So, why did you get the 2nd one totally wrong? 🤔 The Akkusativobjekt/direct object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence, and apart from the appropriate form of "werden" (which you've got), you need Partizip 2, not an infinitive.

Not quite. New big projects are presented to the public in workshops [by the towns/cities] -> Neue Großprojekte werden der Öffentlichkeit (Dativ Aktiv remains Dativ in Passiv) [von den Städten] in Workshops vorgestellt.

by the towns = von den Städten (Dativ plural -> not only the article changes, but so does the ending of the noun)

I'm really not sure what you mean by that? Prepositional objects/adverbs do not change when you're converting a sentence from Aktiv to Passiv (or vice versa), except for the subject in Aktiv, which becomes "von + Dativ" (or "durch + Akkusativ)
