I've read on steam forums in posts about the server griefing that it's mainly a US server problem. Some people say that EU and Asia servers are fine and they can VPN to them to avoid it. Haven't tried it, myself.

It’s only once per account. You’ll have to make a new account to get it again. But the career path you choose doesn’t really make a difference at all
