Der, Das, und Die... Why?

I'm kind of confused as to why certain articles are used for certain... Objects or things? Like I get people but for Ex: Die tur oder Das Sofa oder Der tisch. I get help from my husband sometimes but it's only sometimes because everytime I ask about things I don't get a simple answer instead I get, "not exactly but yeah you can say that" 🥲 like is it wrong or not?! "Yeah but not exactly" YES OR NOOO? "No but grammar wise you would say (a whole completely different sentence)" uhhhh, ok?

So can someone properly tell me why we use certain words for these things? All I got is you just know when to use it as you learn (husband) 🤣 it's frustrating

Short version: you have to learn gender as a part of every word. There are a couple dozen "soft rules", almost all with exceptions that are common words.

I think ; Germany genders are logical not biological meaning to say you need to study the noun and it's aritikel .

yes, the best soft rule you can memorize is that ca. 97% of all nouns ending on "e" are femininum, so they go with "die". (And the vast majority of those, incidentally, will form its plural form by slapping an "n" after it. Unfortunately, this is the only general pattern with such a widespread applicability.)

And that kind of makes sense bc I saw a word that ended with -e but it did not start with die. Which made me even more confused

I was hoping there was some kind of tip on how to tell. Like I get the gender and endings. But it seemed like when it came to things like furniture, it's completely random. Thank you though!

Yes, there are plenty of words that end with -e and are not feminine. For example, der Junge (boy), der Name (name), der Käse (cheese), das Auge (eye), das Ende (end), and many more. So I would not recommend to rely on that pattern. It's only useful if you're in a situation where you have to guess and don't have another choice.

Do Germans correct you if it's wrong or is there not really a wrong or right answer when it comes to those specifically

All in all, it's not a huge issue and if you say der Auge instead of das Auge, everyone will understand you anyway. It's mostly important for when you want to get a language certification, then they will pay attention to it.

There is a right and wrong answer, but like kuh said people will still understand you. They usually won't correct you unless you ask them to
