Hi, I am trying to distinguish between when to use “zu Haus” and “nach Haus”.
My understanding is nach is used for geographical place names and points on the compass where as zu is used for other places e.g a bank as well as going to someone’s place.
So when you want to say “I am going to the house” why do we use nach Haus when that doesn’t fall under either of the aforementioned categories?

zu Hause and nach Hause are set phrases. They don't follow the typical logic/grammar and you just memorise them directly.
zu Hause = at home
nach Hause = to home
The "e" at the end of Hause is required.
So when you want to say “I am going to the house” why do we use nach Haus when that doesn’t fall under either of the aforementioned categories?
You wouldn't use nach Hause or zu Hause to say “I am going to the house”.
I am going home. = Ich gehe nach Hause.
I am at home. = Ich bin zu Hause.
I am going to the house. = Ich gehe zum Haus. / Ich gehe ins Haus. (depending on the exact meaning intended)

When you are at your house. Not just any house. It's like "home" in English. But yes, "zu Hause" to describe that something is located there, and "nach Hause" is used to describing going there.

As I said, it's a set phrase. It's doesn't follow any rule. You just memorise it the way it is without worrying about the reason.
