Was ist das Unterschied zwischen „mich“ und „mir“?

Warum sagt man „gib mir der Kaffee“ und nicht „gib mich der Kaffee“? Ich weiße „mich“ ist Akkusativ aber ich verstehe nicht was ist das Unterschied, danke. (Sorry for my bad German)

"mir" is dative case.

Gib mir den Kaffee.*

This is easier to understand if you already understand direct and indirect objects in English.

Verbs with two objects, like geben, have the direct object in accusative and the indirect object in dative.

So for geben, the thing being given is accusative, and the one who receives it is dative.

Basically for the same reason you say "Give it to me" in English ("it" being the direct object/Akkusativ and "to me" being the indirect object/Dativ). Think: you can drop the "to", but saying "Give me to it" would a) be pretty unusual, and b) change the meaning entirely. ;)

So if I understood correctly, if I’m going to say something like “Show me your car”, I would say “Zieg mir dein Auto” or if I’m going to say “give him his coffee” it would be “gib ihm seinen Kaffee“
