it's just a matter of the historical evolution of the sound; a historical accident that doesn't have to concern us much
the sound at the beginning of -zig evolved into a sharp s rather than a "ts" sound, because this is the only one of the multiples of 10 between ten and a hundred where it comes directly after a vowel rather than after a consonant
