He exhaled, and opened his eyes. The malaise faded away, though he ended up squinting in harsh and hazy fluorescent light of the hangar bay. The shaking intensified, teeth chittering, metal rattling. The boosters engaged slowing the decent. The commander popped the hatch, stood up, looked to the infantry standing by and started yelling something I didn’t quite catch. To be honest, I don’t even remember much of anything I was so nervous, this was my first op and beyond that, my first time ever setting foot on another planet. The commander sunk back down slamming shut the hatch shut. He slapped me on the shoulder, and said “don’t look so worried, no matter what you’ll be a hero to the little fellows… Dead or Alive”. After a second with a serious face, he grinned and broke into a fit of laughter along with the rest of the crew and for a split second, I forgot what was happening, the laughter and bravery (or insanity) of these men inspired me, I laughed too... Until the bay doors opened that is… Then it all became real.

"No, sir!" Private Thatcher chirped over the voice channel. "You've heard of cutting-edge tech, yeah? Well, "Alonso", Rocinante here is what they call 'bludgeoning-edge tech.' It does two speeds; slow and dog slow."
The sergeant sucked in a breath through his teeth and slowly nodded to himself. The private continued: "You can't blame H.C., though. This was the best the money could buy."
