Hasn't happened to me but a friend of mine living in Berlin has just had this situation where the roomate started flirting with them. I think it's okay, in fact this is how me and my girlfriend met. But my friend says it's very disrespectful and now there is a weird vibe and it's difficult to live in the same apartment. I think as long as it is a respectful proposal there is nothing bad about it. What do you germans think?
#What do germans think about flirting with a roomate?

Not German, but I think regardless of whether it's respectful or not, it would make me initially uncomfortable if someone I have to live around/with long term starts flirting with me, though if they don't pursue it further when I turn them down, it's somewhat alright? I dunno, depends on the person and how well I know them.
Though it's also Berlin, where your roommate flirting with you is the most vanilla normal thing that can happen to you as far as your social life goes.
As a German, I hate any interaction I ever had with any of my roommates, and I just want to be left alone. There are extremes on both sides, as long as both sides are OK with it it's fine. But yeah, can be a valid reason to move out, would make me very uncomfy and I'd never leave the room again and starve

Not judging but isn't that a little bit extreme? Like you are adults living on the same household you need to interact, isn't it better to be friends so it can be a good experience for everyone?
You'd be surprised. People can often be like this at work too. It's just personal preference.
Idk, I always try to be friends with people I need to interact with in a daily basis. But it's true that germans are different in this regard.
Especially in dorms, it's not always like this. I lived in a Dorm with three other people, one was never there anyways, and the other two were internationals and had parties all day while I love my silence. The most we talked was exchanging papers and numbers for the GEZ fee splitup
Dorms allow this setting to happen very often. U get thrown with random people and there's no necessity to interact, everyone has separate rental contracts etc.
The problem with my friend here is that there is this new roomate after three days of knowing each other he proposed to her "you want to sleep with me tonight?" which I think is weird but as long as he accepted the rejection and doesn't make it weird I don't see anything wrong.
So yeah we didn't "have to interact on a daily basis" either lol
Oh okay, I mean more like shared apartment. I've never been in a dorm.
Took their shot, didn't work, as you said as long as it's respectful
Uhhh that's some extreme flirting for a short amount of time. Kinda creepy.
This setting also sometimes shows up in shared flats, each to their own
Yeah I never said it's not creepy I do agree it is, taking in account the new roomate is 29 and my friend is 21. He took a high risk high reward option and it didn't work out that's life, but now my friend says she doesn't feel comfortable around the apartment and is wondering if she can report him to the landlord someway? It's complicated idk.
Like I would say reporting him is such an overreaction but it is true now she doesn't feel comfortable in her own apartment
I don't think the landlord / police /... would do much unless actually something unwanted happened
I wouldn't report him unless he's being creepy, but I get feeling uncomfortable
I also think they cannot do anything but she said she wants to email the landlord anyways so there is a written record of what happened so if in the future something happens you have some kind of prior proof
I mean a simple "hey wanna x?" and "no" and "OK" is not reaaaaaally any type of proof for anything
Yeah i think that too but I wanted to know other people's opinion, I think the same
