Read the instructions carefully! (not joking, when people fail, it's mostly because they don't) Address every point given in the instructions for the email. Make sure you know about form (points are taken off for everything you get wrong there). Most importantly: keep it simple and to the point! An exam is not the time to go on linguistic adventures, trying out constructions you're unfamiliar with. The only thing the examiners want to see is whether you can follow instructions and can make yourself understood in German. They are 100% uninterested in original/interesting/funny things which might occur to you, okay? If the instructions say you are supposed to thank somebody for a party invitation and ought to ask whether they want you to bring some food, and what kind, then this is precisely what you need to write about. -> Do NOT say you have a better idea and will bring fireworks instead, okay? This is the surefire way to failing the exam.
