I keep getting a few answers wrong. After I got it wrong the first time, I watched a few Youtube videos, but I still got some wrong...

Ergänze in, bei oder zu und den Artikel, wo nötig.
Kommst du ........(1) meinem Geburtstag?
Wo feierst du und wann?
Ich feiere .......(2) mir zu Hause .......(3) Auguststraße, am 9. Dezember.
Klar, ich komme gern. Und was machst du.......(4) Weihnachten?
Da sind wir ....... (5) meinen Großeltern ....... (6) Schwarzwald

For 1st one I thought it was supposed to be a) in dem b) bei, 4th both times I wrote bei, 5th - zu and 6 I had no idea, the other ones I got correct. I also don't really understand the meaning of these sentences which I got wrong. The answers are:

  1. zu, 2. bei, 3. in der, 4. zu, 5. bei, 6. im

(1) I think for events, we mostly use "zu" (zur Party gehen/kommen, zu einer Hochzeit eingeladen sein - to go/come to a party, to be invited to a wedding) (2) We use "bei" for "at somebody's home", as in: Where are you? At my parents' [home] -> bei meinen Eltern [zu Hause] (3) With addresses using "Straße/street", it's "in" (4) is a bit strange, I'd have said "an Weihnachten". For (5) see (2). (6) The Black Forest, der Schwarzwald is an area in Germany -> you use "in" when being in a certain place (Ich bin in Berlin/in Deutschland/in Bayern)

IMO, with prepositions and places, it's mainly getting accustomed to usage, I'm afraid. Do enough of these exercises, and/or hear/read enough German, and you'll get there eventually. ;)
