To my mind, there is very little difference between "Jetzt könnte ich die Bäume fällen", "Ich könnte jetzt die Bäume fällen", and "Ich könnte die Bäume jetzt fällen" -> the answer to "Why is jetzt where it is?" is "The speaker/writer felt like it". "früher" is a bit trickier. IMO, it's best left where it is in your example, and I think that is because it relates to the verb more than the trees ("Ich könnte früher die Bäume fällen" might be possible, but doesn't make me happy). I'd advise against putting it in Pos. 1, because usually, when we start a sentence with "früher", it means "in times gone by/in the past/I used to", instead of "earlier [than planned]".

But it is, it's right next to "fällen". - I'm afraid there is no easy answer to this. It depends on what else you've got in your sentence. 🧁
