I am using currently oxford German English dictionary but I found many words are missing in that? What to do?
Can you give some examples of words you feel are "missing"?
You see symphoniker, musikstunde, landwirte, cocktailkleid, stadtmarathon, Basenwirtschaft and many other words also missing.
duden is the dictionary you need... 😄
With a language like German, all editors of bilingual dictionaries have to choose which compound nouns to include and which ones to exclude. They'll usually choose to exclude those whose meaning can be easily deduced from their components: die Stadt + der Marathon = city marathon; die Musik + die Stunde = music class. Standardized spelling of "der Symphoniker" has changed to "der Sinfoniker". Basenwirtschaft simply doesn't exist, it's "die Besenwirtschaft" (which is a rather regional thing). "das Cocktailkleid" (elegant short dress for social events) isn't used much anymore. The only one of the words above I feel is genuinely missing is "der Landwirt" = farmer.
So what I have to do?
Not to use bilingual dictionary
a) use common sense b) look up things online, in a different dictionary
Using a monolingual dictionary is the best option, but usually hard or even impossible for people below B2/C1.
Okay but I asked for a book like dictionary
Danke
Danke.
And I told you no bilingual dictionary will show all compound nouns. 🤷
