It used to be the standard version. In some contexts, I'd say it's still the (slightly) dominant version, but in a lot of casual contexts, "wegen dir" has become more common in recent years/decades. Wait a couple more decades, and maybe it'll fall out of fashion completely, but as of now, I'd still consider it firmly part of the commonly understood standard language.

You used to have to form "wegen" with the Genitiv of the noun/pronoun which is in the case of du/you "deinetwegen". However, it has been for a long time one of the most important language-cultural conflicts among Germans that the Genitiv regarding "wegen" is falsely replaced by the Dativ. The use of the Dativ was/is seen as a sign of a lack of education. Nowadays, both cases are correct to use, the Dativ probably more common, but some people will still have a better view on you if you use the Genitiv.

Example: "Because of this book, I started learning German"
Dativ: "Wegen diesem Buch habe ich angefangen, Deutsch zu lernen."
Genitiv: "Wegen dieses Buchs habe ich angefangen, Deutsch zu lernen."
