Help With Sentence Construction.

1 - Es macht sehr viel Spaß, Deutsch zu lernen.

2 - Es ist sehr Spaß Deutsch zu lernen.

I wanted to respond in a conversation with this sentence and my brain thought of 2. When I translated it online though it generated 1.

I had a few questions. Why are machen and viel used in the sentence like that in 1? Is **1 **the proper way of saying it? Are there grammar rules I am unaware of on how certain words are used in sentences that don't make sense to me as a native English speaker when trying to create sentences in German?

Context: I understand the meanings of the words machen and viel but I have no understanding of their application here.

Yes, 1 is the proper way of saying it. Yes, apart from many similarities, you will also encounter lots of expressions and verbs requiring a differenct construction than they do in English. In this case: X is fun = X macht Spaß

X is very fun = X macht viel Spaß

"very" translating to "viel" in this particular case makes a lot of sense once you realize "Spaß" is a noun, and combining a noun with very/sehr simply doesn't work, neither in English nor in German (very house? very milk?)
