Was ist der Unterschied zwischen "Fachhochschule" oder "Hochschule"?

Which one would more translate to the idea of "University of Applied Sciences"?

According to DeepL, there are either 2 choices:

1. Fachhochschule
2. Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften

Between these 2, which one is the more proper use of it? I feel like it's Fachhochschule, but I could be wrong again. And besides, what really is the difference between Fachhochschule & Hochschule? Like when does one go for which? Are they mandatory? Is there a specific reason one goes one over the other? I honestly have no clue.

You have two options: "Universität" translates to university which are state provided/public. There are studies you can only complete there, legal professions for example.
"Fachhochschule" is similar, but privately/part-public often. These are the most common, for international use check which certificates fulfill which requirements and international transfer options if to be considered. Btw. "Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften" is a type of "Fachhochschule".

To my knowledge, apart from Fachhochschulen focussing much more on knowledge applicable in practice (while in principle, Universitäten are supposed to be more about theory/research), the main difference is: enrolment at a Universität is only possible if you've got the appropriate graduation certificate (Abitur) (or equivalent if you're from a different country), while you'd be able to enrol at a Fachhochschule after having successfully completed some professional training, for example, (that is: even if you don't have the appropriate graduation certificate/Abitur).
