Hm. Fair enough.
Intel's media engine is a very very good media processor
Aren't those laptop dies?
Unless I missed something
But I thought they wanted to skip Ultra 300 series for desktop
Yea they are the laptop chips
They are lunar lakes replacement
They are also semi replacing arrow lakes laptop chips
Got my first quote for 2026. Up 22% from last year. Gonna be a fun year
Picked up a monitor color calibration tool specifically for OLEDs. Oh man they look so nice now.
looking for recommendations on an afordable desk check for a larger guy with back problems. (I am 240lbs)
please dont say "go find a used hermin" that isnt an option and they keep there value better then most cars so even used I cant aford one
Learned something new today. Specifically for WD HHD drives. They are all the same. The only difference is slight firmware tweaks. An example, WD Reds are the same exact drives as your standard consumer HDD drive. The only firmware tweak is they spin at different rpms as to not cause resonance vibrations. The WD Purples for NVRs, they tweaked the firmware to allow for more checksum errors cause apparently thats common with video files.

Any opinions on the Ubitquity UniFI Dream Router 7?
As a Ubiquiti user, even though I use a UDM SE.
I really like the Ubiquiti UniFi.
You have a lot of control at your finger tips, but dont forget to create a local account.
ah ok, I have 0 experience, a fried said something about cloud accounts and something along the line
what is a local account then? Usually in Germany you go with the FritzBox but I really want to give the DreamRouter a try<
I have Unifi at home and work. Absolutely recommend it for people that that want to use it
LTT also always seem to praise them
It does have cloud accounts for access. MFA is mandatory. They also have local accounts that work in conjunction with the cloud access if you want.
They also have apps for all your peripheral devices like phones and tablets if you want to manage it that way
sounds good
They're amazing.
Anything that you get from Ubiquiti works together, so you can get 1 Dream Router now, get a 2nd Dream Router in half a year.
And because they use the same account your password and stuff can be shared, even if they're worlds apart.
That way if you live in 2 homes, you have the same passwords and SSIDs.
It's 1 massive ecosystem.
Oh, and if you have multiple gateways or routers, you can all link them up together, and if you have surveillance cameras or video doorbells, the amount of resources for the cameras and such stack.
So as an example, if 1 Ubiquiti router can support 10 cameras, 2 Routers can support 20, and even the internal storage is being stacked.
ok thx for the insights 🙂
Same, been using Ubiquiti network and security for 6 years or so now.
Really want their travel router (whenever it comes in stock again). Being able to directly tie into my networks built in vpn remotely is a huge plus.
Intel next gen panther lake launching tomorrow yippeee
That's the Ultra 300 laptop chips right?
Yee
Aye
Crap chip
Just a refresh same poor battery life sane rough performance intel gonna dominate apu laptops
@jade scaffold
CES got the nickname Clanker Electronic Show after Nvidia only spoke about AI
Seems about right
@jade scaffold
Intel is actually talking about consumers can buy
Ikr
They started with actual performance
Which seems to utterly crush everything but the AI max which it's not really trying to compete with anyway outside of ai which it's better at too
Nvidia was a massive waste of time, I can't watch the entire Intel show but Ultra 300 being something really good.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Better than Jenson literally laughing at the consumers for not having enough money for Nvidia products.
What was it, 50% faster while also more efficient?
Even more so
70% in gaming
I assume thats because of the much better rt performance
I have the feeling that with Ultra 400 Intel will be able to steal some gaming market from AMD
I think this one will
Lunar lake had poor adoption only because it was really expensive to produce and only had a small market segment
Majority on 5090 laptops already ran Intel Ultra 200.
Probably because it's more efficient and stays cooler.
Panther lake being as modular as it is can be used across the entire mobile pc market
How would the fair with handhelds?
I personally hope they will kick AMD in the groin with handhelds.
Oh well, only time will tell.
In theory yea
The 4xe core model should be faster than AMDs 8 CU models
one you had a M-Ship you never want to go back to those...
Tbf they were never good in the first place
Intel's chips on mobile have been vastly superior to AMDs for like 3 generations now
AMDs issue is they have abominable Io efficiency
CES was kinda depressing asside from intel it was just total AI yap very little time spent on architecture
AMD announced 1 chip that noone should buy the showed off for all of 10 seconds their next gen server chips without going into any real detail
Intel's new chip atleast looks good will likely be the go to for most SIs for gaming laptops and thin and lights
XPS is back
Clanker Electronic Show.
It's not a Consumer Electronic Show anymore
1 of the fewer good things 😅
Still, a disappointing show, AI is once again the most mentioned thing
Oh sorry I was talking about Apple Silicon
Oh I know I was saying comparing to an AMD chip has never been a fair fight
is this sexy? https://youtu.be/rmiB2NnXgPU
Thanks again to Dell for sponsoring this video. Learn more about the U52 here: https://dell.to/6005CTE9z @DellTechnologies
The Dell U52 is the world's first 52" 6K monitor; it's a big boi. Just think of the spreadsheets you could fit on something of this caliber. Also the monitor has a whole host of I/O including 2.5GbE LAN, that's SICK.
Dis...
Wth man 9950x3D²???
Double the 3DV-cache??
..makes me wonder about the thermals....
Thermals will probably be pretty bad
The way the vcache on these is it just adds the same amount to the other CCD, as of right now on the 9900x3d and 9950x3d (And the 7000 versions) only one CCD has 3D VCache and the other one has the normal amount of vcache. This shouldn't change temps much
I know how the VCache works, but it does increase the CPUs hotspot.
If it'd make any meaningful increase they'd lower the voltage and clock speed to counter it. They don't typically run hotter than their non x3d versions.
Get Grammarly today! http://grammarly.com/ltt1
AMD, what are ya doing buddy? You gave us so many good CPUs the last few years, but THIS is what you're showing off at CES this year? "AI" CPUs that are only marginally better than the previous ones, a better binned refresh of the 9800X3D called the 9850X3D, and then they talk about an AI agent to ...
Insanity, recommended specs for 60 fps at 1080p 32 GB of ram and 12 GB of Vram.
https://twistedvoxel.com/007-first-light-pc-system-requirements-officially-revealed/
Thermals will be fine
They were never an issue with Ryzen 9000x3D
The cha he is under rather than ontop of the CCD so the old thermal issues don't apply to them
That is kinda insane
Tbf it's also probs wrong
Like you're at 1080p turn your textures down it won't make a difference
Other than losing VRAM usage masivly
3060ti for 1080p 60fps is kinda reasonable tho tbh
Kinda eyeing up the new del XPS
I’m liking the Premium line so far
I'm looking at it for the new intel chip more than anything things insane

Finally got my Dual monitor arm setup up. Way, way better than my cheap one Ive been using. I finally can angle my 2nd monitor to be able to read chat in streams. Its a Huanuo Nitroglide, and each arm can hold 26 pounds.
CPUs advertise core counts and thread counts, but those numbers are easy to misinterpret.
This video explains what cores and threads actually mean, how hyperthreading and hybrid CPUs work, and why more cores don’t always translate to more performance.

It turns out my company has 12TB in 512GB NVMe's lying around
Hang on I calculated wrong, each of those trays holds 24 and we have about 3 of those
Nobody here uses them, we can practically take them home for free
Hey flash spenny these days
Take some of that shit
More storage never hurt anyone and a raid array could be fun
Hrm. I'm happy that the AMD Adrenaline update didn't just install the AI stuff without asking, but... I didn't want the software to remove itself. I guess I'm doing a manual install.
Exactly xD
gonna put that in a raid 1000 or whatever xD
nach, will probably use 2 on zfs as a raid1 low-power rPi server/gateway and another two as a raid0 cache for a NAS.
Tho one after the other and I first need to buy some big ass HDDs haha
need good 10 key mechanical keyboard recommendation
i have a 5 year old G910 and it is getting hard to use
The corsair k70 has been good to me. Think mine is 8 years old now and I have had one stuck key that I was able to fix myself with some iso and wd40
I don't know what the modern incarnation is called, but pretty sure they have a 10keyless version
Now correct me if I’m wrong. But I don’t think that this should EVER be reading 0% on my CPU
i want a 10 key my issue is missed inputs
part of the issue I know is the dumb RGB first switches
was thinking of getting the carbon
but will look into the corsair
10 Keyless or a full size?
keychron has many options, as far as I kow all worth their prices!
have a 100% hotswappable my own. only thing I regret is not choosing the open source firmware version and the fact that I chose the wrong keycap layout because I was stupid xD
kept it tho ^^
BeQuiet also has very cool keyboards
https://www.bequiet.com/en/keyboards
Just came across this in my Newsfeed maybe 65% keyboards are also an option
https://www.computerbase.de/news/tastaturen/keychron-q0-he-qmk-wireless-luxus-nummernblock-ruestet-schmale-tastaturen-nach.95886/
Full
Aye
your tasts are more expencive than mine
thanks for pointing me to keycron thinking of either
Keychron C2 Pro 8K QMK
Keychron K5 QMK Wireless Mk2
I have 192GB CU-DIMM in my system and play Star Citizen solely off RAM.
Lets talk about expensive taste🤣
what do you mean wrong layout
They have the european Layout (tall enter key, wide rshift etc) ion the K10 Max in a shared ES/FR and Norwegian or something.
I took the wrong one which didn't include the german layout caps but you can easily adjust the mapping via their browser based software and I don't really need the legend
Really like their keycaps and the colors, I chose the ABS double-shot ones with banana switches and will probably get a handful of mint-green ones from them (more clicky feeling but still pretty quiet)
how powerful is their macro software?
that and how easy are they to keep clean
the 2 I am looking the most at do not have a recess for the keys
You can try the "keychron launcher" without a keybord on the web
And depends wether you wanna get the QMK or the regular.
QMK is open source so you can pretty much do whatever you want haha
What do you mean with recess specifically?
Like do the keys sit off 5mm in their resting position?
So far mine was pretty easy to clean, even the sugary cocktail I spilled on it on day two
Tho I immediately took all switches out and wiped everything off
Tho I immediately took all switches out and wiped everything off
both are this style one is slim though
looks good but the demo is for one of the top of the line key bords
I was looking for multy input similar to what the steam deck has
(double tap has macro type stuff) looks to be on par/better than curent software that i use
man typing is getting hard
That should be possible
Just trying to decided if I want the $100 or the $50 the 100 is slim with interchangeable switches i will stick with stock key caps for the time unless there i a major reason to get abs from the getgo
I recommend the ABS since the non-ABS is non-translucent
And hotswap switches is also pretty great
But 50% is a big difference
The 100 is a low profile keyboard I'll see if I can find a normal one with that design and normal hot swap switches
those are the ones i am looking at
I like the design of the latter 2 more but the price/features on the first one is better
You like more flatter keys?
More i like the flat bace plate that will make it harder for crap to collect
The middle one has full sized keys but the switches are not in a recess
The top case can trap debris and make it hard to clean
That and I like the asthetic but the top one is the better buy atm
i think any of those are a good choice and the actual long term acceptance of the kb comes down to user preference
Intel Panther Lake is finally here—Intel Core Ultra 300 gets a massive iGPU upgrade.
I tested the Core Ultra X9 388H + Arc B390 iGPU in real benchmarks and real games (including Cyberpunk). In this hands-on performance test, I’m putting Intel’s new Panther Lake (Core Ultra 300) through weeks of benchmarks, creator tests, AI workloads, and ...

In a post I lost, Intel even said that Strix Halo isn't a competition.
Yea I saw that
Strix halo gets 5 FPS more in cyberpunk with RT on
Strix halo is probs as fast or faster than the steam machine
So it's quite possible we see a mini pc pulling less power than the steam machine and being faster in anything raytraced due to Xe3 having better RT performance than RDNA 3.5 and the steam machine only being RDNA3
Till you lower the wattage and Intel crushes Strix Halo
Yea
It's actually insane how close it gets to Strix halo at like 70w
When Strix halo is at 120
Intel good again? Yippee
Hopefully desktop next gen is as interesting
Nova lake end of this year apparently
hopefully Memory is interestingly affordable next gen because if not everything else has no purpose
I find it amazing, especially for laptops.
People don't believe Intel can be on-par with AMD.
They still cling onto the 14th gen idea.
How
Arrow lake was nothing like 14th gen
Zen 3 4 and 5 have more in common with eachother than 14th and 15th gen intel do
Because "AMD is more efficient and faster in games".
That's not an idea
And "Intel CPUs keep dying"
Yea that's not intel clinging to an idea though
People just picking favourites.
They don't like the idea of an Intel CPU beating their AMD chip
To be fair - that image was valid for a LONG time
Listen the steam machine doa
The steam machine gpu is likely to be on par with the RX6600 desktop
Which the panther lake chip is pretty much exactly on par with too
This is at 60w total chip power too
We know there's a system with an 80w tdp so it's capable of even more
Just found this:
https://wiki.debian.org/CrossGrading
this is SO crazy that it's even remotely possible
Theoretically it lets you transform an existing raspberry pi debian for arm64 to an amd64 one!
It's obvisouly unreliable because linux is so open about usermade adjustments but there's even an executable designed to help with it
@jade scaffold
Intel is gonna crush AMD
https://www.techpowerup.com/345642/amd-to-use-rdna-3-5-igpu-until-2029-rdna-5-only-on-premium-skus
AMD's RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics is poised to become one of the company's longest-running iGPUs. A slide generated by AI and shared on the Chinese Weibo forums by Golden Pig Upgrade suggests that AMD plans to use RDNA 3.5 until 2029, making it one of the most enduring versions of RDNA GPUs. Althou...
Aka they surpassed AMD
AMD's gonna pull another Vega or another Pile-driver/Bulldozer/Excavator
AMD pulling an intel and stagnating
No it makes sense 🤔
Low-end mobile doesn't need any better graphics right now and if they can allocate it to the top end - why not?
Tho Intel is currently on a good high, I admin ^^ Might actually consider an intel laptop.
Probably framework tbh so there's to hopin'
Wdym allocate to the top end
Not how that works
AMDs laptop chips are in dire need of redesign
They have been for 3 generations now
Handhelds also use RDNA 3.5
Also, their chips last on average 6 to 8 hours on battery, Intel can last almost 24 hours.
27 hours of yt video playback
On a 70wh battery
You'd be lucky to even get 9 on AMDs mobile chips
Then getting beat 50-100% in raw performance is just kinda embarrassing literally their 2.5th generation of GPUs, you now have a chip that could be had in a $700 mini pc that's competing with your chip that's found at its cheapest in $1200 pcs and that's literally not what they were even trying to do
This is also gonna embarrass the steam machine real bad
The RX6600 desktop GPU which the B390 IGPU is matching exactly in performance. Is pretty much the exact performance level expected from the steam machine
Can you imagine there was a time where AMD got double the battery life of Intel and now Intel has 7 times the battery life
If the binning is good, it's better to sell more top end than to stun good bins and put them into the low end.
Of course, depending on the total supply, the price should be lower as well then
That's not how that works
At all
It's a monolith
It's not a chiplet apu it's monolithic
The top end is getting it's ass kicked by 50-100%
Apus aren't made from a reject desktop chip glued to a CPU
Speaking of which:
Work is offering a new work laptop at around 1600€ Germany.
Suggestions?
Already looking at the following:

Yeah I'm aware. They still have different tiers of APUs tho, don't they?
No
Not past the hx370 not that are useable in laptops
*might need to fix the links hang on
Which is what's loosing to the new intel APUs by 50-100%
The only higher end is strix halo which is so expensive and so power hungry doing literally nothing that it is not a suitable laptop chip and even then despite at its absolute cheapest for a desktop mobo with no other hardware 1.2k is getting pushed by the 60w intel chip while consuming double that power
okay so given your information and 1600€, what laptop would you choose for development work?
I got nothing against a dGPU except the higher power draw 🤔
fixed the links
Look for something with panther lake in it
The IGPU matches the desktop RTX 2060 super and RX6600
At like 60w of power consumption none the less
And the only chip that outperforms it in multi threaded on laptop is strix halo which has no devices and borders entirely unusable in laptop form
according to this List, there's an entirety of 3 Laptops available as of now
https://www.ultrabookreview.com/74624-intel-panther-lake-laptops/
and in germany thats a grand total of zero haha
I could preorder but the price is 200€ too high as well...
so I think going last/current gen is my best bet anyways
MSI has shitty hinges and questionable build quality.
Be aware of that.
allright, will keep in mind, thanks!
I'll see if I can postpone the upgrade a couple weeks 🤔
I doubt I will get much more performance for the same price once the new ones come out
that list is fairly good btw, good comparison, includes benchmarks and pretty much every model announced
Thanks to ASUS for sponsoring this video! You can check out the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra at: https://lmg.gg/wMSQe
This ASUS ExpertBook Ultra has everything you could possible need. An all new Intel Core Ultra 3 series processor, a tandem OLED screen, and wicked battery life all in a sleek lil laptop.
Want us to unbox something? Make a suggestion ...
More are releasing the chips only launched yesterday
ohh lol alright, I will def try to postpone
love that XPS17 I currently have, tho it's faulty trackpad and horrible battery life (not to spead of the driver support) has made my boss tell me to accept its EOL haha
(he doesn't know this is the laptop I use at home)
is that a surface book
I have the 15", but it's nearing EoL as the battery drains itself and it's slow as balls.
So, I've been delving back into modding again, specifically my 1500+ mod list for Skyrim. I have been creating custom patches and some scripts to run and such for my extensive list and I came across a mod that allows for in game editing of idle markers, objects, navmeshes, occusions, and you can save it and you are done. All, in, game. Tested it moving idle markers to better match my setup. It works. No more having to go into the Creation Kit or Xedit and manually make a patch.
my K5 just arrived man it is a lot quieter and smaller than my old keyboard despite being full sized now I just need to get used to it. and program in my desired macros
so far so good honestly just enjoying that I can touch type again and not have to repress keys nonstop
amd... why do you not want to admit this cpu exists?
windows decided overnight that it didnt like the gpu drivers, so wasnt going to use them or enable the gpu
which i noticed after plugging in an hdmi cable and... nothing. and win+p said "you aint got no gpu mate"
Cursed CPU model
Basically a slightly lower clocked 3500u. Annoyingly the mobile apus are a generation behind for the model number (3000 mobile is zen+ not zen2). Why amd gotta be silly with their numbers...
I sometimes wonder if it's possible to swap in a newer better chip, though in this case the power delivery and thermals would be suspect
its all over the place
5000 apus are 5000 generation
mostly
the 5000 stuff was its own thing am thinking of the 4000 chips
7000 are too 8000 are just upgraded 7000 then 300 is kinda 9000 ig
AMDs apu naming is real bad
then again intels mobile/ulp part naming is schizophrenic
if you arent careful you could get them confused with sony headphones
Eh, ever heard of the Ryzen 9 270 or the Ryzen AI Max HX395+?
Just to make it very confusing
At least Intel doesn't call everything AI like AMD.
Intel has Intel 3, 5, 7 and Ultra 5, 7, 9 where the 1st number in that line is the generation.
Not like AMD where you have for example the 8840H, which is the 4th generation 🙄
their newer ones are fine
frankly amds newer ones are fine it just didnt make sense for them to swap to the 3 number system intel is now using
though i dont get with intel why 265 for the core U7s and not 270
the refresh parts are named like 270 so not really sure why even bother with the 265
Eh, U9-285 series?
I think they use the x45, x65, x85 currently as 1st generation and x50, x70, x90 as refresh or the absolute top end🤔
the 90 seems to be used for like the refresh parts now
like they do the xx5 then do the xx0 as the refresh
honestly intels naming refresh would have been perfect if they just did for example Core U7 170/270/370 then for refreshes do like 270+ or even 275 could work
At least their top end desktop is called U9-285K and their laptop U9-285HX.
Unlike AMD which calls their top end chips completely different between laptop and desktop
Like AMD's top end laptop chip is the R9 AI HX470 or the R9 270
i fucking hate the HX470 with a passion honestly
I hate amds laptop chips generally, like i beg fix your io good god
I hate they keep using RDNA 3.5 for multiple generations
the GPU architecture isnt even the issue its the IO the goddamned IO
RDNA 3.5 isnt the worst choice but RDNA 4 would have been nice
the steam machine using RDNA 3.5 or RDNA 4 would have been real nice but alass its using RDNA 3 and is likely going to struggle to keep up with intels B390 IGPU
So far we know, RDNA 3 or 3.5, the GPU is on the specsheet comparable to the RX 7600m 8GB.
Which is an RDNA 3
The B390 at least can use machine learning for XeSS, the Steam Machine won't probably be able to use FSR4
To be honest, I am getting tired of AMD's behaviour lately.
At this rate Intel will surpass them at an astonishing speed.
Heck, they already have with efficiency
they yoyo
We know it's rDNA 3
It's literally a 7600m
That's not an opinion that's what it is
The only thing semi custom about it is it's such a phenomenally shit bin to get 50mhz over the normal 7600m it needs like 30w more power
The 7600m is comparable to the desktop Rx 6600 which the b390 also is at 60w never mind that it can be run higher than that
So, I've put 400 hours into my new 4th gen Tandem WOLED monitor and like a lot of people I have the grey vertical banding. Most of the time its not noticeable except in low light scenerios in game. So, nightime. But it looks bad.
On a guess I lowered the refresh rate from its 280hz to 240hz. Immediately on a greyscale test it looked way better. I didn't realize refresh rates can make vertical banding worse/better.
Apparently do pixel cleaning.
Also, I am curious, where did you get a 4th gen Tandem-WOLED when the LG G5 TV is pretty much the 1st generation Four-Stack Tandem-WOLED
Pixel cleaning automatically happens after 4 hours of use. I've also done it manually. Directions from LG say to immediately start a pixel cleaning after the panel has warmed up. And that helped but still had very noticable banding.
Ran across a comment on reddit that said to drop the refresh rate as the 280hz is actually an overclock. As soon as I dropped it to 240hz the banding drastically dropped.
Monitor is a LG 27GX700A-B, their 4th gen WOLED panel, that uses their new Tandem technology. So 4th gen WOLED, with 1st gen tandem tech. Cause, everything in the monitor world has to be confusing.
im not sure my laptop can handle these temperatures https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/895146903640084611/1471069358867611649/image.png?ex=698d979a&is=698c461a&hm=3f5acde77e21c8981d9671a1c13633a8ae7cb3397564dd4d6c82a47fe306406f&
Eh, it's somewhere between the core and photosphere of Sol.
The comma is outside the USA meant for anything that isn't a whole number.
We more likely have use a dot to make it easier to read.
But yes, I read it as 430K Celcius
We use comma as thousands separator here, and period as decimal separator. I just read/parsed it wrong
Intel's next gen dual conpute die nova lakes might have a max tdp of 700w
700w, that's ofcoarse full load, not the minimum we do, even on a 285k, loading all P-cores barely hit 125w.
Yea but this thing has like 16 p cores 32 e cores and 4 lpe cores which is 52 cores
I know, but when do you use all cores at the exact same time at full power?
I mean if you are rendering yea
At least your performance won't be limited till it reaches 700w😅
700w is alot though
550w I could see quite easily 700w night just be for shits and giggles
Like the arrow lake chips did what 260-270 full tilt
And nova lake is double that core count wise
I think some of the threadrippers could pull that much if you encouraged/let them. but big die with lots of heatspreader
My U9-285K never surpassed 220w, even though it can do 250w easily.
Through daily operations it's closer to 80w or less.
might need high avx workloads to hit the power limit
I do wonder how the heat output will be as well, the U9-285K stays rather cool, even at 200w.
Yea they can do well over 1kw
Tbh Intel's chips are pretty big these days
Though chip size is more determined by Io
Have you seen the PCB on that thing
It's an abomination
Like oh my god fucking chill dude
ya got any more of them power phases?
I love it
The reason to buy this 1 over the rest, extra 12VHWR
288MB cache, that's not nothing
we're now at the point where we have double the L1 cache in consumer desktop CPUs than "640K ought to be enough for anybody", its kinda wild

wow
ohh yeah that actually sounds horrifying but I meant why is it so clickbaity :o
kinda looks like some part of a hard drive sled but your requests are always so vague 😂
anyone got any news on panther lake laptops being released? c:
Everyone has one at this point not quite sure who's are and arent out
Dells XPS are out but they have quite the lead time on them ATM
I was wondering why my computer was so slow all of a sudden. Apparently windows decided to put a page file on my mechanical hard drive for some reason, despite the fact that I have 64gb of ram that was not maxed out.
recently had a customer complain about "sluggish pc"
only has an SSD, (not a good one tho) and a good chunk of memory to spare.
after disabling pagefile, the perceived performance rapidly climbed and the ssd isn't "maxxed out" at 20MB/s writes anymore.
we might be onto some microsoft shenanigans here...
seems like some update might make windows over-use the page file(s)
thanks for the hint - still shopping for a work machine.
will proto scour a major german laptop retailer bjt they don't ave a good way to filter by processor gen :/
hmm, they already explicitly list one from asus as "panther lake" but the price tag is nearly double the budget xD
https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/asus+zenbook+duo+ux8407aa+sn106w+909213
hmm I could preorder this one 🤔

this was one of the recommendable procesors, right?
https://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/products/sku/245722/intel-core-ultra-7-processor-355-12m-cache-up-to-4-70-ghz/specifications.html
you want one of the ones with X after the core ultra
so Core Ultra 7X for example
the ones with the X on the end have the big igpu
Its a direct quote from the CEO in the title. Also it now looks like Seagate has said the same thing.
thats a great question. whats it from? how big is it? can you provide any information other than this contextless image?
Oof, I think the internet is having issues. Youtube is having major problems. Wonder what DNS service has shit the bed again. Downdetector is showing a spike with Cloudflare and AWS issues.
oof
Cloudflare, AWS, and Google all showing major spikes. Whoops somebody broke the dns again.
I figured it was something on my end at first for Youtube. Checking my extensions and my Pihole setup, but nope. Not me this time.
Pretty much what my vendors told me at the start of the year
Yeah, that makes sense. WD CEO in the article I linked is saying not until late 2027 could it stabilize. And was reading another Wfcctech article that quoted people saying Dram and Nand more than likely will be in shortage until 2030.
Which is just great....
Yep, purchased what I could last month to stave off EOL for as long as possible but it's going to be rough for small tech businesses for a while now
I'm expecting to see a larger shift towards cloud usage overall to compensate
I'm worried about the smaller companies and system interrogators. I foresee bankruptcies this year.
Phones, laptops, tablets are all going to be sold with 8gb of ram as standard and be more expensive.
Ahh crap... those are probably WAY outside of the budget...
there's no "Ultra 5X", is there?
https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/msi+prestige+16+ai+c3mg+071+910726
seems my previous lkink is broken
this is the laptop I'm looking at,
right on budget and with a Core Ultra 7 355
There was a laptop with the 7x which was gonna be 1.4k but I don't remember which it was
Or do you mean this one?
Doesn't have an X in the name but has an Arc GPU
If the choice should fall between an AMD APU Laptop and a panther lake with "Intel Graphics™️", which would you pick?
Yea b370
Sadly the 338H only appears once in this listicle, sadly not in the "Laptops with panther lake" enumaration :/
guessing that will come only later...
There are already public ES test results for the chip, so that means it must be on some hardware already but nothing "announced" yet :((((

intriguing
tho kinda want your opinion on this - just in case
Personally, the Intel Ultra X7 and X9 look very very promising.
More than AMD's line-up currently.
So I am leaning towards an X7 or X9
Yeah I know but that was not the question.
Given the budget I'm rather looking at an Ultra 5 NON X, which is why I asked which you'd pick.
I trust your decision on this topic
The 338H would be fine but it's not available yet.
So the choice might come down to "panther lake non Arc GPU" or ryzen APU
Honestly I'd wait for that 10 Xe3 core chip to become more widely available
What actually is your budget
Ultra 5 is a very good CPU, I believe 6P+8E if I am correct.
Although I don't know on laptop.
But they're very capable.
Even the E cores are pretty powerful and are used like 80% of the normal tasks from my experience.
1600€ GER +-150
I apologise, half the time I am as baffled as anyone else xD
It is a server 5.25" slider but it has hooks on. I can not find it anywhere.
That’s because it’s considered to be a part of the chassis. If you want a spare I think your best bet is going to be to find another one to salvage
If you are lucky, I already seen X7 for that price
Picked up a new ip kvm. GL-RM10 Comet Pro. Expensive ($172 usd). But native 4k output with speaker pass through. So far, its pretty good.
Its also has remote cloud access, if I want to set it up. Which, I don't. I just need it to access my Linux pc running my LLMs. Also means once I get the correct hdmi cable I can move my Jet KVM over to my Raspberry Pi 5 that hosts my Pihole.
Also has its own wifi 6 antenna so you don't need a hardline if you want. I opted for a hardline since its sitting on my server rack.
will keep an eye out!
I am having fun/s
Odds are it is one of the older dins at least it is ddr4
Oh no, especially in the time we have today.
I hope that won't happen to my RAM
I have 192GB CU-DIMM RAM, that would cost me like 8K in today's money
Mine is ddr4 so...
Ddr4 prices are also going up :/
Because back in the day that set cost me 800.- plus it can clock to 8200 MT/s with 4 sticks.
Also, CU-DIMM is slightly more stable than normal DIMM and it doesnt cost me the price of ECC UDIMM
ouch
https://www.techpowerup.com/346624/amd-seemingly-stops-driver-updates-for-ryzen-z1-extreme-processor
AMD has reportedly stopped driver updates for its Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU solution for handheld consoles, according to the latest Lenovo Korea update. This means that only after 2 and a half years, AMD is pulling support for its SoC, leaving many enthusiasts in a difficult spot. Confirmation from multi...
Intel is gonna surpass AMD faster than people would love to admit at this rate
Even Videocardz.com stepped on it
https://videocardz.com/newz/lenovo-korea-reportedly-ends-driver-updates-for-legion-go-based-on-ryzen-z1-extreme
yeaaa amd need to be better than they are being
They aren't, their 9070XT, 9060XT and 8060S were amazing, they strike with that and probably think nobody can beat them with somewhat budget friendly GPUs.
Except Intel is now striking back with 200%.
Their XeSS 3 is compatible on all their ARC A and B series of GPUs which means more than 100, probably 200+ games.
And AMD can barely secure 10 games people want to play for FSR4.
AMD has been very disappointing lately and I can't fathom that AMD isn't doing anything against it.
How much I want to like AMD for how they behaved in the past, I feel that's completely gone now.
hell the 8060s
isnt even that impressive
it leads the B390 by 30% best case scenario
and it has masssively worse Upscaling
FSR3 vs XeSS 3 when that releases😅
That's when the B390 will surpass the 8060S, because then the B390 will be able to use Framegen up to 4x.
not even just that
XESS 3 gets better quality going from 1080p-4k than FSR3 gets going 1440p-4k
Massive advantage of XeSS is that it can use AI or machine learning for pixel reconstruction like DLSS.
FSR3 which AMD thinks is okay for the coming 4 years uses non of that.
what is really funny to me atm is valves steam machine
that gpu looses to the B390 IGPU
it has worse upscaling too so you could use a lower resolution to upscale from still end up with better quality and end up with vastly better performance
at like 60w i feel like i have to add too
Oh no, Steam Machine dead on arrival?
pretty much
which is like exactly what i said it would be
its barely passable for current AAA titles
like indiana jones and the great circle it cant even do 1080p 60fps
keep in mind its a consol made for tvs so it has to upscale ro 4k which does have a slight performance cost in of itself
Well I've potentially got a fun problem with my laptop.. I might need to disable the touchpad. All while it is thinking there is a mouse click every half second to two seconds or so
oh weird is the mouse pad replaceable for your particular laptop i know some laptops are?
It under the battery, which I didn't unscrew to check. I pulled it apart to check that the battery wasn't swelling and to hopefully reduce any tension that there might be in the frame. Haven't fired it up since putting it back together. It did have several loose screws though, and the one post I had glued back down had broken free (so two screw posts not functional)
well it seemed fine when I fired it back up. but just to be sure I toggled the setting that disables the touchpad when a mouse is connected
it had been getting weird anyway. thinking it was being touched when it wasnt, so things like dragging down with one finger would be seen as a scroll, or trying a two finger drag would minimize everything
Are there any nice looking server cases gonna be moving pretty much all my stuff into server racks and would like to have some that look fancy
Alternatively are there any that have an easy to swap out face plate
So I can just make my own fancy face for them
I think the 4u chassis Linus uses has a fairly replacable face plate you coulld get designed
However his might be custom already
You'll certainly find answers on LTT forum.
Without knowing any of your preferences / previous builds I don't know what you might find "nice looking" tho
Some people like utilitarian builds, some steam-punky where there's extra bits and bops that look functional
Maybe you like minimalistic RGB?
have you seen the ubiquiti products i kinda like their vibe very clean look or apple products see apples 2019 mac pro and mac pro rack mounted case
like if something has a customisable face plate i have access to CNC big machines that i could absolutly make my own face plate for things
Budget?
Looks lilke "expensive taste"
Ubiquiti is pretty expensive, especially their Dream Machines and Pro products 😅
This is one of the few I found hardly appealing... it's seemingly not done often...
Best route would probably be to DIY the front plate entirely ._.
https://www.caseking.de/inter-tech-ipc-4u-4129-l-4he-rack-servergehaeuse-schwarz/GEIT-017.html?srsltid=AfmBOopXsC6dhWSirdRBMA-gjv3ltob1IzCOVKAzkNYnR00F2MUz4FzfN0g
but i think ill put a propper pc in one and a 4U or over would probs be good for that
Maybe this one?
https://www.amazon.de/SilverStone-Technology-Rackmount-Server-Kensington-SST-RM42-502B/dp/B08F2C23D8
i'd need more air than that tbh there are ones ive seen that do have full tripple 140mm support on the front which would be ideal just for airflows sakes on the big pc one, my servers only need to be 2u and then i can put some drives in the front of them
Ohh so you do need some usability, not just a desktop case layed on its side with handles and rack mounts haha
yea need one for my Game server for my PC for the NAS maybe another to throw what ever the fuck into might do a low speed NAS in addition to the NVME NAS
Bruuhhh
Biggest contradiction of the century
It's like selling a car without engine
It's like walking into a Honda dealership and being sold a Peterbilt
If I get the Honda prices I won’t complain
Well....
Yeah, you wouldn’t either
There are rumors that the Chinese come to rescue?
Afaik those rumors have already been busted cuz guess what:
they also want AI garbage :/
Man, never thought I'd see the day Nvidia actually pulls a gpu driver instead of pushing out an immediate hotfix. Driver v595.59 has been causing fans to stop working, overheating, system freezes, black screens and a whole bunch of other issues.
ohh yeah thats a REVERT issue, not a fix issue
chance is - some people have it installed and don't notice
wondering wether they have a "trigger rollback" or "trigger immediate" update feature for specific driver versions
Ohh I'm on the new start menu...
Not sure how their auto-categorization works but it has an error rate of like 10% so far...
For like... not even indie stuff...
Once Home Assistant Desktop is classified as "other", once as "Productivity"
and if GTA counts as "dev tools", ill be stoked to play it at work haha
Soooooooooooooo....
Lot of y'all are fairly tech savvi...
Just upgraded my MOBO, CPU, and RAM...
Aaand now my microsoft Gaming App (xbox game stuff) breaks every time I try to launch a game and it murders my Task manager so bad it can't even close at the same time. Any thoughts?
I would reinstall Windows if it did that to me.
But question, do you need Gambar or not?
If not you can disable it in the Windows Settings menu.
I have a lot of games through that app. So far everyhting on Steam seems to be working fine, but like, anythign I've tried through the Xbox app has just...it's bad, lol
Best way to do a windows re-install without having to say, go through all the BS of keeping OneDrive from stealign everyhting?
Gamebar is a separate entity from the Xbox App though.
For example I have Gamebar disabled and still play my Xbox games
...though on that note I switched from a MAG 560 to a Gigabyte 650. COuld there be some issues that's causing?
Oh. Thought Xbox App was part of Gamebar
Please place the letter in front of the number, it's important.
Nope
Hm
Gamebar is just some funky overlay app that says it'll increase performance when it doesn't.
Was the B550 and I went to the B650M
Been googlign and testing things for about the last 2 hours lol
So new CPU and new Chipset.
If you use your old Windows make sure to uninstall old Chipset drivers and install the new ones.
You do need Chipset drivers or else the system works like ass.
I was leanign towards that but wasn't certain on the best way to uninstall
See 5 years ago I just googled this stuff and I found my answers pretty quick. I don't suppose you happen to be A Keeper of That Sacred Knowledge?
I went from B550(AMD 5800X3D) to Z890(Intel U9-285K).
I did at least stay with Ryzen, went from the 5 5600x to the 7 7800x3d
I did it for stability reasons 😅
But what do you want to know?
Because I have no idea how to uninstall it.
And the Chipset drivers are decently easy to get depending on the motherboard brand.
So the only information I've been able to dig up so far is that I should update the BIOS to the most recent (need to pick up a friggin' thumb drive, apparently, so I can load that on. My usual Thumb Drive poofed on me). Is that what you meant by CHipset Drivers? And most other posts recommend doing a windows re-install as well.
But what motherboard do you have?
The GIgabyte B650M wifi gaming
If its Gigabyte you can use their own Gigabyte Control Center and later throw it away.
Just make sure not to install Norton 😅
Specifically: GIGABYTE B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI AM5
Seee, that's another issue I'm having. The GCC isn't really telling me anything of value. Just...hm
Uuuh now it's showing me stuff
...oh ffs, my SNip TOol shortcut broke again...now I need to figure out how I fixed that before...
Can I just use this?
Make sure you deselect Norton from the Driver and Software, and yes you do probably need that BIOS firmware.
Probably to prevent AMD CPUs from blowing up'
Fair. What was that about Norton, though?
GCC kinda tries to install Norton if you don't deselect it
Do the motherboard BIOS 1st, then we look through the rest
Kay, back eventualy!
...
hm
Said it needed to restart and now the thing tells me there's no updates.
And didn't restart. Guess I'll restart?
Okay restarted, still said it needed the update, then it just did the same thing, restarted the app and 'no updates'
...huh, that time everything locked up and it restarted
But still says it needs to install.
-w- I swear, I must be like an untrained wizard or something at this rate because weird computer stuff just always happens to me. I even get bugs in games nobody else ever seems to have.
though the computer is restartign in like 1/10th the time it did an hour ago
Nope, it's just some finicky Windows stuff.
Plus GCC can install everything in 1 go if it wants to.
Well to this point all it's done is reboot the program
Anywho, nearly 2am for me, so I'll be passing out to look with a fresh lense in the morning. THanks fo tthe assist so far!
Anytime and sleep well
Alright, Morning Messign around: Steam games tha trun on Unreal break as well.
Aaand stardew valley.
Black Mesa launches
Maybe it's time to try a WIndows Reinstall then
How is your GPU and CPU connected?
plugged in via the PCIE?
Standard slot in
Like, TTS launches and runs perfectly, so does a few other games
Black Mesa launched perfect, Palworld broke, Robocop broke, Planet Crafter broke, Rimworld works...it's an interesting issue. Once I find out if my game works, will do a window sreinstall and see what happens
I would reinstall Windows at this point
It sounds like something in Windows broke and that causes issues
Yup, pretty sure of that as well
You probably need to log out and log back in because the credentials were encrypted by a key stored in the replaced hardware
Try re-authenticating via:
- windows settings > accounts
- Microsoft store
- Xbox Game Bar
Steam games are also affected, but alright
It might also help if you reset the xbox app here
Ohh hang on what I might have skipped something furhter down
Wait a sec
Where are those settings, lol?
This is in german but it should translate to:
Accounts > Your Accounts
Amusingly: I tried to Repair it and:
And here make sure to select the point "App Settings", not just "Settings".
Might need to expand
But for sure:
Most of the issues should be fixed after installing the chipset drivers and BIOS update
I feel like I'm missing somethign or my version displays thigns differently than yours
Well, if repair isn't working it might need a reset
Looks like you're still on windows 10?
Nope, 11
Huh.
the stuff thats on mine is just
"Stop the app"
"Repair"
"Reset"
"Uninstall"
So not sure what you mean?
Hmm, I also haeve those...
Okaay, after doing an AMD update and clean install, thigns are launchign again. Testign game,s FF14 is choppy as all heck
Planet Crafter as well
odd... can you verify that your hardware isn't thermal throttling or running at the sppeds it should be running at?
have you enabled expo?
I know not of these spells you speak
Not crashing half my system though, so, improvement!
Hmm, Quarentine zone still seems broken
And the Gigabyte control center still won't work right.
Oop, there we go, Quarentine zone brok the task manager and itself
Only other thing I can think of to do now is a windows reinstall.
HMmm, yup, ran out of things to do to make things work. Anyone have any final ideas and recommendations on the best way to redo windows to see if that fixes it?
...
Hm.
SOmethign very simple might have been the issue it seems, though now I have another mystery.
Seems a big part of the issue waaaaaaaaaaaas....
My monitors were plugged into the MOBO and not the GPU
That sadi I had to do all the other stuff anyway lol
using HWInfo or similar programs to verify the following:
- CPU and GPU temp < 85°C
- Looking at CPU Clock speeds over time in the graph view - sudden short declines speak for "throttling" and would account for the stuttering you're experiencing. Depending on the sensors present, choose "Maximum clock speed", "Average Speed", etc
- If present, see whether Throttling sensors (Current Throttling, Thermal Throttling" in the CPU and Motherboard sub-tree are turning on
ohh absolutely, bruh...
One of the classic plunders, infact so classic that nobody remote thinks of it :P
Anyone have any experience building a tokenizer? I have to build one for a class of mine and wanted to see if anyone had any insight/tips
You're talking about AI input analyzer, right?
The thing that bills you based on your usage
When you're done, feel free to tell us any tips about circumventing one :P
I have to make a programming language for one of my classes this semester, we are building a language on top of java and need to tokenize it ourselves along with create a lexical analysis etc
ahhhh so you will build the system that turns your words / commands into syntactical instructions? a part of a compiler?
i think i had a class that struck that topic orthogonally
maybe this is also slightly relevant (tho steep introduction)

That sounds right, the class just got reworked it's all new curriculm without a TA, i'll take a look at that
be not afraid of the syntax in this vid, the methodology seems highly relevant for your thing.
If you had a higher calculus course it should be fine
TODAY in the Saga of Tiber's WTF DID HE DO!
the joy of....
LoadLibrary failed with error 87: The Parameter is incorrect.
Been doign that since I moved my plugs from MOBO to GPU, stops at least one game from launching, too. And also I get a whole bunch of those little pop ups
Much have I been googling. Naught has helped. And can't rename the silly atig6pxx.dll file (Of which there are TWO.)
Always love when my computer tells me I don't have permission to do a thing, yup.
Well, thats a new error I've never seen. Upon the PC botting up my main display was in the wrong resolution while my 2nd monitor was fine. Opened up display settings and display 1 was listed as NV Failsafe 1 with no option to do anything with it. Rebooted PC and the display worked fine.
Oh yeah. I’ve seen that maybe once every two or three years
Always makes for a fun moment of panic
So apparently if my laptop freezes in the middle of a YouTube video... It just keeps playing it (well I get the sound, none of the rest of the laptop responds)
And it went longer than the typical few seconds of an audio buffer emptying
Ooooh it eventually bluescreened with "driver power state failure"
I think usually I hard power cycle when it freezes, so hadn't seen the eventual bluescreen (it took a few minutes)
I do love that the bluescreen no longer provides the stop codes. Really makes it useful /s
Been trying to set up vlans on a new switch for months, nothing worked, kept shutting me out or simply not working when trying to reach the internet.
Turns out my routor is crap and does not understand vlans
Months!
Actually the new black screens provide more meaningful / useful stop codes.
However they don't provide sad smiley on blue background anymore :(
In other news:
Fuck my life..
In the process of moving my PC one room, it seems to have developed an OS agnostic "CACHE HIERARCHY ISSUE" (whatever that really means)
It seems to be less frequent without DOCP enabled but present with AB, A, B memory sticks installed :(
Here's to hoping that a CPU reseat will fix it...
On windows it causes freezes with WHEA event viewer entries, on Linux it hard reboots the system with a message on next boot
I am baffled that AMD still has no MFG, and I have it 4X on my 285K
I managed to fix it (eventually), the final step apepared to be:
Download the AMD CLeanup Tool, run that, remove all my AMD Drivers, and then reinstall
Still dunno why the system would not let me rename the file, which is the initial recommended fix.
Turns out the issue is caused by the specific file atig6pxx.dll being corrupted or somehow damaged.
Today's Google was more helpful than Last Week's google.
ITS THE MOTHERBOARD (thank god)
I’m considering buying a pc:
are these good? I mean i understand their basic functions but i don’t know how to bench mark them as a package
CPU:
AMD R7 5700
Graphics:
AMD Radeon 7600
RAM:
32GB DDR4 3200MHZ Non-RGB
For $50 more i could get the Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 8GB instead
Whether or not that is good really depends on the price.
Its quite an old system, but is still perfectly usable.
For 50$ extra the 5060ti is definitely worth it though.
Also 32gb of ram in this day and age is amazing
Its 1300 for the whole pc (the one that has the 5060h
But theres also a discount of 100 in that store rn
Ok, parted it out, its about the same as if you were to build it yourself, but you would most likely get better parts if you were to do that.
Im not really trying to spend more than 1500 because i’d be buying a monitor and keyboard. I also don’t know anything about building
Building a PC is very straight forward, and if you have any odd issues the group here is typically fairly quick to help diagnose them.
Where did you price out the parts? New egg?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 5700, GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, NZXT H5 Flow (2024) ATX Mid Tower
Dropped down to 16gb of ram to save ~70$s
Haven't built a PC in awhile so I am not 100% that this is the best you can eek out at that budget, but the componentry should be sinificantly better and with more upgrade options.
That depends on a lot of factors. Simply put though, the cooler I have in my list is a fair bit more beefy then the one that is going to ship with the prebuilt
You can also look at cases and see if there is one that you prefer the looks at.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nBFCmG/phanteks-eclipse-g370a-atx-mid-tower-case-ph-ec370a_dbk01
This one is pretty good value. Not as nice, but its the same chasis as what I have my current rig in.
@sacred seal i got a build like this for around the same price, i think its a bit better (maybe?) but only thing i wouldn’t know how to check is the disclaimer about ram clearance
In the future you can just send this link

well if its any help now… (i completely missed it lol)
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Radeon RX 9060 XT, Phanteks XT PRO ATX Mid Tower
Thanks, thats a lot easier to compare against
That is a decidedly more modern platform, but whether or not you see much of a difference for the extra $150 you are spending on your core platform is going to really depend on what exactly you are doing. On the upside, you do get better upgradability.
While you could definitely go with a lighter PSU, I would not advise going all the way down to a 650 watt. A good quality PSUs can last several upgrade cycles. What you have in your build is what we call a chineese special. It may be fine, or it may start on fire.
To be honest, it's stupid that DDR isn't backwards compatible.
I had to pull an 650 watt PSU out of my system last year because certain games would cause my GPU to draw too much power and trip the fuse
Is a 850 sufficient?
There is sufficent, and there is "future proof". An 850 watt will let you upgrade to pretty well any modern hardware. A 750 is going to be more limiting
I would not get a PSU that isn't on the Cybenetics list
The Sama PSU in your list is probably as good as a cheap no-name brand
I switched it out for the Corsair RM850x (2024) 850 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
That is a well respected unit
The RM850x is a pretty good PSU
Then i assume with all of this you probably need a lot of cables (i have no idea if all the connections for parts come with) and some thermal paste at a minimum to get this to work
Would be weird if it didn't, and would make it really complex for beginners 😅
and basically all third party cpu coolers come with thermal paste
Well no, it used to be the case that you needed to source your own SATA and IDE cables
those came with the motherboard
and have done for... every board I have bought that I can think of
I remember those days, but that was quite some time ago 😅
They would come with like one sata. Back then it was pretty common to need at least two. One for your cd drive and at least one for your hard drive.
But yeah, not a thing anymore.
NVMEs slot right into the motherboard
And cds are normally done with an external USB caddy in the rare instances they are used at all
And they still come with SATA cables😅
2 sata cables in the case of this motherboard
looks at my USB BD player
For me it was always one. Fortunately I had a large bundle of spares I pulled from scap machines.

anyone using with https://jetkvm.com

Take a look at nanokvm aswell
Tho jetkvm really is optimized for low-latency high definition.
I have 2 of them. I really like them. I was part of the kickstarter so I got mine for $69 each. Also recently bought a GLI KVM GL-RM10- which is quite a bit more expensive but can output to 4k.
Got my 1080ti out from retirement to fulfill it's god given role of running games again.
Tore it down put a phase change pad on the die put it back together and into my shoe box looking ass server it goes.
Gonna be running cloud gaming for a friend :)
Stress testing it rn I've got it set to run at 60% power and it's still beating the 2060 super and gtx 1080 rather easily
I just got an email offering $200 per stick of DDR4. How do I opt out of this time period?
GOtta go resurrect the gorilla
I’d sacrifice all the ddr5 ram for that
my PC lives again 🥳
only needed to spend 200 bucks on a motherboard :/
well I could've gone cheaper but I kinda wanted to get PCIe4 and more lanes in general
is there any device that splits a pcie 4 link into twice the pice 3 links?
Don't 200.- come with PCIe 5 these days?
Well it was 175€ soooo kinda I guess.
AM4 seems to be pretty expensive for its age
Replacing anything else would have implied a platform upgrade which just wouldn't be the time for it.
Would have been +250€ for RAM Alone
Oh, yeah that's very true, but I guess they aren't made in big numbers anymore for the western market.
250+ for RAM, I remember the day you got more than 64GB if you paid that amount 😅
Not without spending more money than a person would want. Pcie express switches are.. expensive
I'm talking about the upcharge to get the same quantity at lowest frequency DDR5 AND SELLING MY REALLY GOOD 32G DDR4
High end am4 was allways spensive
My mobo for am4 was meant to be £200 for a 550 chipset no less
Trying to get my pc running for the first time. I have these Asus SATA cables (pair) that im not sure where they need to go
asus P/N: 14013-00024400
Sata are a somewhat depreciated standard. With NVME drives a lot of systems no longer use them
Guessing the builder included them just in case you want to add extra sata drives in the future
Mmm, well then i don’t know why my monitor says no signal despite turning on. These are the only components that dont go anywhere besides this cable end which i dont know if it needs to be plugged in
Those bieng unplugged is fine
PSUs often have 2 8 pin connectors, but your GPU only use one
Can we get a picture of how you have everything plugged in in the back of your PC?
No display is a common issue
Yep, that is a very common mistake. You need your display plugged into the GPU ports, not the motherboard ones
Thanks, is it fine to keep the plastic blocker on the other port or is it better to remove?
Port covers? it doesn't matter. They just keep dust from getting in the port
It seems game devs these days are gonna deliberately block any GPU that isn't Nvidia and AMD.
I guess Nvidia and AMD are gonna pay devs to block GPUs that isn't from them so they can keep the duopoly.
1st Crimson Desert blocking Intel Arc entirely, even if your PC has 1 that you aren't using for gaming the game doesn't even boot.
And I hear another title currently in development does the exact same thing.
They probably can't legally do that.
Intel gpus are not blocked, they are not supported.
If you are using custom gpu code, not just dx or Vulcan, you need to compile it for each vendor
It refused to boot on my system unless I start the game through the Exe instead of Steam.
GamersNexus actually has info on that in their latest video. Intel only got the game when it was launched. So, no support until their gpu team can literally build a driver for it.
Intel's statement was pretty in the face towards the game developer calling them out for ignoring any and all communication they sent to them offering help.
from some stuff I have picked up regarding another game that lacks intel gpu support, the intel gpus may be doing stuff sufficiently differently that support isnt quite as simple as it might be between amd/nvidia gpus. plus that dev was having big trouble getting support from intel to get it to work
I mean, it still sucks that a game refuses to boot when it detects an Intel Arc GPU no matter if you use it or not.
how do these two ways of starting the game differ?
because that statement of yours tends to contradict your initial claim just a bit
Through Steam it apparently uses a launcher type of thing.
While through the Exe you bypass that.
If you are running multiple gpus, there is a good chance that it's launching on the wrong one. Is a big problem with laptops and igpus
Why launch on the iGPU when there's no screen connected through it😅
so its the publishers launcher that is the issue then? not the game?
Who knows. Could be that it's not a 3d application
Pearl Abyss self publishes their games, but they still use a Launcher
I don't know about the other game
anyway, sounds like you have a workaround (start the game that "blocks Intel Arc entirely" directly). this does sound like a launcher issue rather than a game one though
It's just annoying that I can't do it through Steam😅
Bit clunky, but you can probably add the exe to steam by linking it as a non steam game
There is also this https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/jpgfzh/can_i_make_steam_open_a_different_exe_file/
I did it in GOG.
A bit more hassle than Steam but better than nothing.
Pearl Abyss, devs from Crimson Desert just unlocked the game so people with Intel Arc GPUs can play the game, even when it's not optimised.
This is what happens with developers choose greed and influence over consumers...

Not into tech much, anyone got experience with starlink/ uses one with the roaming when moving?
Am debating getting one perhaps for my truck as on the road and out of country much so unlimited data sounds nice but idk if they would be good for that at its price range
They have a plan specifically for what you’re describing
I looked into it pretty heavily when I was planning for the rv lifestyle
They have a roaming plan
yeah i saw
was just wondering bout peoples experience before forking over 250 for the unit plus probz 70bucks for adapter and mounting shit to hang it on my roofwindow of truck/ 90bucks a month plan
You can even roam with the normal plan, but it'll be less stable than the roaming plan
what , like driving?
Don't know, I only ever used when stationary 😅
yeah i see, well i mean, i want the unlimited one obv
spending more n more times in not netherlands and i like
have a 100gb roam
outside of that
and im almost trough :k
plus just easier for the laptop/ wanna get a small tv in cab that run of internet too
Then the roaming plan should be the best
the stationary but for travelers just be u set up when parked each time or sum no?
not work when driving?
I don't know actually, all I know is if you travel a lot, the roaming 1 is better.
How it actually works, I don't know
mhm k
Maybe ask people who camp a lot, there's a bigger chance of them having Starlink Roaming than us tech people 😅
They have a different plan for internet while in motion and that uses a different flat top mounted antennae. There's a US RV discord I'm in that has people that have figured out various quick mounts for the regular starlink to make setting up and taking down a lot easier.
The stationary definitely DOESN'T work while driving.
It needs line-of-sight to it's satellites and for the stationary one to actually do something meaninful it needs to be aligned by hand.
they have one that auto-adjusts and one that has a broader field of view afaik but not sure
That doesn't sound right to me. Starlink satalites are not in geostationary orbit.
Nono, not at all
But the app gives you a specific spot in the sky to point it at to ensure consistent connection while the different satellites are handing your connection off to eachother
If you mis-align it, you often get dropouts because the antenna doesn't have ANY of their satellites in it's field of view during hand-off
OK, I thought all the versions had tracking capabilities. I seem to recall an anti cat feature that would let you tilt them to dump any cats that decided to sit on the heating element
Nope, thats just the premium options.
The cheapest are basically just a square with a kickstand.
It can aim using electromagnetic manipulation inside of its field of view tho. that is how it targets the satellites
Something something beam forming
...why tf do I know all that? 🤔 I only set one up at our office once, when our ISP was down...
Grrr. Pulled a WiFi card out of a laptop to stick in a tinypc.. it was minipcie not m.2 😦
It's not like there's physical size differences between the two 🤔
There is. Minipcie is about 10mm wider. If i had been thinking in would have realized it was wrong when I was pulling it out
Don't worry, I have done the exact same thing, even with early SSDs
Yeah minipcie is a pain.
Especially since some types of modules only come in minipcie
Tbf m.2 is also a pain...
Want wifi + bt card?
You need that special type of m.2 that routes pcie and USB
Want a GSM modem?
Need either that other special m.2 slot or minipcie
M.2 is great for SSDs, anything else is basically too niche and you need to sort out the headache auf M.2 A-G connectors
Fuck this
its basically just M used for ssds these days iirc, and... A or E for wifi. though sometimes maybe B 🤔
mhm, well im planning if i do to get the mini with the roaming plan on the move
just short drops cuz tunnels or such is fine by me
and bonus is they be flat mounted so i then either mount it on my roof window or ask mechanic make a bracket or such and put it on the back of the truck
Oh! The roaming plans are much more reasonable now
Yeah not sure if the flat mounted ones can do roaming thats the thing
it will happily work while stationary and the plan is fin with your receiver moving around a bunch but I'd def look at the details sheet before buying
The flat mounted are specifically intended for use with in motion plans
Well I ordered one
Saïd fuck it
As I checked, if say i do run out of data on phone out of country jts 20 quid for 6 gb and I mean
That’s nothing for me
I use that just for my traffic app in a day
So yea
Which one did you get?
Mini
Fits inside my truck on skylight and can be used flat mounted
If ends up needing I could always upgrade and have mechanic make an mount and pull wire into cab
Oh that’s nice but I mean also theft risk
But that’s a good idea and could work for me, but if it works inside cab I’ll keep it there so it won’t be stolen as u know
Sleeping 8 hrs someone go on I won’t notice as Im a deep sleeper
But I’ve considered such if needed but on a pneumatic system or smth that releases it up/ unlock
Mhm got email, seems 5th/9th April it be already delivered

Excellent, I managed to snag Ubiquiti's travel router while it was briefly in stock. Will be very useful this summer.
Also saw they are jumping into the smoke/fire/carbon monoxide alarm business. Will be interesting to see how those work. I have to replace my current alarms in the next 2 years as their filters eol.
Yea intel on some crack ATM for laptops
I mean 43 hours on a 70 Wh battery, that's almost 2 days full, heck, if that laptop had a 100 Wh battery it probably would surpass that.
I think Intel is using some black magic or something.
It wasn't long ago they reached less than half.
I'm.surpisee the 16 inch version doesn't tbh
It uses the exact same battery as the 14" one weirdly
Dell probably only increased the chassis and screen size.
And use the USB on daughter boards so they can easily extend the chassis size without changing the motherboard.
Please tell me how the keyboard feels and how the screen is.
I am thinking about a simple replacement for my Surface Book 2.
And it shouldn't be too expensive as I need it for work.
My ones the Tandem OLED model with the full fat panther lake chip
Was on sale for just under 2k down from 2.25
Under 2K, damn, that's a steal
You can get the LCD model with a lower end chip for like 1.6 or I think an oled with the lower end chip for 1.7
My ear are tingling********
XPS16 2026 for 1600?
thats the 14 not sure what the 16 is
lemme check
the 14 is really smoll its the size of most 13" laptops because it has borderline no bezzels
starts at 1700 for the none oled
1900 for the oled for the xps 16
Well. Even with the current pc parts market it soon might be cheaper to build a budget pc than buying a console. The PS5 pro now costs $900.
Awww man :///
Still hoping i can get a 338H 16" laptop 🤔
The 14 is 1800 for the tandem oled there's no difference between the 14 and 16 other than physical size
14" tandem oled would be great aswell
But so far I still haven't seen a confirmed model with that specific APU (entry arc b370)
I want an X7 or X9 handheld 🤣
Number go up 🤓
X9 has extra cores but has the same iGPU
Unless I compared the wrong ones😅
you did
both are identical
the x9 has higher clocks thats it which doesnt mean anything really
So confusing all these names because the 1 I looked up has 2 P cores instead of 4😅
That sounds utter useless🤔

Make a tray/ desk to use while in seat with laptop on steering wheel and a mouse keyboard on the tray, we could be onto something there
maybe

Sounds like you need a couch board (i think they're called that)
Hell yeah, a Couchmaster! *... been called that before 🤓 *

Well. Never thought id use a program that eats 90% of my system memory with just a broswer tab open with it. Starfields Creation Kit is a hungry beast. I can barely run it.
Many similar programs use what they can pull
Just looked at system req for the CK. I barely meet the min for ram. Min requirement is 32gb, it recommends 48gb.
With 3D programs take any spec sheet with a grain of salt😅
So basically the Creation Kit is free but also costs $3000.
Well this is annoying. I wanted to play the new starfield update, but for some reason I can't find my save file...
I did factory reset my computer, but I imaged my drive before that and it is even missing from there.
Where's the savefile usually located?
Documents folder?
Because Microsoft has been known to basically just move Media folders like that to onedrive
For Bethesda games?
User > Documents > Games
Or is just that specific subfolder missing?
That was it. Thanks for pointing that out
Lol hell nah
The weird thing is that it didn't move the entire "my games" folder, just several specific games
And most of those have been duplicated, not moved entirely...
note to self: do not drop an m.2 screw on to grey carpet
Still better than the hidden Lego pieces
I didnt find it. luckily I had a spare from another wifi card (minipcie not m.2) that I pulled out of another machine... annoyingly the antenna cable I had used an older and larger connector so wont work on the card I put in 🙁
Okay, so the legion tower I bought a while ago has been great, easy maintenance and generally great for my simple gaming! Here’s my question:
What sorta specs should I aim for when building a high end pc? I have a decent surge protector (3000w ish)
Cause as far as I know I should aim for a 5070 ti or 5090 at my local microcenter
thoes are 2 very very different gpus
the 5090 is literally 2x faster
Unless you’re actually going to use the horsepower of a 5090 a 5070 will be more than sufficient
depends on what kinda gaming you wanna do too
like if high resolution high refresh is what you want the 5090 will do it
but also very very spenny especially atm
Well, a 5070 can also do that in the majority of cases
the 5090 is hardest hit by memory price increases as it uses the most memory chips out of any consumer gpu
4k 120-240?
in CS maybe
it'd not be doing that well in GTAV enhanced or Hunt Showdown or Darktide
I’ve seen people report hitting that in CP2077 with one
I’m also coming from a 5090 and it’s overkill in 90% of game situations
If you want the best best then spend for a 5090. But a 5070 will meet your needs in most cases
That’s my main point
the 5070 is a very good value gpu but it doesnt even hit half the performance of the 5090 the 5070ti is a cut down 5080
a 5050 would get the majority of your needs in most cases but like 5070 ti vs 5090 is a weird choice to bring up honestly like thats not a small choice thats spending 2.5x more money on one gpu than the other
like if you can afford to spend 2-3k on a gpu and you dont mind spending that much money then get yourself a nice monitor and enjoy but like the 5070ti will do 4k 60 in like anything if you are running lower resolution youll get even more
Seeing as I’m going to be using it for more than just gaming
(Architecture modeling, 3d renders/modeling, art and video editing) I’m not becoming a streamer or YouTuber, that seems to emotionally and mentally taxing to me!
It’s the way to go for me, plus it’s better to be future prepared, for the ever-growing tech industry
5090 makes more sense with this context
What sometimes is forgotten in that discussion. The bigger card could serve you twice as long
For me for example I still use the 1080TI. A 1070 is not being used today anymore I would think
in Germany that thing currently goes for like 300-600€ and actually it's still very capable!!!

yee just saw this
its not bad atall
price wise for the same spec its not too disimilar to Dells XPS though seems to loose quite substantially on batery life
still fantastic battery life vs AMD devices though
FFFFFFFFUCK I JUST GOT THE FW16 Ryzen 7840 at work ._.
I mean... the new one is probably WAY more expensive but still
It's actually a blast tho!
Maybe I can snag a new Module 🤔 I only got 5/6 atm
They are a little pricey tho
They're pricey upfront though, if you're careful with your devices and look after them they're actually pretty cheap
It’s competitive with the XPS
In price it's almost 1:1
Though the XPSs battery life is substantially longer
Owing I think almost entirely to the soldered memory
Being free of Dell’s crapware is a huge bonus imo
you can just like reinstall the OS?????
the upgradeability of the framework is huge plus as it allows hopefully for you to upgrade to the next gen when that releases for substantially less than just buying a new device
You know that. I know that. Typical users don’t or are intimidated by it. Being able to recommend something comparable that doesn’t have to be detoxed is a win
Doesn't help with the horrid firmware issues I had on my "old" work laptop (xps 17) xD
Given the repairability and adjustability, absolutely. Steep upfront is what most people care about sadly :/

100$ might be a tough sell, but it seems that they will be releasing really soon
Ouch
anyways
If they are giving me steam deck controls on a computer, without the tablet in the middle? I am in anyway
and now with the teardown and everything, and the fact that the puck also does charging I can somewhat understand why they placed the TMR sticks on the same board as the USB-C port
since in most cases, you would be going wireless and charging via the puck pins, which look suspiciously like emm, nothing alike old macbook magsafe connector pins
oh nice
Thats the main thing im interested in
i already have a Decent VR Headset atm and the steam machine is uh... i have my gripes
Also my main point of interest is the controller - as for the Steam machine - we'll need to see how it fares price/performance wise to things like minisforum/OEM miniPCs from the big 3
It is targetted mainly at people who might otherwise buy a console
the steam machines issue is gonna be if anyone makes an intel panther lake APU system for the same price as it its instantly doa
and with the size, it's also pretty mobile
the steam machine performance wise is going to line up pretty much exactly with the RX7600M/Desktop RX 6600 conviniently also what the B390 IGPU in intels latest chip is aproximately equivilent to
IF valve released the steammachine last year it'd be a much better sell
but not only is it going to be borderline incapable of running anything new at 1080p 60fps it'll do so while consuming 2x the power of devices now similarly capable to it and with new generations not far away the prices of pcs running older hardware generally might drop and any midrange pc from the last 6 years will outperform the steam machine
the battery looks super easy to replace which is fantastic

Okay, went to get a custom pc from microcenter, need tips for this thing. Specifically maintenance and proper care
Besides dusting, and putting on a new thermal paste every 5-6 months (last my research recommended), what do I need to do to properly care for this?
dusting is the main thing
You really do not need to replace thermal paste
Its one of those things you do if you start having issues, not something you do regularly. I have a few systems that were built more then ten years ago that have never had there thermal paste replaced
You will need to monitor your cooler a bit, since it is watercooled there is a good chance it will die within 3-5 years
