do you think you will write advanced
i did bad in mains too
but without advanced no germany
if you get qualified for advanced, you can skip studienkolleg without spending a year here

true
nope
not qualified, you need to pass advanced as well
đł
as long as you get a rank in mains and advanced germany is happy
wait wdym by pass? like you only need to get an air right?
ye
yes yes
youve given up on that eh
makes sense
really fucked my mental health, jee
i thought id give up on the jee route too
it's just not in me
but was worried about delayed semesters
plus a german friend bonked me saying "study for one month and you can get in?? stfu and do it"
đ© im like okayy
hmmm yeah i thought so too but i couldn't concentrate
hahahaha i repeated for jee but ended up studying philo, sociology, etc all year. jee literally killed my interest in stem tbh
maybe we should move to dms or general now
ye
alright that's good
Hi
How much would it cost to study in Germany (masters)
I heard it would cost 10000-12000
For living expenses
Per year
Assuming that the uni has no tuition
Or negligible tuition
Would it cost approx. 24000 euros
For two years
Or is there other expenses
you may find this page helpful: https://www.daad.de/en/study-and-research-in-germany/plan-your-studies/costs-of-education-and-living/
"Since January 2021 you are expected to demonstrate funds of 861 EUR per month / 10,332 EUR per year."
Will i need more money tho?
tbh it's really going to depend on where you live
that'll be fairly easy in rural east germany, probably not enough in munich
(+ i think folks studying at unis can give more details about other uni-level costs, i was doing an internship)
universities often have a page saying what the expected cost of living per month is
yea ic
will it be hard finding a job in germany afterwards
They give me 18 months iirc
I Found it
Certainly bigger cities will have more opportunities.
Does anyone know how German universities handle cumulative GPA in the case of having attended multiple universities?
In America, only the cGPA exclusively from the semesters at the university where you finished your degree actually count. Even if you have transfer credits from other universities prior, those grades are generally ignored.

I want to look at studying in Germany, does anyone have any recommendations of good websites/articles/anything else that might help me find out more about whether itâs right for me, when Iâd need to meet each deadline exactly, language requirements, prices, steps to get visas and anything else. Iâll need to go down the Studienkolleg route because my language definitely isnât going to be on a C level by then. Iâd be very grateful for any resources or advice. You can DM or ping me if youâd like.

Thank you!
how would one going about finding the mietpreisbremse for my city? wanted to google how high of a rent is too illegal for my area in köln but didn't really have any luck
i have one question, who eligible for DSH course? is it only for the ones who confirmed their admission to the uni?
I am sorry if this is the wrong channel to ask but what are people's thoughts on Goethe online course? I heard several negative feedbacks about it. I am from a Non-EU country and it seems to be the only course I am able to participate in since I am in a distant location. Is it better than nothing or should I abstain from it? (I am talking about B1)
I am thinking it would be easier to understand since a teacher would be guiding me for my studies and I would be interact with other students there.
i originally wanted to study physical therapy in a german tradeschool but now im thinking about being an english teacher in germany :p
guys , Does anybody know where i could do IETLS exam in germany ?
literally the first result when you google your question... https://www.ielts.org/for-test-takers/book-a-test/location-list/germany/tv
are there not language schools in your country?
not in my city sadly
even if they were it wouldn't be TELC or Goethe (anything branded)
i mean, doesn't need to be branded
i've had good luck with just classes run by universities / schools / etc
it's worth looking to see if you can find any of those online, often cheaper than goethe :)
https://www.goost-immobilien.de/fakten-zur-aktuellen-mietpreisbremse/
Ohhh thank you very much!

hallo
ANyone b2?
Do we get the exact same questions in the exam like in the modelltest?
The one with Erik, Katharina , niels in lesen and fitness, financing your studies in sprechen?
would rather defeat the purpose of the exam if they asked you the same questions in the exam as in the example test đ§
i see but you know the same the better
Quick question...
Is it true if I managed to learn German... then It will be a very easy way to get the visa and study there for free ???
@waxen juniper Very easy no, doable yes. You still need a Studiumplatz. With nothing but a high school degree (assuming you're from the US) this might be problematic as high school diploma =/= German Abitur. You'd have to do prep courses or something along those lines first.
Consider then that you'd also have to finance yourself somehow, you need an apartment, money for food, stuff like GEZ (tbf I haven't payed this in over a year though) or semester ticket.
I think the community college for 2 years and then transferring to a 4 year state university for your Bachelor's first is probably a better route. Doing a Master's in Germany is much more straightforward, many programs are also in English.
Iâve got my Bachelorâs from Turkey last two months and Iâm planning to take masters in Germany.
Iâm from North Africa btw. I guess thatâs will make it even harder but my people here all thinking the same which is going to Germany either for studies or work. And lots of them had the opportunity and toke it. And they have work and settled there.
Interesting route you chose
Are you from Morocco
This website helps you to know what requirements you need based on what qualifications you have: https://www2.daad.de/deutschland/nach-deutschland/voraussetzungen/en/57293-database-on-admission-requirements/
The DAAD database on admission requirements allows international students to check whether they meet the requirements for the degree programme of their choice in Germany.
So I'm thinking about applying to study in Germany for uni. I'm only really aware of 2 Universities that offer mechanical engineering in English (KIT and Rhine-Waal Aachen university of applied sciences) and as part of the application, I have to prove my language proficiency in either English or German. Although English is my first language, from what I understand, I'd have to take it as an A Level, (at least from my limited correspondence with them) something I'm not keen on doing due to the potential increase in workload as a full subject, something I'm already struggling to balance. The other option (and my preferred one) is to learn German. From what I understand, there are two options for mechanical engineering, one that's taught fully in English and the other taught in what seems to be a mix. The KIT website says that for the mixed one that a level B1 in German is sufficient. However for the English course it says no proficiency in the German language is needed. Would I still be able to apply for the english course if I took german as my language
these are the language reqs for the mixed mechanical engineering course from the website
German language skills: for application, skills of at least B1-level are necessary. All certificates are accepted; A certificate of attendance of a B1-level course is sufficient. For enrollment, a DSH2 certificate or equivalent needs to be presented.
or English language skills of at least B2-level, eg proven by Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of at least 90 points in the internet-based test or equivalent. Proof of English language skills is not required for applicants who
have completed a degree program at a university with English as the sole language of instruction
have attended at least 5 years of English language classes in secondary school, can provide a higher education entrance qualification and have received minimum grades of 4 (sufficient, D) or at least 5 points in the last two school years of these English language classes.
Can proof of sufficient knowledge of the English language not be provided until the end of the application deadline, admission can be granted under the provision that one of the above-mentioned certificates of the English language will be provided during enrollment.
and then for the english only course
Mechanical Engineering (International) is aimed predominantly at international students. The majority of study places in this program is reserved for such students. The degree program is taught solely in English. Accepted proofs of language skills are e.g. TOEFL (250/88) or Cambridge Proficiency (see "Zulassungssatzung" / admission regulations). Proof of German language skills is not necessary.
something's not right abotu you needing to take an english language exam even if you're a native speaker
is it this course? https://www.carlbenzschool.kit.edu/mechanical-engineering-international.php
As part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Carl Benz School of Engineering offers a Bachelor Program in Mechanical Engineering.
in the FAQ they say:
If English has been the language of instruction of your higher education, please download our Declaration of English Proficiency signed by your school stating how long you have been studying in English.
so if english is your first language + you've been taught in english at school, that should be enough for proof of the language
nice
what are your a-level subjects?
Maths, History and Physics
and the school offers something called an EPQ
which im also taking
yes i know what an EPQ is
that a-level combination (even including EPQ) isn't enough for abitur equivalence
i think that's the issue
What do I do to reach equivalence then
yeah
I'm due to start the Goethe German course soon, so is there a level that has a rough equivalent to AS Level?
this is the 'general' a-level requirements for abitur equivalence
bc our school no longer offers AS-Level
AS Level is CEFR B1
but it doesn't matter if you take a course that's equivalent
you need the AS-Level
how to work around this
A-Level qualifications aren't considered equivalent to Abitur unless you have 4 independent subjects, at least three of which at A2 level, where one is a language, and one is one of maths or the sciences
you either have to take an AS level in a language or do studienkolleg / a preparatory semester
that's it
because even if you learn german for entry to the german course, your a-levels still aren't sufficient for direct entry onto a degree
So if I got to B1/B2, then studied the AS-Level syllabus for German and sat the exam independently, would that work?
yes.
also, it looks like teh course also requires you to take SAT, so keep that in mind too.
(SAT takes a fair amount of study even if you're doing a-levels)
yeah
you could also in theory enroll on AS English Lang, which i think is likely to be a bit easier
depends if your school ffers it tho
from what I know, they dropped AS anything a few years ago
or yeah sign up as a private candidate
it'll cost you $$ but if you want to get entry you need that AS level
A what
which country are you based in?
for a-levels in the UK (i don't know about other countries) you can enter yourself as a 'private candidate'
Malaysia, currently
where you essentially arrange to teach yourself the a-level / as-level and just pay to sit the exam
@unkempt briar lol im malaysian too. dont worry there are several places for you to sign up as private candidate
Which ambulance service works in baden-wurttemberg? Cause I see there's a ton of them like the DRK, JUH, Malteser
Does anybody know the syllabus or anywebsite where I can find pastpapers or information about the TELC german exam for B1 level ? Thanks for your replies
hhi
Does anyone have a resource or recommendations regarding moving to Germany? My wife is a German citizen and we will move from the US. Any helpful tips or hints on the process?
@crimson minnow Don't have resources to offer you but happy to answer any questions. Have done the move myself đ
i am in grade 10 rn and i wish to goto germany after class 12
Good luck. Be skeptical about the stuffs you read online. Especially from reddit's /r/Germany. They contain errors and misinformation. Sometimes I felt on purpose. Because some of the frequent posters made it very clear they hate foreign students and think they are leeches.
Better to search for the official infos.
Hey, quick question. I wanna visit some other states of germany, what would be a good location for immigrants like me? My friends told me "NRW" or "ThĂŒringen" would be pretty relaxed
NRW has a lot of immigrants, ThĂŒringen less so
but i think generally speaking you won't run into any issues
Berlin, Hessen, NRW, Bremen, Hamburg (most big cities will have larger immigrant populations. If you go out in the country it will be much less regardless of state). If you're worried about nazis, avoid Sachsen. Poorer areas and, sadly, more to the east tend to have higher concentrations.
Oh wow, now I wanna get out of this country
There is no reason to be afraid as an immigrant anywhere in Germany imo. Go where you want to go and see the sights you want to see. Realistically, the chance that someone will harass you is utterly minute. Where are you from?
Hi guys i am just trying my luck but, I am coming to Berlin on 21.09.21 in order to continue my bachelor and although i have already searched (and still searching) for three months to get a place in Berlin but still i got nothing. If you know anyone from Berlin or know a dorm or a place, which might have vacant rooms, can you please reach me from DM? My max budget is 400⏠(Gesamtmiete) per month.
Best regards
have you tried https://www.wg-gesucht.de/?
i'm not familiar with berlin but 400/mo sounds really low...
Yup
and you've not found anything...?
i found a lot of stuff through that, but you do have to (a) reply to the posting really quickly, (b) have a compelling firts message
No but most of the people want an interview in person and i really do not have such an opportunity as i am now in out of Germany
I'd be surprised if they didn't let you do an online one, with covid and all? Have you asked?
Alternatively you could get e.g. an AirBNB and search for stuff in person once you get there
potentially you have not been an immigrant in Germany, but I wouldn't put the odds of getting treated like shit at minute. Even in a big city as a white immigrant, I have had germans verbally harass me for speaking english. đ Still would agree that it's no reason not to live here, because you're likely to experience xenophobic/fremdenfeindlich attitudes all over the west and not just in Germany.
Trust me in these three months i also thought and tried Wggesucht my friend. I mean everybody tried there that site is not hard to find but xenophobia is
are you messaging in english or in german?
Like @wise obsidian said, try for an interview through zoom, otherwise you'll have to take an AirBnB or something for a couple weeks so you can find an apartment. Another suggestion, maybe look a bit outside the city, follow the train lines, I wouldn't go farther than an hour out per train from your uni, but you might have more look there as I imagine most students/people searching for apartments want to be as central as possible.
And yes 100% message in German
then i guess the next question is what did you put in the messages
housing is scarce nowadays, i imagine in Berlin its hyper competitive especially for students
You bet it is
if i had trouble finding a place in rural NRW i cant imagine what its like in the capital
I gave up on my first choice uni just so I wouldn't have to try for an apartment in berlin. đ
Technically yes because I moved to Germany 2 years ago from America, but maybe that doesn't count. If someone verbally harassed me for speaking english in a city of all places I'd probably flip out on the person in question. In any case, not saying many people aren't going to avoid you or look at you funny, maybe even discriminate you for housing or w/e--this certainly happens in every country and germany is no exception. But I don't think you should be worried about being harassed or facing violence, highly unlikely.
also 400 isn't low for shared apartments, lot of arrangements can be as low as 250
I would reply that with a gif but im afraid that after that you would probably ban me from here đ©
rural NRW is an oxymoron
(kidding obv)
hey man, just trying to help đ€·ââïž
Same story for Hamburg
Couple of opening sentences some info about me my situation and my contact infos
true the Ruhr dominates the province
what everyone already said is good advice. Try to be the first message (i.e. LIVE on ebay kleinanzeigen and WG-gesucht) and be willing to look for something further out. It is much easier to get a room closer to your uni after you're already living in the area. Do not confine yourself. For example, getting a room in Potsdam and then trying to move in from there.
Quick summary
immoscout is also another place to search, but those will be higher-end apartments, not really catered for students
Where in NRW are you living? I was stationed in Höxter and that was an hour away in all directions from the Autobahn lol, rural NRW is no joke. That place was a black hole.
Niederrhein
Sorry dude i had a bad day or on second thoughts make that a bad week
but like the part where NL is closer than DĂŒsseldorf
It just pisses me off that there is only 9 days left and still i couldnt figure it out
did you respond to places for zwischenmiete?
but i go to an agricultural school so this setting is actually ideal @jagged oasis
that's another option, most likely easier to find temporary rent for a month or two
and again, search inward from there
I mean for the first month yeah i applied for such places
Problem is rents are gone up since the last year
did you get in touch with your uni? Sometimes they can help you
@wispy charm Don't fret bro, Gf and I have been looking for apartment in Bayreuth for 3 weeks now, we have contacted probably 25 apartments and haven't gotten a single chance to set up a viewing appointment. The market is absolutely fucked right now. You gotta make do.
I didnt know that
other than that it's an unfortunate situation in an unfortunately tight market. Someone native might be willing to help you with your message (corrections, suggestions) to make it more appealing
no idea. I just know that in my master program they had something like that (not in Berlin). You may consider the international office or googling info about it? Or your program director
I would contact the international office but whoever you contact will probably direct you to the right person
Thanks for the support bro u 2 stay strong as wellđ
I will look up for that. Thx
Feel free to post your message or whatever that you are sending to these places here too, maybe we can help polish it off
okay so I contacted my landlord and he said that my broken stove top repairs are covered by him, but the electrician he gave me the contact into for, i can't get in touch with despite multiple attempts. it's been a good two weeks and i need my stove top fixed already. can I just contact any random electrician, have them fix it, and send the bill to my hausverwaltung? what exactly is the process
@mild quiver Have you talked to the landlord again and said you can't contact him? I would start by asking him again if he would be fine with you finding another electrician, otherwise he might throw a fit if you do it without his consent.
hausverwaltung got back to me and told me i can just get my own electrician. wish he told me that sooner tho
Did anyone do his/her bachelors in engineering in electronics in Germany?
@granite wraith Depends what you are looking for. Universities in Germany are quality-wise more or less the same everywhere, with some exceptions if you are looking at particular StudiengÀnge or obviously if you are going into graduate school, there are big differences in research areas and departments.
Do you want to live in a massive urban center?
If so, then you can't go wrong here, you'll have everything you want or need. But if you are someone who wants to live somewhere quieter, closer to nature, then.... probably not the best choice.
I honestly donât mind where I live as long as itâs cheap livable and safe
@granite wraith Safe definitely. Cheap, on the other hand, is tricky. There's a general housing shortage across all major German cities right now, especially in the West. You can look up the Mietspiegel for DĂŒsseldorf if you want to specifics as to rent price.
If you want cheap living though, I would try to find an apartment outside the city in a smaller town or village. Better yet, if you want really cheap, just go to east Germany and get a big studio for 200 euros a month. Jena, Leipzig, etc are all great cities and universities too.
Donât universities there have dorms? Wouldnât that be also a cheap option?
Probably yeah, or a room in a WG also, both cheap options, with possible drawbacks like communal kitchen, living with other people, etc.
Actually it's still pretty good if you live just a few km away from city centres. There's a lot of green around Dortmund for example because it's not super dense. You can live in a quiet place and still be within walking distance of an ubahn station
anyone know any good apps to make friends in germany ??
How much does it cost on average to rent an apartment in Erlangen?
I'm planning to go to university in Germany and accommodation seems to be a problem
Iâm planning to take the M kurs in the studienkolleg (to study dental) but friends told me itâs less likely to get accepted in dental. Iâd like to know in case I didnât get accepted in dental school what else I can attend with the M kurs. And if wanted to study engineering will I have to re-take the studienkolleg in the T-kurs
Iâve done my research but sadly couldnt find anything regarding this topic
You could try Jodel
Although personally the way that worked for me was being active on discord, making friends here and then meeting them
Look up the Mietspiegel for Erlangen or go to https://www.immowelt.de/ and search for apartments in Erlangen to get an idea of the price.
Not in my experience. With a study visa I have never been asked to prove German language skills. But if youâre worried about it just bring along your certificate
hallo guys, ich bin ken
finnaly found a place for international students
i was planning to study at Germany next year, whats the procedure

hi
Hello everyone. Has someone worked with Lieferando, Wolt or Gorillas? I would like to work with one of those apps and would like to know your recommendations. Which one is better in regards of payment and time flexibility? Thanks in advance
@mild quiver maybe you can help ? idk
i'd @ CEO if he was still here

Oder was willst du denn eigentlich studieren?
lol if you join either I'd suggest joining the NGG as well. Lieferando and Gorillas both have common issues with paying incorrect amounts and doing so late. Lieferando this was more of an issue for me. And if anything goes wrong Lieferando won't help you unless you sue. Scheduling wise Lieferando is far more flexible as in my experience Lieferando pretty much almost always gave the hours I asked for and if they messed them up all I had to do was call them to fix it. Gorillas you can only work certain time periods. The main issue with these companies is delayed and incomplete payments. Join the NGG (or your cities equivalent of a Gastronomie work union) with a membership of 1% your average income per month and after three months legal support relating to your job is included for free. Sounds expensive but these companies will fuck you over for every cent and these people will cover the stress of it. They can also check your payslips monthly to check if they are correct. For a mini job or a year of work, it's not so bad, but long term it'll probably take a lot out of you just from the problems I mentioned.
Another issue with Lieferando is that when it comes to overtime in the big cities, they don't really give a shit what your shift end time is and will not hesitate to give you an order 5 minutes before your end every day.
Thank you for the complete answer đ
Another thing I forgot to mention is that Lieferando has a bonus system where you'll get more cash for more orders, but it doesn't really help you if you're a minijobber. Only if you work part time/full time. For my city Lieferando was 10âŹ/hr and Gorrilas was 10.50âŹ, but because of tips and the bonus system, you'd get more through Lieferando even though Gorillas technically pays more. If you're a minijobber, you'll get pretty much the same amount through both regardless. But if you're working more hours, you'll make a significant amount more through Lieferando. However Lieferando has a much further delivery radius than Gorillas. Gorillas, in theory, will only have you take an order up to 3km (sometimes a bit further). While with Lieferando depending on your city and luck, you can get 5km or more since their algorithm is shit. So that's another thing to keep in mind.
Hello guys i just wanted ask that i can enter Germany without a visa so i will go to germany for 1 year of language course can i get my visa in germany? (Language course visa)
Like i can enter without any problem i don't need visa
If not my time is a bit short so i will just do 90 days in out or get second passport and send it to consulate
it depends where you are from
Turkey i have special passport allows me to come EU for 90 days
yeah maybe I just don't understand where the question part of the question is
if you can enter without a problem, you then apply for a visa within germany, yes.
THANKS
That was the question i can enter without a visa but i need to apply for language course visa if possible within germany if not i will have to go back to Turkey to get visa wait for it 2 weeks minimum which is losing a big amount of time
I can enter the country which i am comming this weekend and will register to language course rent a house etc. but i will need a visa for staying longer then 90+ days so i was asking can i get it while i am in Germany
@dusty wave Are you sure about that? https://www.passportindex.org/passport/turkey/ it says that a visa is required to enter. I would ask the German embassy. It's not visa-free/90days like other countries in that list
I have special passport that allows me to go EU without visa for 90 days
The normal Turkish passports need visa i don't
I'm not aware of a special passport that allows that but I am glad that you can. I have never heard about it.
Do you plan to go to Germany for work?
What's a KIT?
So i will also come and learn german for 1 year

I will get visa anyways problem is where
I'm not aware of student visa process. Good luck in any case!
thanks
I just read about it. It's tied to Turkish citizens. TIL
Today I Learned
Oh
Yeah yeah its tied to Turkish citizens only it like a deal
Only special passport owners
So Im looking to study in Germany and have questions about this one program. Do I contact the Sutdienberatung (study counselor?)?
Hey. I wanted to ask a question. Is it possible to online book for the city registration before coming to Germany?
Yes or the coordinator/chair of the program or department in question
Is digitalization getting any better in Germany since the pandemic?
Call or send an email to the welcome center of the corresponding city that you want to move in to find out.
Got any examples?
I do know that a good amount of places here in Hamburg still don't accept credit cards.
Was just wondering about examples is everyone's lives here, if there's any improvement at all. Last time I visited the country a few years ago I felt like I also went back in time đ
The internet was so awful as well, and so insanely expensive.
I think it's still the same more or less.
I pay 29.23 euros a month for 50 Mbps internet.
ooof
Life quality is still nice overall for me least. No major complaints apart from having to carry a good amount of cash just in case.
Coming from 1000 mbps for around 8 Euros, it seems so crazy.
Where do you live?
Aaa heard a lot about that country regarding internet.
Yeah, we're had it like that for almost a decade already, but everyone seems to be catching up now.
I am fine with the speed that I have. I don't do any heavy media download/upload but paying less would be nice. But overall, my life quality is great here.
Yeah, hopefully after these elections things start changing for the better. I'd still live there regardless of the internet tbh.
My guess for the telecommunications problem in Germany is that the base infrastructure was not handled correctly. That, in combination with political decisions spanning to this day.
typically you need to appear in person with your passport
how long does it take to do a bachelor degree in german?
actually what is studienkolleg its part of the degree right?
i saw online they say you need 12 months for studienkolleg?
honestly am not sure, never visited one myself. As far as I know you go to the studienkolleg before enrolling for any degree course and still have to fulfil all of your coursework after that, so it would be extra time...but maybe check online or wait for a more experienced answer
ahh thank you man
im starting to rethink my decision, i saw a quora post saying that german degree isn't really usefull outside EU
as an asian, its kinda concerning if i cant go back and used the degree.
all I know is learning deutsch is essential for bagging a job in germany
and its harder for foregneirs that are non EU to work in german right? because of requirement like C2 language certificate
but with the upcoming elections norms might get a lot easier for skilled students and professionals
if you do your degree successfully in german, your german will probably be good enough to find a job. You will have already had to have C1 just to get in.
right now its unnecessarily long for skilled immigrants to get a citizenship and move permanently
this says nothing of the job market, just the language alone.
yeah Whats the point of moving to Deutschland without learning deutsch
but i heard its diff in berlin since its a city for expats
yes the post also said they make it harder for foreigners to get a job which worry me
depending on your field it may be unnecessary. For example, as a biologist you can find work without german skills, as many labs are international and english is the operating language.
so i need c1 before i go there?
language requirements differ based on the job and course
hmm so its best for me to find the specific course and see requirement for said course?
if its an english taught course, then they just ask for ilets if youre not natively english
that is as far as the language requirements go , the courses mention the language proficiency needed
but the job market i heard is very weird, someplaces they make it C1 compulsory even for a basic job in your field
regardless I believe they won't be as discriminatory in the coming years as they have a work force shortage upcoming, they'll just be shooting themselves in the leg if they provide free education to foreigners and then discriminate them in the job market and send them out
that would be a bad macro economical move
plus I plan i learning total deutsch
so they just cant ignore me for my skin or language
ohh are you going to learn in germany?
i hope that is true
where did you get your bachelor?
currently the #1 uni in my country for my degree
All things considered, you are not likely to be very comfortable if you can't speak German anyway. It will significantly limit your everyday life and your ability to perform a job within a german-speaking country. If you plan on staying to work, it will pay off in spades to invest in your language learning.
yeah, plus I think the experience would be miles better if you learn deutsch if you plan on settling there
I took part in an international program during my first two years here, and the people who failed to make progress on that front dropped fairly quickly and were much more miserable living here.
yeah I think its like a first requirement if you wanna live in deutschland
its not that hard if you're naively english, plus how the hell you gon date someone if you cant speak their language
For some it can be hard (me lol) but persevere and it is probably worth it đ
yeah fam, I got more friends in germany than my home country now, plus its the only decent country available to immigrate right now
did you get a job there now?
no, I am going into another degree. Professional student.
However, I would have gotten a job. I received offers while finishing my master arbeit
I'm doing business administration and planning on a masters in finance, marketing or IB
you think i could find a job by the end of it? if i work my ass off
ps im not white
I have absolutely no clue.
True. IT related jobs such as software development doesnât require German for the companies that say so. Theyâre mainly the bigger companies that allow this.
Source: I work as a Web Developer in Hamburg with 0 German required at work. Currently learning German because itâs past time for me.
However, if you are in the IT sector and proficient with German you can also apply to the mega Corps like Volkswagen or Daimler. Their job ads are usually written in German. So, it probably means that the workplace language there is German.
OH I regret not studying tech related stuff soo much
it's soo easy to immigrate acorss the globe with IT qualifications
Yes. Thatâs true. In Germany, the demand for IT related jobs are VERY HIGH.
I mean of course it depends whether you also have the passport that allows you to go to the country without issues. Companies will generally favour people that donât require work visas to move to the country that the company is based in.
Itâs not too late. Personally, I cannot speak for myself since I did Bachelors in computer science and followed that route. However, I have read stories about non IT people transitioning to IT related jobs by learning after or even during work. Or even quitting their jobs to participate in bootcamps or learn on their own in an intense schedule. Your mileage may vary. But when it works, it really pays off.
Many companies nowadays donât require computer science degrees. HOWEVER, they substitute that requirement with either work experience or expertise in the field.
I'm planning a masters in finance so I'm hoping to take the data scientist/ analyst route. hopefully that helps out
because i really love germany and the friend circle i have there
Great choice! Good luck with it!
thanks homie
Most data scientists have studied / have their PhD in Math/Physics/Statistics. Msc in finance would be a bit unusual
hmmmm thats something I need to consider then
hello guys
If no one is here right now, you can also ask in #general . Maybe there's someone there who can answer your question.
Do you guys have suggestions for any sort of hobby groups I can join in germany? I'm looking to immerse myself in the language and get used to speaking to germans/people fluent in the language
Preferably nothing that requires a lot of spending or sport (unless people who completely suck at it are also welcome
)
Preferably something you enjoy doing, I guess
Do you like chess?
Helloos people living in Germany!
I'm trying to find out whether honey would be a good gift for my bf and his family in Germany.
- Do you check the origin of your honey? If you do, where is your honey from?
- Where do you buy your honey?
- How much do you pay for it? (per 500g)
- not really đ
- in the supermarket
- around 4 Euro
4 euros for 500g?
yeah đ€
- yes
- in the supermarket
- depends
Where is your honey from?
from beekeepers in the area
Do you guys know, if students studying at a university in Germany, get some classes to study German ?
@rapid latch It depends on the university but most have language courses for many different languages including German. Not to mention that most universities have courses completely in English
no i meant like would a student get classes to study the German language alongside their normal coursework ?
like for example A1 German
I can only speak from experience but my university does offer voluntary classes for German
@rapid latch
So how did you manage ? Did you sign up for a German language course in a private school or something else ?
No the uni offers the courses
look, for example at the LMU in munich: https://www.lmu.de/en/study/degree-students/learning-german/index.html
oh fuck my bad
i misread your answer
The uni I am looking at however doesn't offer anything from the looks of it
you should look for separate location to learn German. you should probably be able to find one on google simply by searching for "learn german (city)"
That much I know, but the other issue is which ones are good ?
the local Volkshochschule will offer German courses
depending on the level theres a fee but its not much, they might even waive it if you ask
danke @maiden garnet and @olive summit
i only know of inlingua but you should also look at ArtAttack's suggestion
will do thanks
I do but I'm a complete beginner đ
Well maybe you can find chess clubs
Google maps?
I'm considering saving up a safety net then just moving to a relatively cheap city in Germany (thinking Leipzig?) to work and live for a year or so. I'd aim to get a job as a waiter, maybe, since I don't really have any career-oriented skills. Anyone here done something like this? Would this be called a working holiday?
Hello! As part of my residence permit application I must submit a "business plan" or GeschÀftskonzept. My issue is that while I have started learning German this is FAR beyond my level and so I've needed to rely on a translator. Would anyone be wiling to help me proof read this?
@exotic barn if you prefer bigger cities, TU Berlin is also good
Same question as @exotic barn , but about Austria. What's the best place to study computer science in Austria? (I'm from Serbia, but I also have a Bulgarian citizenship, which means I'm an EU citizen)
but it's definitely more expensive than a small city like Landshut
Austria is TU Wien, obviously, no competition
I m gonna go from tunisia to germany by an agency, they said there are 2 places which are Heidelberg and Berlin
Is Heidelberg cheap?
And are there universities for computer science?
Alright, thanks. Is TU Graz also a good university? A guy I know mentioned it to me about a minute ago
all Technical Universities and many classical Universities offer it
yes
but Wien is the most prestigious one in Austria and also known in Germany
And is it true that if i don't have B1 at least, universities won't accept me
like i can't live and study there
Hmm yeah, I understand. Thx
there are also IT programmes in English
but you need to do a test
Oh, and in heidelberg how much do i need monthly there as an average when i m not from europe
one problem though: entrance exam is in German
I don't think all unis in Austria have an entrance exam for IT, but Wien definitely does
just go on their website, everything is also written in English
500 - 700 âŹ
I would guess
obviously you need a part-time job or apply at a Stiftung
Oh i can't do part time jobs
some Uni-Stiftungen also offer money for talented foreign students
I need to get 1 year there when i m studying the language since i m not from europe
studienkolleg probably
but I don't know about that whole process
I'm not a lawyer
you will however need to prove some amount, usually at least 10,000-11,000⏠euros (what the law says is the minimum for a year) for your resident permit at the start of your study, assuming you're not EU.
dayum, EU kinda harsh
it's 10,300 euro
and people say we just let anyone in lol
No problem, my German is good enough for that, I'm talking in English in this channel because everyone is speaking in English here
great, the website also has some study material for the next round of exams
good luck until then!
precisely. You can talk to the international office/an advisor. I never actually had to open a blocked account (Sperrkonto) and have always been able to just show normal bank statements.
Oh great, thanks
Wait, is there an entrance exam for Master's Studies? Because I'm already doing my Bachelor in Belgrade, so I was planning to do my Master's in Austria
Not advice per se, because I don't want to steer anyone down the wrong path, but avoiding the shit with the Deutsche Bank, which is a giant pain in the ass, may be worth looking into.
Not sure, there are a lot of Masters' programmes for IT
I suggest you just see it for yourself
Alright, yeah, it's probably better to look for the info on the official website
Thank you
germany has a progressive tax system. That means it will 1) depend how much you make and 2) the highest tax bracket will only apply to your income above the baseline amount of that bracket.
Kostenloser Download: Einkommensteuertabellen (Grundtabelle + Splittingtabelle).
obviously anything related to finances affects living, but keep in mind that the tax levels in Germany are not meant to (and in practice do not) throw average earners into poverty. The standard of living in the country is comparatively high. That said, not the best country to become a billionaire in (in my opinion).
Ah i understand now

hey lads so im from india and im in 10th grade rn so after 2 years when complete my highschool, i plan to study i germany. i wanted to be a chartered accountant from a long time and i think germany can be a place for me. but tbh i dont rlly know how to be a CA there. ive googled, and tried finding everywhere i could but i havent had much luck finding to how to be a CA after completing our high school. can somebody help me with that? and yeh is it compulsory to hv maths as ur subject for becoming a CA?
Whats a ca?
Chartered Accountant

Theses this site for checking if your high school certificate is as needed
yeh i checked it but i didnt get the answer of how actually u apply for any entrance exams, any other exams and stuff coz here in india weve to receive a permission from the national board or smtg so i wants to know whats the procedure in germany for this
What are some recommended fields of study for business graduates who are looking to pursue a master's degree in Germany, based on the job market?
Hi folks, can I have someone's opinion, I'm hoping to do my placement year (gap in my university degree to work for a company) in Vienna, any recommendations for getting an IT job for a year for a student in Vienna? I'm from NI, UK đ
Check stepstone.de or similar websites. I think some people have unrealistic expectation of the employability of some degrees.
Can't you just apply for long-term internships? Like the 6-month to 1-year ones. Or even several 3-month ones.
unfortunately they have to be 5months+ so I could look for 6 month ones
if your german is only at A, it might be a bit of a struggle finding stuff. but linkedin, campusjaeger, etc would be good places to start. there's also IAESTE / AIESEC who offer longer-term internships although the pay is usually a bit poorer
i did a 6-month placement in germany but it really helped that i spoke german
thank you man, I'm really gonna start ramping up my german learning to try and become conversationally fluent in the next 6 months
is there snow in Germany?
Sometimes
only in certain area or in most of the country?
I heard that Germany is very cold
or at least very cold compare to my country
most of the country has maybe a week of light snow in a year, but in the mountains there can be snow for up to 3 months.
where i live summers are hot winters are cold
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Köln#Geographische_Lage_und_Klima just as an example for temperatures
last winter there was a freak blizzard in the north sometime around Feburary but we usually dont get that
today we had 17 C° so i would say its not cold and not warm for germany
How about in winter?
You will be lucky to have snow
What's the average temperature? I live in a tropical country so I think I should be aware of the weather there
17 degree Celsius is already super cold here
That's probably not good
yeah no it isn't
2014 was also the last year I had serious snow
Worst part is probably the lack of AC
What's the highest temperature in Germany last year?
somewhere around 40
i mean that happens when it's not very cold
it get's slippery when water refreezes
so around -3, -2
Guess I'll have to be aware of that
(but that was during a heatwave)
sometimes we dont have snow the whole winter but low temperatures
if you are interested : https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/5564/umfrage/monatliche-durchschnittstemperatur-in-deutschland/
I'm gonna need a lot of time adapting with the climate
since my climate is the exact opposite
no i would say its okay i mean the optimal temperatur for me is 21 C° , so i would wear like a pollover and a jacket in January
so what's the average "perfect" temperature in Germany?
and in the morning in the september i wear a not thick jacket and a t shirt or pullover
16C° - 22 C°
for me
that's pretty good
for University, would you recommend the dorm or rent an apartment alone?
doesn't this depend on the region, though? đ€
i'm fairly sure we got down to colder than that this winter where i was living (BW)
and very heavy snow
yes we had 2020 -8 C° in october
the dorm is clearly cheaper but to my understanding, not the most private or clean place
Oh i understand
so it also depends on the region because if you want one in the city it will be much more exspensive
i dont know i am 15 sry
bruh same
germany is very exspensive with living
Hello! So I have a complicated question, I would appreciate a lot if someone can correctly answer it! I'm currently studying in the last year of High School of Brazil, yes I was born here, but, although being Brazilian I also have German Citizenship. As said before I am so close from entering University, and I want to use this Citizenship of mine to enroll in a German University. Does anyone knows what are the steps that I need to take, I've researched, and found out some tips about international students, but none for "Germans" that didn't complete High School in Germany. Sorry for the trouble!
as far as i know, the first step would have to be to verify whether your high school degree counts as the same as the Abitur, and you would also need to prove German language skills at a level sufficiently high for the school (normally C1 on the CEFR scale). I think for the most part you would be considered international where education and language is most important, and your German citizenship comes in most handy for things that would otherwise require you to have a visa.
Hello, I got a job offer from Offenbach am main
looking for housing but as a single person I would like to know which city/town is best to stay in
@junior tiger Everything Delta said is generally correct, but I will give you some personal advice having been in similar situation (born/grew up in the US with dual citizenship, moved to Germany).
You're already in your last year of high school, and C1 or higher will be difficult to reach within the next year, plus you have to still take the language test, get the results, etc. I think that's pretty unrealistic (assuming your current level is A). But with citizenship, nothing is stopping you from going to Germany after you graduate anyway, in order to improve your language skills much more rapidly than what you could do at home.
You could live here, do a year or two of preparatory language courses, immerse yourself and improve your German. You might have to do this anyway if your high school diploma isn't equivalent to the German Abitur.
You'll only need financial support for a few months while you work on getting a job here. My most wild suggestion would be to join the German military and do a year of voluntary service. I did this with my shit German when I moved over and came out of it significantly improved, especially when under stress/pressure. The money you get is quite good too, 1500-2000 euros a month after taxes, and it was overall a very fun challenging experience. It's nothing like the US military, much more relaxed, even in basic training the Ausbilder will rarely raise their voices. Lots of other perks like healthcare, unlimited free train travel (in uniform), improve your fitness, and so on.
Anyway hope this helps, feel free to dm me any questions
Unlikely that you find someone here who lives in the exact area and can give you such information. Best to just open google maps, look at train connections between where your job is and neighboring villages/towns, look for apartments in those that have good connections, etc.
I am not looking for exact match so more like suggestion, Offenbach is where HQ is nearby towns are Frankfurt and Darmstadt etc
not just transport but quality of life suggestions also
I don't want to live in some kind of ghost town
I thought Frankfurt is huge city so hoped to find someone with information
Maybe ask in general or only-german if anyone lives in Frankfurt because this channel isn't really looked at very often by most people.
yea i asked there and they told me to use this channel so
getting tossed around sorry
@fiery cedar Just ask a few times a day there in chat if anyone is from Frankfurt. Also try searching Frankfurt in the chat logs and seeing if anyone says they're from there. Did a search just now and there were a few people I saw you could prob ping or dm to help you.
okay danke
you mean your job is in Offenbach?
I would recommend staying there then. It is much cheaper than Frankfurt. Many people who work in Frankfurt choose to live in Offenbach.
and commute into the city
Yes job is in Offenbach
What about Darmstadt?
Will it be too hard to commute?
how much commute is too much for you? You can check the connections with deutsche bahn website (https://www.bahn.de/angebot ) or the RMV app.
from Darmstadt Hbf to Offenbach Hbf you're looking at 35-60 minutes
Frankfurt--Offenbach is approx. 15 minutes with the S-Bahn
seems like i should stay in Offenbach also
I had relatives in Darmstadt so that was in my bucket
but going to cross its name
my job offers monthly train ticket thats going to waste if i stay in offenbach
yeah, I mean it just matters what things are important to you. If you aren't the type who can be happy spending an hour or more each day in a train, then you should try to optimise your search to the Offenbach-Frankfurt area. If money is a big issue, the further you get from the city center(s), the cheaper the flats will get--and Offenbach is cheaper than Frankfurt. If you want to live close to family and don't mind a bit of train for work, then Darmstadt may be good.
Have you looked into Hanau?
no
I was as well taking another suggestions
I will check it out
I am used to long commuting, well first month I will stay in company's hotel
seems like i am going to experience stuff myself there
Vielleicht beatwortet jemanden hier meine Frage.
how much harder would you have to find a new job if in one of the companies you worked with, you got some HR complaint (justified or not) in Austria?
Hey guys
My visa processing is concluded, haven't yet picked the visa from the embassy, but due to unfortunate circumstances I might not be able to go to Germany this semester. Can I apply next semester with new admission?
sounds like a question for your university, i imagine deferment should be possible
Oh let me check if there's information on their website
question can i obtain german citizienship from my cousin?
What do you mean by "from my cousin"? He/she will give it to you? If you deserve one because he/she is your cousin?
my cousin is currently a german citizen
I'm pretty sure you cannot gain a German citizenship just because your cousin has a German citizenship.
i don't know of any countries where you'd get accelerated citizenship just because your cousin has it
it's really only getting it passed down from parents / grandparents
maybe there's a visa option if you're dependent on them, but even then...
what about my sister?
Are any of your parents German citizens? If not then, no.
which of those 3 towns better to live in for cheap and best life balance
frankfurt/darmstadt/offenbach
By life balance do you mean work/life balance? If so, that depends on each companyâs policies and not the city itself.
And Frankfurt am Main is not cheap to live in AFAIK. Many people live outside of Frankfurt am Main.
Sorry guys may i ask abt driver licenses in germany? How much do they cost to make, and is the process long? Im currently 19 and looking forward to move there and buy a sport bike, are there any regulations that i have to know about?
Driver's licenses in Germany are very expensive, around 2500⏠and you could do it in a few months. For a bike you probably should have reflectors and a functioning light
Jeez! 2500âŹ! Why is it so expensive
It's preventive. If you learn how to drive when you begin you won't have to pay for the cost of possible mistakes later. You have to learn quite a bit of theory and drive well before you can pass
Im Australia its like $50 a class. Thats like âŹ25. Our death toll on the road is... decent
To be fair we do entrust our drivers to drive at speeds of 200 km/h after they're finished
Just the way it is
Do you have to learn manual? Because that is probably the hardest challenge and ramps up the learning curve for beginners
Also our licenses don't expire
True
Im going to get my license in manual
bruhh thats so good
How much does your license cost in total?
Really? Iâve got the Greek driverâs license which is valid in the whole EU and I have to renew it every 15 years. I guess thatâs the case for German driverâs license too? I mean in a sense it does expire. I also donât know if you have to take a test of some sort to be able to renew it.
Unless you happen to have the older versions which expire after 30-40 years IIRC.
Yeah true I forgot about that, but it only costs like 20 bucks to renew it which is better than paying for it every year
If you happen to live in an EU country where the driverâs license is cheap, Iâd go for that because driver licenses from EU are valid in Germany and in every EU Country. I am not sure about all of Europe. I paid around 600 euros overall to get my Greek driverâs license. And I donât have to take the German driverâs license again.
That seems kinda complicated ngl
If you already live in Germany ofc
Actually I'm not even sure if you can do it unless you live there
Yeah. For sure. If you are already in Germany, then taking the German license is the way to go.
In my case, I got my license before even moving here.
Yeah ofc if you live in the EU it's chill
Glad i was able to convert my foreign one đŒ
I'm considering getting mine, just gotta get a bit better at German first. Is there a theory test to go with it?
Yes, there is a theory test, but your driving school will give you access to an app where you can study all possible questions
You'll also have to attend 14 mandatory double lessons, each taking 90 minutes, at the driving school
Thanks đ Very similar to Norway then
If you have a norwegian license it should allow you to drive in Germany
I don't sadly đ
rip
Servus,
hey everyone , I hope you are all doing great
I'm second year in dental medicine and I want to complete my studies their in germany, is it possible ? or should I start from the beginning ? (ps: I'm not a eu-citizen)
thanks for your time
Hey again
Any information on this?
Some degrees start in the winter semester (Autumn + Winter) while others start in the summer semester (Spring + Summer). You gotta check if you can start your degree in both
I'm not sure, but it surely depends on which country you're from. https://www.mawista.com/en/blog/studying-in-germany/most-asked-questions-about-studying-in-germany/ This is an article I found but I'm not sure whether it answers your question
You'll definetly have to do some kind of assessment
hi, How can i immigrate to Germany? let me mention i just get my diploma so i just started University, do you know any way that could be useful and easy for me?
What kind of diploma did you get? Is that High school diploma? Did you start in a public/private University?
Are you from an EU country or not?
If you are from an EU country, immigration is painless. If not, you'll have to deal with a lot of paperwork.
hight school diploma, and i live in Iran.
and my University is govermental i think you call it public, those types that goverment pays for you
and i have some other degress besides school degrees
and my major is programming
What's the name of the university? Generally, public universities are approved by Germany for someone to get a blue card (work visa).
Enghelab-e Eslami Technical College
name of the University
https://anabin.kmk.org/no_cache/filter/institutionen.html This website can tell you whether your university is approved by the German government or not. I cannot find the college that you wrote.
thx Sir, i really appreciate it
and by the way some of my relatives live there
is it useful?
or beneficial
for moving to Germany
hmmm, I don't know about that. I do know that someone who has migrated to Germany can bring direct relatives. By direct relatives, that means wife/husband and children.
nope i am not the one
In any case. I also majored in Computer Science.
could you search my University name because the website is German đ
that is great
and i have to say i have made some Games and Apps for android as well
I got a Bachelor's and applied to a German company.
The 2 most important things are
- degree from a university which is approved by the German government
- work contract
and let me mention that i do not know Germany
would be a troublesome for immigrating?
I didn't know German either. I ended up in an international company.
or as you said getting blue card
I'm here for 3 years now and I started learning the language last month.
i like to learn it there it would be much easier
gj
German is not required if you work in the IT sector and the company's main language is English
Sir, could you search it for me?
Thx God đ
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EnghelÄb-e_EslÄmi_Technical_College
for more info you can read about it in Wikipedia
Does your college belong under Technical and Vocational University?
You can translate the website to English with Google Chrome.
i think so
why you ask? is it good or bad?
what is this?
it was in Wikipedia
If it is, then your degree is approved by Germany for a visa
It has to do with this sentence Since the Technical and Vocational University has been developing its relationships with international universities and internal companies, the college was visited by IKKE Universitet, IPB and Leipzig University, and some more internal corporations and companies such as Iran Khodro.
but i do not have there degrees
i just Start studing there
Then you need to get the degree
can not i somehow Transfer or idk another way
because i need to study about 2 years to get a degree
You have the other option to apply to a German university. I have 0 clue about the process of this since I have never done it.
2 years for Associate Degree
It took me 6 years to get mine. Well should have been 4 but I was lazy back then.
I also think that you can apply for a work visa IF you have 5 years (I think) of professional work experience
i am 18 years old so basically such a thing is rare
so my University is vaild, right?
Well, then the degree is your best bet.
I would say yes but I would ask a German consulate/embassy just to be sure
then what they ask for?
thx Sir đ
after degree what they need?
should i have Ielts?
what's that?
or just the University degree is enough?
English degree
IELTS
Sir can we Continue our discussion in pv?
Main things if you apply to an international company (English speaking)
- valid passport
- university degree approved by the German government, translated to German with an Apostille convention (you'll know about this once you start the application process)
- work contract from the German company
- good to great English
I'd like to talk here since it might help others too.
If you have super private info then yes, you can ask me there.
not super private, i just wanted to be in Touch with you
honstly, you have a useful info
and you helped me alot
and i will not forget it
Yeah, sure thing. I accepted your friend request đ
hi
So, it turns out, the person wants to study in a German university. Anyone who has experience about it can try helping because I have 0 clue about it. đ
you can certainly apply to do a degree in germany. but you'd likely need to do a year at a studienkolleg and you might struggle to find your degree in english. and there is also the question of having enough funding to get a visa etc. there's a guide on studying in germany here: https://old.reddit.com/r/germany/wiki/studying
r/germany: English-language discussions and news relating to Germany and German culture.
thx
A few questions if it's not too much of a bother. I was told Berlin is a really bad city to study in, why is that? Which cities are considered better for this? And is it true that language classes are free for international students? I vaguely remember hearing something like that but it might have been regarding benefits for those who took the effort to learn.
hallo menschen wie geht es euch?
Iâm American, I donât know why people think Berlin is a bad city to study in, however I have looked into Leipzig and it is very cheap and it has many things going for it so I would suggest you look at it too. Price for language classes depend on the institution providing them. Some are free, some charge a fee
@drifting cape have you stuffed in Germany before?
I hear the social life is bad for international students if they start with a bachelors so am worried
Nope, just getting this from various sites and friends
Ahh I see
I donât imagine it would be terrible, Iâm sure you could find someone to befriend
Thereâs Facebook groups for international students and things
I know Leipzig has very vibrant nightlife, lots of clubs and things if youâre into that sort of thing
Thanks very much for the advice, I'll look into it
@gloomy current and when I say cheap, itâs really cheap. Prices for housing is like half of what it is in western Germany
Thatâs the main reason Iâm considering it
I donât want to waste money if I donât have to
Lmao we're of the same mind then
It was really shocking to see how cheap things were in Germany as an American
Youâd think it would be expensive
The big cities are hella expensive tbh, even my city is expensive (because of a local car manufacturer) even though it's pretty small
Anyone has recommendations for studying MSc or MA in business administration?
I mean overall
Overall cost of living is relatively cheap
Which cities are the cheapest?
large urban centers will obviously cost more, causing you to widen your search to neighboring towns for affordable housing. Generally speaking, the south tends to be more expensive than the north and east though.
I'd personally suggest Hannover, but I don't know if it fits you
That could be anything. Aachen is known to be rather cheap.
Look for universities that have the degree program you want and then find cheap cities around them
Thatâs what I did
Hi guys, i have a question. I'm gonna be going to germany for studies and need to do a covid test. I thought i have to do the pcr one, but it turns out the antigen one is accaptable as well. Is this true? Just wanna confirm.
if only there were a convenient government website that answered this question
https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/einreiseundaufenthalt/EinreiseUndAufenthalt
Yea, some people and websites say i can just do the antigen one and some people say i can't
So not sure
then why not trust the official german government website?
Just wanna make sure in case there're some changes or if any1 had some experiences in it
Ok so the government website, which is the official reference, tells you that
If there were changes theyâd be reflected on the website
In Germany, antigen and PCR tests are valued the same, pretty much, in every case
But just so you know if you're gonna study you'll have to do antigen tests regularly to attend classes
or alternatively get vaccinated
Oh yeah, about vaccines, for example, if someone got vaccinated with the Chinese vaccine (Sinopharm) in another country, will they consider it valid? Or just the vaccines recognized by the EMA?
I think neither Sinopharm nor Sputnik are accepted yet
Oh well
Actually
As European countries have started to open for tourists all over the world, most of them have decided to impose vaccination requirements in order to facilitate travel as well as protect public health. Even though each country decides itself regarding vaccination requirements, a total of 29 EU and EEA countries recognise all the vaccines that [âŠ]
Only Austria recognizes Sinopharm
Actually Switzerland too
Out of the German speaking countries
Yeah I just read the article. That's good news for me since I want to get my master's degree in Austria, but not for my friend who wants to go to Germany, who I was asking for
Actually you should read up on it since the article is mainly about travelling, not staying in the country
Hmm yeah, I'll read about that. Also, I assume that the COVID rules about traveling and entering the country are a bit more relaxed if an EU citizen travels there (for example, I have a dual citizenship, Serbian and Bulgarian)
As for Austria, even though the country recognizes Sinopharm as a valid proof of immunity, the authorities have noted that travelers vaccinated with the shot are not allowed to enter hotels, restaurants, or access other services while in the country.
I don't get your issue
"how do you fill this place, if you are going to apply for blue card"
I don't have "to" aslong as I am employed I could stay forever
what do you type here
I dunno. I've never filled it. I'd put for a long long time. Give or take, 5 years?
Does your contract have an end date?
no
HmâŠmost work contracts do have a time span I thought. have you already been living in Germany for a long time?
Just trying to figure out how youâll be applying for a blue card as opposed to a work visa
nah I never been to any DACH countries before
You should probably read up on this in more detail. But on the government website it says that the blue card is 4 year duration? So perhaps 4 years.
well then I should be applying for short visa then convert it to blue card
You should just check. As long as you have a job and are a college graduate and meet the income requirements a blue card makes sense. But it is not âunlimitedâ it would have to be renewed or changed to a permanent residence permit
What form is it?
Okay, so are you applying for a type D schengen visa?
well I don't know types of visas
just following this guide
german at page 3
I am just trying to do it myself but looks like i will need some experienced assistance đ
Non expert opinion: if youâre applying for a blue card and plan on staying forever and your contract has no end date, then 4 years is the max before renewal. I would write four years
I would assume ticking this "yes" disables that field, could be wrong though
hello is anyone here from India under the Kolkatta jurisdiction who applied for a national student visa via VFS global?
am I eligible to apply for Stipendium fĂŒr BedĂŒrftige when i already have money in my blocked account? some require income of my parents to apply though.
Does anyone know if my prepaid vodafone 4g sim that i stopped using since 2019 would still be usable when i return to Germany?
okay i have a question, is it possible to buy a sim card from somewhere in Europe where there are better internet rates than Germany. I literally pay like 10 euros a month for a couple of gigs, I know in Italy they pay like 7 euros for like 50 gigs of data soo any ideas?
In practice, you'd get hit by roaming charges and it probably wouldn't be worth it. The no roaming in the EU thing only applies if you have a residence in the country where your provider is and the majority of your traffic happens there.
sooo there is no way at all, not even unlawfully? all I'm asking is if there is a way, explaining how would be great but I just need to know if i need to bother looking for one
its going to be a way that i will, for legal reasons, not do because its against the law of course
i wouldn't bother. i tried looking into this but providers base your 'roaming' on which towers your phone connects to. if your italian provider sees you're only using data in germany they'll say "oh, you're abroad now, this comes out of your roaming rate" and you'll have a much lower roaming allowance than 'home' allowance
e.g. you get a 10gb cntract but that only covers 1gb roaming
thats honestly so sad
okay do you know of any plans that are time based and not like a certain allowance of gigabytes
ive always had the Alditalk jahrespaket but its only 12gb per year
but only 60 euros for a whole year is the cheapest
Does governmental health insurance cover free medication?
do you mean the state health insurers?
you pay ~10% of the cost of the medication, iirc minimum 5 eur maximum 10 eur
Thanks
Hey all, a question. So when I rent a WG room from someone, either sublet or long-term, can I expect that my room will have a key? If it doesn't, would it be unreasonable from me to ask for one?
It wouldn't be unreasonable, since you don't want any of your stuff to get stolen I guess
Hahah yeah i mean idk i've never lived with roommates before so i didnt know genuinely
Esp for germany
Iirc the WGs Iâve lived in technically had old keys for the keyholes in the doors. But no one ever locked anything other than the bathroom when using it. Most WGs (outside of cold Zweck-WGs) are a bit more cooperative and friendly than your average ârandom roommate who pays half the rentâ situation. If you feel like your WG mates are going to steal from you, it may be advisable to find a new WG đ
Okay, maybe true
Hey, has anyone gone through the uni assist procedure for applying to universities, especially TUM.?
anyone know much it costs to book a train ticket from Berlin to Hamburg on a weekend?
it varies according to when and how far out you're booking. If price is a major concern, consider checking Flixbus and Mitfahrgelegenheiten
hello,Im a computer sience student from Algeria and I am currently learning german(I didn't finish A1 level yet),I wondered if it was possible for me to learn until B1,then get a university approval from germany to study the left levels of german I need in the summer semester inorder to persuit studying computer sience in the winter semester(in germany),does anyone know if thats possible?and if it is would it cost above 20k euro?
Won't it be cheaper to just learn German in Algeria and apply for next year's intake?
And I'm not sure your exact case.
Starting a bachelor degree, transferring mid-bachelor, or doing a master in Germany.
trying to do a master(then a bachelor),the things is that im trying to continue studying in germany before I reach second year of my master(im starting first year next week)because if I reach second year here in Algeria I will have to pass an exam where the first 70% are accepted and the other 30% are sent to a worse university, the reason Im trying to avoid this exam is because people bribe the professors for better grades, which is a thing that I don't want to do for religious/ethical reasons.
this is very confusing. In Germany, you do a master after a bachelors degree.
oh,in algeria we study in french so I head to google thingies and I think made it wrong somewhere, anyways next week im starting my first ever year of university
Oh french system.
You want to do your second master year in Germany.
You do realize not everyone is using the same system, right?
At least that what I got from you. The M1 M2 system like in France.
Transferring mid-master is not impossible. But most likely you won't be able to transfer the credits.
You can do the whole duration of your masters in computer science in a German university. I know a former colleague who did this. He ended up in the Technical University of Hamburg and his curriculum was all in English.
Hello, does anyone know what type of visa is required to enter Germany, if one wants to take a dual studium programme?
Where do you come from?
hello everyone, my question may not related to study visa, but idk where to ask... since i will come to germany under working holiday, i wonder anyone did the same recently? i wanna know if one-way ticket is okay
I am from Indonesia
Is there a good chain for kitchen GerÀte in Germany? Not a brand, but a shop
Want to buy a mini Backofen but the ones on amazon look really sketchy
Saturn? Mediamarkt?
I have Saturn on my list to check out, thanks! đ I checked Mediamarkt but the selection was sadly not great for what I was after
geizhalz.de is also worth checking out and idealo.de
Thanks đ

to anyone looking to learn about what life was like during you know....theres a great book called the children of wildesn lane if you like long books id buy the red one and if you like short books id buy the one with a white color, the best part is its pg friendly
is true that if you fail your final exam in germany, you won't get to repeat the year or like get another chance?
no đ not true
in school: yes you need to repeat the whole year. In university: there are no fixed curricula so you can re-take the exam whenever. However there are certain courses where you must pass within 3-4 tries otherwise you cannot continue your studies at your university or at other universities. You can switch bachelor/master field though.
Is "mit herzlichen GrĂŒĂen" too formal if I'm inquiring about an apartment to someone who's young, my age etc.
no one will be angry if you use it, but most of the time people close those sorts of messages with 'liebe GrĂŒĂe' or 'mit freundlichen GrĂŒĂen'
i dont see the huge difference between herzlichen and freundlichen but okay i will remember that đ

I see often offers for renting a place but you can't have pets and some even specifically state about dogs, should I avoid such offers at all cost?
...do you have a dog?
no
then why would it matter to you whether or not you can keep pets in the apartment?
dogs are mostly guarding pets, if you live alone they can come in handy
but you do not have one
yes because i have no space for such one here
comprehensive guide: if you plan on keeping a pet, avoid apartments that don't allow pets. If you don't keep pets and don't like pets, set your sights on apartments that don't allow pets. If you don't keep pets but like seeing dogs in your neighbour's flat, then apply at an apartment where they're allowed.
my concerns are about people that ban pets and specifically dogs in order to commit burglary after you move in
No.
Weâre talking about Germany here. And what an elaborate, stupidly complicated plan that would be.
Especially considering tons of dogs here are sweet house pets. My golden retriever would happily go on a drive with robbers.
uhm
they're not allowing pets because they don't want to deal with prospective filth and damage to their property.
Forgot to meniton I am in Wien in Austria...
one thing every dog is: dirty
not every btw
Wien is even more bougie than most of Germany.
depends if owner keeps it clean
a 'clean' dog tracks in filth from outside everytime you come in from a walk.
sheds.
unless it's hypoallergenic
just like your shoes xd
has toenails and sharp teeth that can damage the floor
I am explaining to you realistic reasons why people don't allow pets. I am not giving you a how-to guide on keeping a pet. I love dogs, and I care very well for my own, but he is undeniably a dirt and hair machine. I vacuum every day and it's still not enough. And on hardwood or softer types of flooring, he can scratch it. Laminate not so much, but when it rains he schlepps in half a lake, and then you have to worry about water damage.
people who don't allow pets are most likely not trying to scam you out of a guard dog so much as they are trying to minimise their own stress and possible damage to their property.
by allowing pets, you are automatically taking on the risk of damage. A tenant who doesn't take a lot of care, who doesn't clean up enough, doesn't care about the apartment, or lets their cat's litter box stink up the place (soaks into every surface and takes forever to remove)--they're gonna set ya back.
okaz
not to mention that they can chew stuff
our dog used to chew on our dinner table
and most dogs really wont guard at all unless theyre specific breeds
and when u live in an apartment and ur dog keeps barking everyone involved will have a problem
perfectly reasonable to not allow dogs
This means, I have to get a previous B1-Zertifikat, to be able to get another B1-Zertifikat? I'm really confused
I think Studienkolleg is meant to get your german up to scratch/cover any highschool holes. So they ask that people start with at least B1 knowledge
By the end you should be ready for Uni
At least thats what i think theyre there for
Do you intend to retain your permanent residence outside the Federal Republic of Germany?
Hello
Should I write my homeland for this question?
Studienkolleg isn't just language
You need it if you didn't take the right subjects in school or didn't get the right diploma equivalency
Then you pick a corresponding course (if you want to go to medschool, you take the M-Kurs which teaches bio and chem)
T-Kurs is physics, chem, math
etc
they also teach you the language. after that, you take a final exam and you are now eligble to apply for Universities in Germany. it's not direct entry, so you might have to deal with NC
Yeah that too all the school subjects
hello
am new here
i need someone to pracitce german language
i really wanted to learn german .. anyone intrested ?
@flat haven It's best to use #general #general-2 or #beginner-german for that. This channel is for asking questions about living/working/studying in a German-speaking country.
ohh ok
can a European Union citizen study in Germany without having to have a visa?

Is university paid in Austria like Germany?
some unis in germany offer free education in german but in austria every uni demands a payment
