I have no official sources for this so I won't go to DMs 😔
I just remember multiple people explaining/claiming in #gta-online about how the merge glitch was somehow a very rudimentary, inefficient way to "potentially" dupe cars, since you were able to carry mods over from one car to the other, and while recounting this now it doesn't make much sense, during the 1.5x cayo week (when the merge was patched) the chat made much more sense.

At least, this what I hear was the reason why Rockstar was so quick to patch this glitch, considering it a "money" glitch or whatever I guess

I have never personally looked into dupe glitches and have no idea how they work
