The pole hit him off but the game didn't transfer that information fast enough so it looked like he was fine

Game tends to be really screwy when clients are out of sync as it will try and 'interpolate' where the player / vehicle they're populating will end up going

In really bad cases I'd be flying with one of my friends and would see them crash and blow us up 37 times in 10 seconds only to get end up back in the air flying normal as if nothing ever happened
