Altpapier yea
ah yes, Obstschalen, the classical Schaumstoff
I Just throw in everything that is neither paper nor food
what does a schaumstoff obstschale look like? 🤔
i only ever see plastic ones
like, transparent plastic
also shame on you dude lol
that's what hausmüll is for
I separate between paper, bio, Restmüll and Gelber Sack.
hat sich eben anders angehört 😄
Tfw your country doesn't separate trash at all /shrug
gut gut!
I heard that there's a bank in germany that collects your small change and exchanges it for bank notes. Which bank does that?
pretty much any bank can do that
Really?
but most banks are reluctant to do that for people who are not members
Oh so if I have a bank account there it's okay?
yeah
Cool thanks
my bank has a coin exchange machine outiside, don’t even have to interact with a human
just drop in money and select what you want
I think
never used it
i've only seen that in one or two really big banks, but it's pretty cool
I saw that machine in some stores too
Do German students have to pay insurance in Germany?
yes
does anyone in germany not have to pay insurance?
not really
in switzerland everyone needs to have one, either directly or through ones parents/guardians
like just some general base insurance stuff like healthcare
Versicherungspflicht
idk what is all included in the mandatory parts
students pay less tho
In czechia you don’t pay until 26yo
Hmmmm, I didn’t look deep into it but i think it should be for everybody 🤔
As a student you don't have to pay for your own insurance because you can still be insured through your parents btw
Familienversicherung in Germany only works for husband/wife and children up to at most 25
Since i never saw “covered by parents’ insurance”, but “the state pays” 🤔
if they are working above... uh 400€ a month? i think you have to pay even though you are under 25
sure
❤ weeeeeee
Are prices not written like €400 ? With the € in front, in german?
Or have I been doing it wrong all this time
not really
The €comes after the price
HLI
informally you can put it wherever you want really
wait that reminds me of an uncertainty I have. Does german use . or , for decimals? 🤔
false
it’s country-dependent, not language
switzerland does it differently from germany
afaik
(here you can use either for decimals, but most use .; for thousands you’re to either put a space or an apostrophe)
(the most common thing I see is 1'234.56)
Here in Germany , is common (at least in my state)
(nonetheless the decimal separator is called komma)
(regardless of how you write it)
actually taht’s only half true
that number above I’d probably name “eintausendzweihundertvierunddreissig punkt fünf sechs”)
but then “nach dem Komma steht eine Fünf”
interesting
We’d write 2,948,949.0084747939
Comma for three digits, and a decimal point (full stop) for the start of a decimal
we = ? 🤔
The English
here it's 2.948.949,0084747939 🤷
Or without the dot in between the positive digit triplets to avoid confusion
yeah that too
though generally, for smaller numbers like 20000, you usually see 20.000
I've rather seen more people just leaving a small space in between them yeah like that luna
i feel like i see the dot more often 🤔 but i have seen it with the space in between
what's this about "kein Schlussstrich"? It's a protest against neo-nazi cell NSU, that much I got, but what's the actual context? And what about Schlussstrich?
eh
it's about not stopping the investigation
since people think the crimes can't possibly have been orchestrated and done by only 3 people
A Schlussstrich is a expression that means "final line". "Kein Schlussstrich" means "Don't draw the final line [to close the investigation]"
Ah okay, so I slightly misunderstood your last question "what about Schlussstrich" 😄
yeah I didn't want to repeat the word "context" for both questions ^^
Can someone explain the video-id process of prepaid Sims to me?
It applies to All prepaid cards, even those purchased in other countries right?
After the call is finished, can I immediately use my sim card?
you have to wait until it's been activated
takes a few hours
but can take up to a few days if you are unlucky
But my Trip is only for a few days...
Do I have to do this in Germany?
Can I do it before I leave, in another country?
you have to do it if you want to use a german sim
should be possible if you have the sim
Hmm I see
Is there a list as to which countries I can authenticate a Vodafone prepaid card in?
Legara has a list, but I cant find one for Vodafone
@fiery edge Did you have English in your A-levels?
A/q to anabin site english is compulsory
I did English at AS-Level
For which course would English be compulsory? Unless you plan on studying in English.. but then any English proficiency test should be enough
If you're a native English speaker I don't think you need any proof of proficiency
@pine rampart
They require english till As level from anabin site
the fourth subject can be english till as level
Ohh right I remember something like that
To study in Germany with A-levels (without doing Studienkolleg) you'd need to have done any language at AS-level atleast
yeah ^^
if you don't mind me asking, what were your grades in A levels?
I don't remember exactly. I think I got A* A A and B (or two Bs and an A)
And B in English at AS
grats, those are some amazing grades
The only reason I got the A* and As was because I had repeated the AS papers that year too lol.
My AS grades the year before were crap
That's a great comeback
So my overall grades would've sucked had I not repeated
Yeah it was stressful though. Had two exams a day twice
Right after the other
So are you gonna do English? (Or have done already?)
Ok I don't like rebuy. They're offering 24 cents for a book .-.
Sell em to me
if they're textbooks sell them to students directly, if you have many set up a stand at the next market (will likely cost money so see if it's worth it)
otherwise idk put them on ebay
So I heard that you can skirt around the video-id process of german prepaid sims by buying one from another eu nation and using its roaming?
Is this true?
@fiery edge ebay?
rebuy is nice if you wanna buy books for cheap but god do they pay you NOTHING for your books, it's absolutely frustrating
🤔
does anybody have an opinion about TU/FU/HU-Berlin?
Specifically about the Informatik Monobachelor
I think those are the 3 I'm going to apply to
how common is the kölsch dialect actually spoken in köln. i was feeling somewhat confident in my ability to last there but then a guy from a town close to it showed me music with the dialect and they may as well have been speaking in a different language
that was one of the songs he showed me @winter niche
at first i was like "hold on my listening isn't so good so i'll put up the lyrics and read along"
then i saw the spelling and im just like
"fuck"
I don't think anyone really speak like this, big citys pretty much lost their dialekts (can only compare with Berlin und "Berlinerisch")
that's a relief
people over 50 really speak like that
my grandparents all spoke that way
You'll hear it a lot around carnival
there is no standardised way to spell most of these dialects so it's a bit hard to communicate with them by text ^^
but there are wikis in german dialects:
https://ksh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripoarisch_(Sprooch)
Why is there a Hiroshima-Nagasaki-Park in Köln?
Oh
How does German insurance work in respect to doctors? By which I mean, how should I find one? Is the channel the same if I need a specialist? How much does the insurance pay, do I have to pay partly by pocket? What about medicines?
to get to most specialists I think you need to be referred to one by a general doctor
and to get a general doctor (hausartzt) just look it up in your town
and if they don't, go to another
yeah
you could call the specialist yourself, but they don't like that
you don't have to pay anything
for any visit
as long as there's a medical reason
medicine depends
and medicines you dont have to pay for the medicine I think but for the container you do sometimes
right?
Ohhhhh
if it's not so important they might partly pay
if it's just luxury, they pay nothing
Is that true for equipment as well? Like I dunno a crutch or something
yes
if you medically need it
they pay
if you don't medically need it
they might partly pay
well
Alright, sounds great.
if you are in public insurance
if you are privately insured
... ask your insurer
they handle it differently
It's an ersatz kasse
then it's fine
you only have to pay for medicine when buying it
a small fee
apothekengebühr or something
the medicine in itself will be free if it's medically important
i think it was 5€
or so
Gotcha
you always need the receipt
if anything is unclear, ask your doc or the secretaries
and if you go to the doc, always have your card with you
But there are also medicines that can be bought without a receipt, yes? What about those?
Even if the doc told me I need it?
then he would have given you a receipt
Right 😅
Do you happen to know how the colors of the receipts work? If I understand it correctly, the red ones are for medicines that the insurer is paying for and the green ones for the ones you have to pay yourself..
and one "luxury" recipe where it's recommened, but you have to pay yourself
yes
and the blue ones you should never see
they are for private insurance
What's the point of printing the green ones then? Just to provide clear information in a standardized form?
what do you mean?
the point of the green ones is so you get the medicine
which you wouldn't otherwise get easily
Am I wrong, that I can buy the "green" medicines without receipt?
eh
My doctor was giving me ones for the medicines that are otherwise freely available
Ach, ok
Awkward question but, how does one approach a doctor once I find one? Can I just go there or is an appointment required? Also since I have to find one myself, is there something people use to find good ones? How easy is it to change it if I don't like how they do their job?
you go there
say
"i want to see the doc"
and you wait
or
you call them
make an appointment
and then go
Yeah, there will be a secretary desk probably
Just call them and ask for an appointment
and you have to wait for a little bit
Or visit them
depends on how big the city is though really, here where I live I dont have to make an appointment
Nice. Yeah I wasn't sure I could just show up unannounced
Mine 7 minutes away, but I usually get an appointment for the next day anyways
Perhaps depends on the number of patients
So what about choosing a doc?
implying I has friends
There are websites with patient's reviews
I wouldn't fully trust them , but may be a good starting point
What do you use?
.<
also, your city may provide a list of doctors available in your area
*general doctors ofc
Ah yeah another question, what about glasses? Same thing as with other stuff we discussed in regards to prices or?
depends on how good you want them
if you want the cheapest
you can get them for basically free
And what about a full cyborg level shite
a few hundred
Alright, seem to be cheaper than in my homeland
Last frage. In case of an emergency, are there any costs associated with calling an ambulance?
Yes but insurance pays
Alright
Well thanks a lot guys
(Can you tell I never had to deal with this before? Xd )
yes

Don't worry @tight kelp , I only started to visit German doctor a few months ago. They're all very nice and helpful, everything will be good! 😃
oh yeah I'm nost scared of that xD
it's just that even back home, my father is a doc so I never had to deal with this ever. I guess that's the downside
when you come home from school do you say 'whats up doc?'
I think its really funny how I (and other people in my class) can hold complex discussions with natives and such things, but we get scared when we do things like order ice cream for the first time
Who else went through the same thing?
I do every time i have to do something
Yeah
i'm more comfortable with debates than with everyday interactions
Anything new is scary to me I think, because I don't know how people 'normally' do it or ask
yeah im the same way
Like of course we can communicate what we want, but its more about not knowing how its normally done, right?
yeah
It happens to me in my mother tongue as well. It perhaps depends if one's used to such situations or not :D
this is perhaps me being a bit paranoid but I have some questions about how not to screw myself over royally with German universities. I got an acceptance letter to my second-choice uni that says I need to confirm by the 30th, and I'm still waiting to hear back from my first choice. Is it wildly inappropriate to email someone from the first choice uni asking when I can expect to hear from them? If I send my confirmation to the second choice and later get accepted to my first choice, am I shit up a creek? (I'm probably overthinking this but I figured asking here might ease my mind).
eh, you probably won't get a nice answer, even if you shoot them an email
they usually will reply "when it's done"
fair enough, that
Have you considered emailing your second choice and seeing if they are okay with you waiting til your first choice replies?
I mean it doesn't hurt to ask them anyway. Just to make sure.
you could also give oolt's advice a try, though
I'm a little more hesitant to email the second choice because I don't wanna screw up that offer before I know I've got another
Yeah, I think it is smarter to talk to the first school since you dont even know if you got it or not, plus maybe consider what really makes that one better
Would they deny you after they already accepted you, just because you asked politely?
What harm could E-Mailing them possible do anyways? If it's just a polite request
I guess you're right; I have a tendency to overthink and catastrophize these things
@humble bough You should pay semester fees of the uni you've been accepted in and then wait. If you get answers from some other more preferred unis, you just refund money.
is it not frowned upon to accept someplace and then later change my mind?
well that is reassuring for sure
At least that's how I'm gonna do it 🤷
You will lose from 10 to 30% of the fees
but I think that's okay
I will do research later today
Since I've encountered the same problem
well, I've got almost two weeks and can accept by fax, so who knows, maybe I'll get my second acceptance before the deadline
yeah
I wouldn't worry til about 2 or 3 days before the deadline
then again it's not like I've gone through this so I don't know
If I applied for a ZF course, does it mean I can either accept or decline their offer until 31. October?
Nvm
I don’t totally know if this is the right chat to ask in but Do y’all have any other tips for german learning resources? I use duolingo and this chat group is helpful but I’m trying to really get into it. I found links to german youtubers with subtitles but none are really topics that interest me and German dubbed Netflix shows are somewhat limited. Other than simply studying quizlets I’m not sure what other things to do
Thank you!! I didn’t realize you could scroll down on the side bar 😂 it’s very helpful thanks!
No problem. Hope you find something that helps. ❤
How do you say "Libtard" in German
unsure if that concept exists in German
political insults in general
aren’t really a thing here, we seem to get along much better
Damn....
Is there any for right wing people at least?
Oh nvm you said in general lol
There is Wütbuger but idk if that counts
Yes
Although it does describe the majority of the AfD in my opinion
aber ich kenn keine pandeutschen begriffe
👌
i mean i'm sure calling someone a trump lover would still be an agreed insult in germany
i could use help with german too i really suck at it 🙃
But i get it when i see people talking
Hallo ich heise Matheus, i mean i dont know how to use that super S too lol idk if its ok to write without that extra letters
i think most will understand if we dont use special latters
standard convention is replace ä/ö/ü/ß with ae/oe/ue/ss
@zinc spear alt+225 on windows
us international layout is a good solution in general and pretty seamless if you're already on a similar layout
if all else fails, there's what Sascha said ^^
alt+225²¢²²¢
you’re not doing it right I think
you have to hold down alt and then type it on the numpad
Damn that's neat. What are the key combinations for the umlauts?
I always had to Google the umlauts and copy paste them when typing something in German 😅
132 for ä
129 for ü
and the wiki page for ö doesn’t list it -.-
there should also be a way to just type the combining umlaut
ö is supposedly 245 but I cant test it cause my numpad is being borked
nvm windows lied to me
trust the allgemein
also like if you’re on an american based layout, just install the american international one
Thanks. Yeah I've tried installing the US international before but I can't seem to get it to work
alright so step one. do you have a little ENG at the bottom right or not
if yes, click that and select language preferences
if no, go to windows settings (search in start bar) and go to time and language
Or just install the german keyboard
okay so that’s already there
I tried the German keyboard as well
do you even want the other one?
Doesn't work
How come it doesn’t work?
I’ll troubleshoot it, but one by one
It was always there lol, so I guess I don't need it
remove the regular US one
Done
now either it just works now, or we’re gonna have to try some stuff
since it’s already been installed, you probably don’t have to restart your pc
(usually you’d have to after installing a new layout)
This is what the language prefs page looks like
If it affects anything...
Ideally I'd want my entire system in German lol
I'll try removing and reinstalling the international keyboard and then restart my system
the language and system thingy shouldn’t affect each other, no
(they do but only through bugs)
(which sometimes add another layout without asking you)
you probably only hadn’t switched to it tbh
I bet hitting alt+shift once would’ve done it
I can type "mit freundlichen Grüßen" so much more efficiently now 😭 😭
Hi, I'm planning a little trip to Europe. I'll land on Frankfurt. What is something really cool to see there in one day?
Thanks in advance for your help 😃
Why are you only there one day :o!
well, I'm going to several places in Europe. I just don't know much about Frankfurt and that's why I'm asking if there's something I shouldn't miss from that City
Is it normal that pizzas aren't sliced when getting home delivery?
I normally do but there are times I forget lol
They don’t slice the pizza? 👀
Ye
Cuz they dont know what religion the buyers are, so they leave it to the customer to decide if they want their Pizza beschnitten or not
@fiery edge yeah. In the pizza country they never do it unless you ask them
Spain does't slice their pizza by default? TIL.
🗡
Freddy Fresh Pizza doesn't either
Why would you order pizza pre-sliced that just makes the oil sog into the cardboard
jsyk soggy is an adjective but sog doesn't exist i believe
it really should exist if it doesn't already
It does exist.
nah seems fine
like if ur in 2018 from 15th century still usin sog
@lament pier that's when the term first started to be used, it doesn't state any expiration date
"bottle" comes from Latin, that doesn't mean that we don't use the word today just because its origins lie thousands of years ago
what's a bottle
kinda random question but: if I'm doing a Master's degree and a form asks if this is my "Erststudium", "Zweitstudium", or "Promotionsstudium", is "Zweitstudium" the right answer because I already did a bachelor's degree and that was my first degree?
pretty sure “Zweitstudium” usually refers to a second degree on a level you already have
so in your case a second bachelor’s
hm that's confusing... they had a whole separate field with whether I had a bachelor's and if I was getting a master's so that seems redundant
Aah, lecker 😋
Dankeee
Lol, so viel haha
Aah, das erklärt es
Am Sonntag wir essen oft deutsche Brötchen
Von die Aldi
Oder manchmal von die Bäckerei
about insurance in germany, i'm not sure if i asked this before but is dentistry included? If so, does that include orthodontics (stuff for braces and the like)?
About dentistry: Yes. Though it is depending on your insurance company, going to the dentist twice a year is possible. Everything above or special treatments are extra if you didn't sign up for an extra insurance.
About orthodontics: Perhaps. Ask your insurance since it is depending on them.
gotcha, thanks
okay so I'm looking for apartment shares in Germany any I keep coming across the term "Zweck-WG" and I'm not 100% clear what it means -- the English version of WG-Gesucht uses "Non-Communal" in its place but I don't really know what that means either. Could anybody shed some light on what this means?
Zweck = purpose, Zweck-WG could be best described as "living together for the purpose of distributing the cost of living in the apartment without any social requirements apart from you paying"
It's a choice for you whether you wish to interact and make friends with your roommates or if all you care about it living there for the shared cost
oh okay
I don't usually see such a distinction made in such listings here in the states, so that makes the ambiguous translation make a little more sense
if it makes you feel better, I’ve never seen that word either
that’d just be like explained in the WG description or sth you ask about when informing yourself
my WG is essentially one of those
I get along with my roommates but they’re ghosts
and so am I though I assume I’m a bit of a louder ghost than them (but the walls are quite thick)
What is the coldest region in Germany? Where has the coldest winters and summers
Sylt probably? :P
lol, how about mainland German :p
that I wouldn’t know
looks like right at the southern border
though actually that may be mountaintops
looking at the map
I was figuring the south would be colder due to being closer to the alps but I wasn't ure
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kühnhaide_(Marienberg) this here seems to be the coldest permanently inhabited place
according to some googling
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberstdorf#Klimatabelle this looks like a nice place too
Thank you
Helllo everyone. I'm a medical student from Turkey and I'd like to learn more about working as a doctor for my specialty. After graduating, I want to specialize in Medical Genetics in Germany, the university doesn't matter all that much. How/where can I find more information?
Btw my German isn't good enough to navigate around German websites, so all English help will be appreciated
University of Lübeck looks nice since it's a university dedicated just for scientific research.
So in Germany students get an ermäßigt rate in museums, but does this discount apply to students not studying in Germany?
likely not but the only way to find out is to try
i think it does but you gotta have some student id
Hmm I see
@whole pecan yes it does and i even didnt have to prove it sometimes
are you a student?
ye (i wasnt)
cool take this off
Oh cool
There is an international Student ID, called ISIC. Ask your university to get you this card if you haven't any other proof of being a student 😉
Do we have somebody here who studies in Berlin?
I think foxxo wanted to iirc?
@humble bough is going to technically-not-berlin
I mean "studies" is a bit generous as I got accepted like a week ago and have not visited Germany yet but it'll be true soon enough XD
i think foxxo is going to aachen
foxxo goes to aachen yep
Ive heard so too
Only memes go to school in Canada.
Oh good luck foxxo!!
excuse me
you know your a meme bro
i just heard some German farmers interviewed on the news and i was rather surprised to hear how clean their German was. This is bound to sound a little classist or elitist, sorry, but i'm used to farmers having a much closer connection with local languages than to the common national one. I don't really have a point or question, just felt like saying this kbye
yeah admittedly my sample size isn't very large ^^
I mean farmers are just more likely to speak the local (likely moribund) dialect
there's no such thing as working on a farm making your speech go weird
also I assume in Germany as much as in Switzerland, farmers still have to be decently well educated
at least enough to get through high school and get a driver's license (though the one for farm equipment is easier to get), and probably a bunch of licence stuff for lifestock handling too
there's no such thing as working on a farm making your speech go weird
i never thought nor said that :P
but in my country it's really unlikely to hear farmers use "clean" national language, if they even try
good
but i guess it shouldn't surprise me that Italian regional languages are stronger than German ones, given the weight of Hochdeutsch pressing against those
from my experience all dialects except the ones in the south might as well be extinct, no one would notice and a bunch would celebrate it
e.g. while some claim that Plattdeutsch is still doing okay, no one from those regions I've ever met spoke it
same with just about any other region of germany, though of course my sample size is somewhat limited
the only exceptions were Bavaria, and to a lesser extent Swabia. And even in Austria they're not exactly doing well
in Kärnten, which for some reason is where everyone I ever met from Austria is from, dialects seem to have become low-prestige
My aunts and uncles from my mother's side of the family still speak Rhöner Platt, but I guess it's gonna die with my generation
Kennt jemand einen Waschsalon in dieser Nähe?
Oder gibt es nur „textilpflege weyler“?
do oyu guys know any german courses that could move me from a1 to b2
I see goethe has courses but they are super expensive
Depending on where you live you could look for local stuff. If you're already in Germany you can try the local Volkshochschule which are generally quite cheap
@whole pecan welche Stadt ?
anyone know if Austria has anything like bafög?
ty
anyone know if Germany has anything like the Austrian version of bafög?
🤔
I just wanted beefy to help me. :(
anyone know if Germany has anything like the Austrian version of bafög?
I fucking DESPISE you
Anyone know if Bafög has anything like the German version of Austria
No but I think Bafög might know if anyone has German like the Austrian version of anything.
german server getting nuked first
No u
if it wasn't for the laws of this land you'd all pay 🔫
Get out with your water pistol smh
Hey I heard something is going on in Austria with a 12 hour work day or something. Can someone fill me in?
Do you mean: a normal work day 👀 💦
I was memeing
Mhm
Yeah, basically the government wants to introduce a system that allows people to work for 12 hours a day, so that for example a 4-days week is possible etc.
to make everything more "flexible" (at least thats what they say)
This sounds like an...idea
But it's been criticised a lot
potential for abuse lol
I mean, jobs with flexible hours probably exist anyway
its sounds nice to just have 3 free dys a week
We have contracts
but still be paid a full salary
Because it's definitely gonna get abused by some companies
oh ofc
They already abuse it guys loo
12 hours a day, 60 a week
It wont
I think there are some limits to it, but Im not sure
Since I dont work I dont really have had to deal with this xD
>60 a week
Mmm.....
It isnt just "everyone work 12 hour days now"
Majority of people here only work 8 hour days. You must sign a contract to work more.
It depends on the exact language of update, I suppose.
Where is "here"
Canada.
I think workplaces would work best with limited time restrictions. Like do the amount of weekly hours you need to do and if you do any more it's extra, rather than work in a fixed timespan.
Well yeah, above 40 hours a week is OT
It feels a bit like companies don't really know what work is for, like they try to squeeze as much time as possible from the workers as if that were linearly related to actual productivity
You get paid more
But allowing people to work that extra time if they want to is good imo, cause those people who need those hours will just find another job and work more anyway.
Within limits tho
Sure. There are limits in place.
12 hour day is the limit, and 8 hours between shifts.
It's also illegal to not have a day off per week.
The state should ensure that an individual doesn't work more than is healthy to, and that they don't need to
If someone wants to work that much that's their issue. Not the states.
thing with overtimes,is that sometimes it can incentivize companies to lower wages
'you need money? just overtime lol'
The problem with clear-cut limits is that companies tend to make them the standard, meaning that what is legally the very max that is allowed becomes what they expect from each worker
Like I said, most places dont do over 8 hours.
so like
systemic issuuess
Cause of OT.
ehhhh
And if you want to work more than 8 hours you must sign a contract.
Of the labour board comes after you.
I agree on what @karmic yew said too
It is pretty well managed here, no one is expected to work 12 hour days or OT.
or you can set your salary so that workers need overtime to survive and thus they will voluntary do it
Companies try to avoid OT.
I'm not saying it is perfect, but it isnt super bad.
I rather work one job a lot than have two.
For instance I work 3-4 days a week for 12 hours. I in turn get 3 to 4 days off.
But you shouldn't need to do either, it's what I'm saying
Well, that is the way it is.
ideally you'd not need more than one normal job
I'd rather work one job normally than work two or one a lot
Then there's the problem
I can kick and scream, but I will just be poor in the end.
'its not so bad, i can deal' is not an argument that things are good
I never said they were
It sucks but you have to do it to survive here.
that means your jpb market is not great
I k n o w
thats not an argument you want to field if you want to use it as example of decently working jobs market
Listen, I'm just saying let the people do it if they want to. They probably need it.
If you dont allow it they'll get another job.
like, we drifted here from other topic
They'll get 0 days off then.
Like I said, it is an agreement to work more.
See that's what I consider weird. There's no "if they want to" if not doing it means hardship
They cannot force you.
It's not a choice
yeah
law, in its majestic equality, forbids both rich and poor to sleep under bridges
They cannot legally force you but you're still compelled to if the alternative is starving or having substandard living conditions
yep
It's none of my business in the end but I don't think "that's just how things are" is a good mindset for stuff like this
It is how things are, for now. There would need to be a mass movement for it to change here.
But people want the ability to work that long, some people.
So regulating it is the next best thing.
Because let's be real, there are people already working over 8 hour days in Austria.
I know because there are restaurants there.
There are no rules regulating this work.
No OT
Society should be a thing of the citizens, not of corporations. I moved out of my country because I wasn't ok with earning 800€ a month off the books with no benefits or savings
It should be.
I have 0 savings. I dont make enough for that. This is my first job with benefits, and I don't get them for 3 months. I'm not denying it is fucked up.
I am just saying regulate it.
My actions by themselves accomplish nothing, but i count towards the number of people who go through the trouble of emigrating rather than work domestically, and when enough people do that, the government is forced to acknowledge the problem and act
I used to work 12 hour days because I felt pressured to do so, until I stood up and said nah. Which, if they fire you, can result in them getting closed down.
It osnt perfect, but it stops the abuse.
Because if someone calls the ministry they dig up all the dirt.
I'm all for regulating but it shouldn't be a shallow line on the ground on what can and can't be done. It should be a well thought-out plan to eliminate the problem altogether. I.e. make it so people don't need to overwork rather than just limit how much they can
Sure.
you work in a kitchen right?
weelll....yeah...you would need a political movement to enact syfgicient change, individual is powerless
I worked in kitchens for 6ish years
my brother is a chef so I know how hard you guys got it
@karmic yew yes, but I'm also convinced that an individual that conforms to a system he knows is broken ultimately works to keep it that way
so having 0 impact is better than having negative impact, if you get what I mean
choice must be created. I left all my friends and family to emigrate, and while I realise that not everyone can do that, I also know that a whole lot could if only they would
and within europe it's not even that hard to do
emigration is haaard
language barrier is one thing
then you have laws around emigration, culture, natives who may or may not be cunts in countless small (or less small cough firebombing mosques is free speech cough) ways
plus lack of support network of people who can house you or whatnor
mmhm
I'm too broke lol
and money too, yeah
I managed because I'm not alone and because EU, but still it should say something as to what the real obstacle is
like.....yeah, immigrating into richer countries is net boon to yourself and receiving country more often than not
but like...how is the hard part
like
3000 euro in savings is, uhhhh....
When a plane ticket costs over 1000 dollars lol
you could live, what, half a year or more in ukraine on.it
so, like
getting 3k euro saved up is way harder in countries with lower income
really?
it seems so much less
its possible to live here for 600 a month or so, not comfortably, but possible
even less if you wanna go hardcore 50 cent noodle meals
you'd have to pay more for repairing your liver after living on them.tho :v
thats...good for you
strong healthy girl the doctors said
gj surviving noodles, hecke's liver
i don't trust instant noodles >_>
Hearts worst nightmare
And salt
you add an egg in there
you add a few vegetables
mung beans, spring onions
mwaaaaah
I eat them tho
meh
my liver is kinda shitty
so i don't eat much of shit food
occasionally mac or kfc
Mine is fucked
homemade mac is so so good
From pain meds
oof
is there any chance of repair?
queues?
but you'd still have to tke pain meds over the years I'm guessin?
pain?
if they're on the topic of living in DACH countries, yes
what is the cheapest supermarket sort of thing between edeka penny and rewe
those are the big 3 in hamburg from what i see
or at least in my area idk
Aldi
oh yeah shit i forgot about aldi
REAL WARENHAUS
dude you can get stff in bulk there that normally places like edeka and rewe would minipackage and sell for more per 100g/1kg
in terms of what you pay gram for gram I'd say real is the best
never seen a Real here :<
where is here :p
Dortmund
There mouth 😄
i will keep my eyes peeled for that, i'm moving to like alster so im pretty certain i'll have to travel out to like st. pauli or smth for that but if the deals are there it is worth
only if travelling doesn't cost more. I don't think the price difference is so big :/
personally I prioritise how close the place is, since I go on foot
i am a medicine student who is Turkish, but i don't wanna be work as doctor in my country. I wanna live a better life- so i started to learn German and i was thinking that what if i can be good at it, i wanna work there. So, is RACISM real? esp to Turks?
there's racism everywhere ¯_(ツ)_/¯
how bad it is depends probably on where you're gonna live
Not so much now, but I can see it becoming more common in the future.
I don't think you're going to have many problems with that in Germany, if you don't plan to live in former eastern germany territories (which are purportedly more racist)
I can't offer any valuable first-hand experience but at least here in NRW, there's a lot of well-integrated Turks and families that have been here for many generations
I dont know - there are so much Turkish people in Germany already, and they haven't got a perfect reputation.
But as a doctor, if you can get Approbation in Germany, you can get a job almost in all Europe. Also our Turkish Lira has lost so many value nowadays- 1 EURO = 6 TURKISH LIRA
And there is always violence in TR, everywhere especially in Health Workers. Everyday some doctor or nurse get a beating.
i think medicine is an international fact. and Germany has lots of good tech and human rights
so i wanna be very best /lul/ and move in germany
if you don't mind me correcting you, you should switch around your use of "many" and "much"
I think the reputation turks have is mostly due to the lower classes plus the general xenophobia that every country has when a foreign nationality or ethnicity starts becoming prominent. But a professional should have no problem from that I believe - doctors are well respected
thanks for that
i think it depends on how much youre willing to integrate to the german culture, most germans wont have any problems with you if they see that youre putting effort
i've just started my journey and my aim is; when my inside-voice starts speaking like a German. (like thinking about sth) then i'll say to myself = you are done
oh but that would be just the beginning, my friend ;)
inside voice?
yeah like when your sleeping your dreams becoming German
don't you have a voice inside your head, Suzu?
For example when i'm typing something my inside voice is always one step ahead of me
You don't have that voice inside telling you to kill people, Suzu?
put like that it's a bit ambiguous but I believe all of us can "hear" their own voice when thinking and being not very focussed
im native czech and vietnamese but i actually never think in vietnamese but i do sometimes in english
@solemn bay only you ❤ 🔪 👀
😘

@tight kelp in which langs do you think?
most often English
Me too!
oh, not italian?
oddly enough no, that'd be second place I suppose
wow interesting
then German, then a lot of different stuff like Sicilian, Japanese and others of which I only know bits and pieces
my mind seems pretty good at code-switching and filling in holes with expressions and words of the languages with the most fitting options for the ...shape of the hole, I guess
I usually dont think
which might explain why I'm so bad at expressing my thoughts in one language and am relatively slow at speaking
maybe that's what dyslexia looks like, or maybe my dyslexia is the cause of it
oh, its the other way for me, i almost never use words from other langs when i speak one
Same.
i know other people like to use english words and phrases tho
I do.
hahahah
I code switch a lot even outside my mind :D I get considerably slower when I have to refrain from it
what a surprise base
You're too cute for one language, Berzi.
❤
Likewise
i code switch english and german tons
it makes me feel lazy for speaking denglish 😦
Im confused about the ticketing system of the kölnverkehrsverbund
It seems to only be differentiated by time
K=20mins
1=90 mins
2=120 mins
But then it says that the einzelticket is valid for one trip only, so why would anyone buy 2?
hi guys, is there any native German who can help me with a tax query. (for Germany)
Question: I have recently got confirmation of 2 mini-jobs in 2 different universities. First one (call A) offers me 45 hours a month and other (call B) offers me 16 hours a month. Both combined I will get EUR 650 a month against 61 hours. For uni A, I already signed pension exemption paper and I won't be paying any pension. But for uni B, I haven't yet signed any documents. Do you know if having more than 1 job requires me to pay taxes despite not earning enough money?
I don't think the tax exemption limit considers the amount of jobs (especially because they could also be una tantum things, in which case one would very easily be forced to pay taxes even if the earnings were meagre), but only how much money is earned
Oh
also: ja
(also wirst du wahrscheinlich eins wollen)
SwissPass?
oh. cool
okay ich hab ein bisschen gelogen
... ok?
Halbtax kostet 185 Franken.
