wanted to play, there was an update to make.
I then launched the game, and after 30 minutes, the game became laggy, like fps drop-rate with latency between my mouse movement and what is shown on screen.
I immediately restarted the game, thinking "it's just a bug", but after 30 minutes... Laggy again.
To try smtg else, I tried to lower all graphics-related parameters, relaunched the game, annnnnd again.
I then went into my penthouse while lagging as hell, and it was smooth! Whenever I'm inside a building, the lag stop. Then I go out, and it's lagging again.
Also tried to switch from online to singleplayer, but the lag kept going.

Any advice ?

PS: not happening on other games, PC is way more powerful than needed for GTA? never had an issue like this in GTA
