Its not wrong but I'd say: "weil ich etwas verändern will" (because i want to change something)

Grammar-wise, it's fine. It's just so unidiomatic, people won't understand what you're trying to say (unless they're able to translate it back to English) ;)

We only use "k/einen Unterschied machen" when referring to things or concepts (it matters/doesn't matter), not people changing things.

No. Those are different verbs, and they're rarely interchangeable.
