unless you can't speak german, you should do it all in german imo. Most jobs will expect application materials like a Lebenslauf (resumee) and a Bewerbungsbrief (cover letter), Arbeitszeugnisse from previous jobs if relevant, Sprachzertifikat can't hurt either

well I don't think my German is fluent enough to write a coherent resume

and I definitely don't have any form of language certificate as I'm "self-taught"

well, if you're applying to english (or other language) - speaking jobs, then english (or whatever other language) should also be fine

but if you're applying to jobs where german is expected, then german

i heard that native english speakers are usually hired for customer services in germany. im also looking for a job in germany, but neither my english is perfect nor my german 😩 but you have a chance, i'd say give it a try
