I am writing a card to my German exchange partner and their family and giving it to them when I come to stay, we have never met before but we have talked online, should I use formal or informal language and can you give some suggestions on what I should end the letter with?

do you use formal or informal language when you talk to them online? are you similar in age?

We are in the same school year and I usually talk to her informally in German but formally sometimes (I get the pronouns mixed up sometimes but she doesn’t seem to mind 😭😭)

yeah then I would go for informal language
when you visit the family will most likely want you to use du too
