W and S does not change the attitude. It either slows it down (S) or just accelerates it (W).
Think of it like a car. W makes you go fast, S slows you down or stops you, A steers you to the left slightly, D steers to the right. Now as for the actual plane controls, Num5 brings the nose up, and you go higher in the air, Num8 brings the nose down, and so you go down closer to the ground, probably crashing if you are not careful enough. Num4 and Num6 are rolling left and right respectively.
