its the only i know
or see if u got any PASCH schule at your country
like the one i had
I don't think so...
i took the DSD 2 exam from my school...these schools are mostly outside of europe so they motivate students to go to germany for university
yeah well find something if there is in your country
if not you can go to germany like a few months before
and take the exam there
Isn't there a preparation program in Germany?
oh damn
But isn't it a highschool?
Can't I just apply for a preparation program in Germany? 💀
yes but you told me u wanted to get into your degree so
if youre willing to spend 1 more year in your country for example why not use it
Isn't there one in Germany though
look
I read something that once you do the course, it's going to be easier to be admitted to those universities
you can go to german universities for...
- studienkolleg when you dont have HZB but as far as i understand you do
- directly to pursue your studies
- preparatory courses for language
if you got good grades and a recognised german language diploma i dont thinkyou will be treated any differently
dont believe everything
😭
But I guess it would be easier... Idk
Because otherwise I'll have to pay a lot of money just for the courses
The link you sent me is quite expensive
And I guess it'd be easier to go to Germany, do a preparation course for a couple of months and then apply to an university
do you think living in germany for some months or 1 year is gonna be cheaper?
Idk 💀
you can take preparatory courses anywhere you wish in your country
just learn german
then take the exam which is around 200€ at goethe institut
I don't have any Goethe institut in my country, so I'll have to travel to Germany for that
im stating mostly my opinion here....im in kind of same situation and im very sharp when it comes to costs
😭
What about Jacobs university
It only requires English proficiency test which I already did
jacobs in bremen?
HOW DO YOU FIND ALL OF THIS
Yes
im literally reading paraguaian or what language its you guys speak called
you have to try
Spanish 😭
plus today has been my worst day and i wanna kill someone
so im searching this stuff with anger
HAHAHAHA
i was thinking where have i seen these words
ok so jacobs uni in bremen requires VPD
search whats a VPD in uni assist
and its 1am here i gtg to wake up at 6 for work
IT's OK, thank you very much!
dm me or drop your questions here and ping me whatever ill see tomorrow
Thank you very much!
no worries
I have a question regarding what is "typical" for a German cv. I intend to start applying for jobs in real estate finance in Germany but am not quite sure of two things:
1). My native language is English and I will be applying to international real estate finance firms; is it better to have my cv in English or German or should I even send both?
2). If I should send it in German, what exactly is typical for a finance professional to include/leave out? In the US this often varies by sector of employment and I'm just assuming it's the same in Germany
Attached below is what came up when I googled (Lebenslauf finanz) but I'd like confirmation or refutation as to whether or not it actually is typical for Germany.
The below isn't a real cv, it's just a fake one stolen from a website
Hello
is there any other purpose for a scanned passport other than travelling purposes?
#1 - definitely have your CV in English if you plan on working in English
#2 - as far as I'm aware, German CVs are very much of the "include everything" mindset. Unlike with my American resume, I would include even irrelevant employment experience (although I do leave out my high school part time jobs lol) because Germans expect it to be a complete history afaik.
The sample you posted looks pretty standard but tbh looks a little fancier than most German resumes I've seen. Also the picture has become semi-optional, I've had discussions with uni classmates about whether they plan to include it. I didn't include mine but more traditional companies may expect it.
Hello everyone. I would like to study medicine in a German university, but I currently do not meet the language requirements. Is it possible for me to apply for a conditional acceptance while I perform a preparatory language course at the university? If so, what are the universities that offer such an option?
That makes perfect sense. Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time
Should I mention that i also want to do a master's degree after bachelor in my cover letter aswell or does it trigger those consulate officers?
No not possible
- if it really is international, it shouldn't matter. if your working language is german, use german.
- that only matters if 1. matters :>
I found this to be helpful in designing my cv for Germany. It’s landed me a number of interviews. https://www.simplegermany.com/german-cv-in-english/
I appreciate it!
Ooh thank you! I'll check it out
Hi, someone is trying to get into a Studienkolleg?
Does someone have an experience in Wirtschaftsinformatik? I wanted to know how a student will describe the course as. From what I found on the net it’s a mix of informatik bwl and economics but still a real science.
And just how different it is from a informatik course
It's less Informatik and more Wirtschaft. It depends on the specific uni how the distribution is exactly. It's probably a fair bit easier than pure Informatik. If you wanna do reasearch / go for a PhD I'd recommend Informatik over Wirtschaftsinformatik. But really, it depends on what you wanna do / work as later on
as it was already said, it'll be more business than Informatik, but on the plus sight it's one of the if not the most sought after profession currently on the market. three of my friends have several open slots in the companies they're working in for that.
you'll have to like BWL because it'll be esentially all you'll be doing one you're done, you'll be expected to be the guy who connects the business side with the technical side. good universities will reflect that by offering a lot of hands-on stuff. as it was also already said, if you want to research in any way, this might not be the best field
What museums/art galleries would you guys recommend to visit in Germany? (preferably in Berlin or somewhere that's not too far from it, but doesn't necessarily have to be.) I know I could just do a Google search and it would give me results of the most popular ones, but I would prefer to get the opinions of natives and others who have had particularly exciting impressions of someplace they've visited. Anything that really stands out to you or where you've had a great experience. Thanks. 🙂
I found the DDR museum quite fascinating.
(In Berlin)
In principle, is it more management than economics/ analytics
So a course in Mannheim would be more business and in kit will be more technical?
as a tip, almost every uni and Studiengang if you just search uni name + course of study + Modulhandbuch (and/or Studienverlaufsplan) you can directly compare Informatik and Wirtschaftsinformatik 😄
yup
Thanks, I'll make a note of it 👍
If anyone else would like to give their answers as well then the question is still open, of course:)
Frage an die Ausländer in Deutschland,
Müssen wir auch Steuerabklärung machen? 😂 und wenn ja, habt ihrs selber gemacht? Jemanden eingestellt? oder wie?
Könnt mich direkt über Privatnachrichten anschreiben.
danke vielmals!
Hallo! Such jemand hier Mieter für eine WG in Aachen? Bitte private Nachricht mir schicken 🙏

BSc. in Wirtschaftswissenschaften
should i do it jn TU Dresden?
i aim an uni like TUM or ETH Zürich for masters....will they really care where u did your bachelor?
i can go to TU Dresden or risk a bit and wait for Sommersemester and go to Goethe Uni Frankfurt
Goethe is of course top class for economics and finance...but overrall TUD has better reputation but more known for engineering
That Dresden U has a higher reputation than Frankfurt U would be news to me
yes overrall...but not in economics&finance faculty
am i right?
wont I be open to more opportunities as a finance undergraduate in Frankfurt?
I mean Frankfurt is kinda the finance capital of mainland europe
TU Dresden in engineering has a good reputation. Frankfurt U has no engineering faculties. So I'd guess people rarely compare these two
Dresden is considerably cheaper to live in tho 😄
yeah I know
but if i wanna do an internship in like 3rd semester wont Frankfurt offer me more options?
a mere example
or wont a degree from Goethe in finance be more worthy
im literally so confused...I got a few days timeto accept the offer from Dresden and I am being pressured from everyone
for anything below Msc people rarely care for most degrees I'd say
makes sense
i just hope a BSc in Dresden will be good to have some decent chances later for Msc in Frankfurt or Zürich
or even Münich
i dont ever plan to live in dresden after studies
Ok, then study in the city where you wanna live? 😄
Just check what the requirements for Msc in X at Uni Y are. They may have some course requirements / grades you need to achieve in the Bsc
ETHZ needs background in economics, recommendations and some good GPA
most of the MSc courses I've seen just need a decent GPA and thats it
others just formalities
its understandable to think that some things are internal and they won't share of course
like which name of university they wanna hear more?
Check the german embassy in your home country
ok thanks!\
Ach soo. Danke für die Antwort! Sehr lieb von dir
I know when you're just starting college everything feels like the most important decision in the world, and ofc it is really important. But the goal of studying is to get an education and prepare yourself for your future career. So I would consider what you plan on doing and whether 'the name' is more important than the skills you acquire--and your own happiness.
As nyandog said, in germany bachelors programs are pretty much the same. Sure in some fields some unis have a better reputation than others, but it's really first at the master level that there will be large differences in curriculum: and your contact with your professors will be much closer/independent projects, etc.
So it actually does make sense not just to consider the name, but also where you would be happy living. Check the professors at the unis, their fields of research, whether there's any specialisation in the curricula, etc.
When I first went to college I got into my dream school, great name great reputation, amazing opportunities. But I was miserable the whole time and didn't end up making use of any of it. If I could go back, I would worry less about the reputation of your bachelor program and more about what you'll actually be happy doing.
Hi, is there anyone who studied at Siegen Uni as a exchange student?
rip sorry to hear that
I decided today to accept the TUD
it even had local NC which is even more selective
so I really gave it a thought to it and decided its a better place for me
Dresden seems chill and is pretty similar to the city I live now
very exciting, hope it goes well
its something about energy for an apartment complex I am applying to, I would translate it online but its a scanned pdf
Anyone here good at reading
im really stupid of considering leaving TUD for uni frankfurt
German and could help maybe??
is it a long doc?
Nothing wrong with considering surely
It isn't that long, it has snippets of text
that seems complicated tbh i dont wanna tell you anything wrong
if you want 2-3 opinions hmu and i will get back to you later
yep last week has been very stressful
Alright,
I'll dm the doc to ya then
no worries
for studienvorbereitung visum, should i put the language institute's details in visa application or the university where i got my conditional admit??
I use windscribe since it's free but it has a limit of 10gb or so
still enough for any YouTube videos which are blocked
Hey guys ! Im moving to ingolstadt in a few weeks to study at THI , i wanna make some new friends , feel free to dm !
?
why are youtube vids blocked??
why do u guys use vpns there
i wanna know such things so i can take some measurements before going to germany lmao
they're blocked for a number of reasons, some probably better for #archived-sensitive-topics
but in any case I've encountered blocked vids more often here than in the US
still it's not a real issue with a VPN and it's not something which happens a lot
some tweets are unavailable here which surprised me the most 😂
...
dont u get fined in germany for using vpn and viewing such things?
same with pirating sites
I haven't had an issue with streaming online. Haven't had an issue with youtube either. And it isn't illegal to use a vpn
hey can someone explain me why is mechanical engineering only 3 years in germany whereas its 4 years in other countries? is the 3 year degree then considered a diploma or a normal degree? i want to do bsc mechanical engineering, my dad wants me to go germany but a part of me wants to go canada :'(
bachelors degrees in germany last 3 years (generally)
at the end you have a BSc
it is considered normal. Worth noting: in Germany you do a master before going onto a PhD.
sooo the 3 year degree in germany is equal to a 4 year degree in some other country?
any drawbacks or is it completely fine? cuz im a lil scared abt the 3 year thing, my dad was telling me a mechanical engineering course lasts for 4 year and then u get a bachelors degree but in germany its 3 so high chances r tht its a diploma
do you plan on doing anything after a bachelors degree?
and if so: will you do it in the same country you got your bachelors?
im thinking of mba
but i will for sure do masters in smthng
im just not sure yet
The German abitur could be considered the equivalent to the first year of a four year bsc. So the high schools last year is advanced
it depends sir, cuz if im gonna do bachelors in germany then i wanna go canada and do masters there cuz i kinda have more interest to go study there
oh so its only for german schools? like german high schools or sm? cuz im from india and i study cbse syllabus, so i dont really know how it is for other boards
Cbse students need to do studienkolleg
You could search this on the internet. Some articles will explain it better
oh ok
classically the degree was 5 years. Which was split up in 3 yrs Bsc and 2 yrs Msc, so basically same curriculum as before but with an additional thesis instead of the Vordiplom. So most Germans would still do Bsc + Msc by default.
MBA is still kinda rare and I have not met anyone who would consider an MBA a plus (except if your company paid for it... then it's a nice holiday and why not)
ohhh so is it still ok if i do bsc and then mba? idk im still not sure abt which masters i wanna do :(
ow
cuz my cousin bro did mechanical in india (4 years) and then did mba in germany and now works in austria
i only have 1.5 years left cuz i havent strted learning german, i was just tooo curious so i strted learning from duolingo idk if tht wud help or not :'(
I mean, depends on what you wanna do. If you don't wanna work in germany, go nuts, pick whatever you like.
Also depends on the field of engineering you want to work in
classical construction company with mech engineer Bsc from india and mba from germany? I'd be very surprised if someone would hire. You'd need to be extremely above the rest of the candidates
uh im not sure if he went with construction company, as far as i remember he went with some natural smthng smthng but it wasnt construction
ye im not sure if i wanna work there, i have a lot of things gng on in my mind but taking small steps and gng ahead seems like the best option so im tryna do thinngs slowly but steady ig
it's a law on the books but its scarcily enforced in my experience
good
pirating is illegal in most if not all countries but it's not a top priority
@tight sky ill tell you what you need to know. Do everything to not get caught and NOT get caught.
😂 let's be honest everything can be bypassed if enough effort is made.
Hey i have a question
What language should my cover letter and CV should be in for student visa application?
My friend recently got a mail from consulate saying he needs to submit it in German even tho he submitted language school and A1 certificates along with it
And it creates a doubt for me
Both English and German
Hello I had a question concerning student german visa. I'll explained a bit of context first.
I received a letter of acceptance from a University X I applied to but I wasn't very interested in this degree. I also applied to a University Y which I had a complete interest to go to compared to the University X but I didn't received an acceptance letter from the University Y yet. Because I was concerned about the time it would take for my visa to process, my teachers told me that I could apply for my student visa even with the letter of acceptance from University X even though I wanted to go to University Y. This is exactly what I did 2 months ago and applied for my visa at the German consulate of my country. Meanwhile I received the letter of acceptance from the University Y.
Today I received an email from the consulate telling me that my visa has been well received and that I could come and claim it which is exactly what I did. The people working at the consulate gave me my passport in which there was my visa and told me some directives concerning the registration of my visa at the city Town hall that I should follow as soon as I arrive in Germany. Up till now everything is fine.
When I opened my passport to take a look at my visa, I saw the validity duration of my visa which was 6 month and I also saw that it was written also the name of the degree X at the Uni X. The thing is I'm going for the degree Y at the University Y, not the degree X. . Is it still going to be valid and will I be able to register and use my visa as I am planning to move to Germany in one month in the region of the Uni Y.
I know it's a bit long,it's my first time doing those things, any help would be greatly appreciated.
When i applied for my visa they made a really big point about making sure that the visa application process has to be specific to the university that I'm going to attend, and to supply the acceptance letter from that same university, because the visa will be specific for that university. As far as I know it, you're not allowed to attend another university when your visa is specific for one institution. So i would say double check with your embassy or the Rathaus of your city, because that could be a reason to reject your final processing
hello guys, I need some help please! any one who has good germany language. I have a Lebenslauf and Anschreiben that I need someone to correct them for me please
But how am I supposed to write in German when all i know is A1 ?
Hey if you want to you can dm me and I can help you!
Well, do what you can. You do not need to make it complex. Use simple sentences
Showing dedication matters
what the hell? Lol, no. Horse riding is popular because historically Germany is centrally located in europe and a hub of transport. Also german sport riders usually finish in the Top 10 in international events. You may also find horses in a lot of sigils of states / cities etc
deepL
;-;
Genuinely. That will put you on quite a good way.
I would put your text through deepL then post it here or ask another native for corrections
anyone here applying for coming intake??? in studienkolleg??
Can I DM you to ask you more questions please?
is your degree u applied for in english?
if yes make them in english
wtf youre telling him to do with A1 level💀
you dont need anything complex yet everything shall be precise and correct grammatically
nope but im applying for study preparation visa with language studies n studienkolleg
I would say do them in english
I would prefer talking here if you don't mind. That way someone else who also might know something can also chime in
i dont wanna give wrong advice
but seems more right than saying do them with german a1
the response they got was to do both.
bruh english is accepted everywhere
even i did my applications in english
sent them in 4 different universities in germany
it is a visa application, not an application to a university. I know nothing about it, so I can't say either way, but note that in the original post closure has made the observation that a friend of theirs was requested by the consulate to resubmit in german (for a similar program)
maybe depends on country
so if you do not want to give wrong advice, it is a good idea to get an idea of the situation and--in doubt--not to give any at all.
at least in my country english german doesnt matter
I got my university conditional acceptance and booked a language school
And my friend did the same n he submitted his application in English but consulate told him to do it in German and 💀💀
Where are ya from?
okok so do i need the letter for physical presence and extension of admission for language school aswell or nah??
the fuck
albania
Wrong app and place, thank you.
I'm afraid they might not be sold in Tunisia.
i start realschule in a few weeks and i just moved to germany, what should i wear to school? i'm not familiar with how school is like in germany and in my previous school, we wore school uniforms. i heard that this isn't the case in germany
lol wear whatever you want
why do you ask
if there is no uniform at the school means itsbup to you
(at least i dont care much about these things)
If you are worried that you might stand out too much/not enough you may go to any school around the time lessons end and watch for yourself what people wear. If you can't because of holidays, some other facilities with a similar profile might do the trick.
But generally, I have to agree with @tight sky . Unless your school has some sort of special arrangement (those who have a dress code are usually pretty clear about it), you shouldn't have much to worry about. As a general advice you should be in the clear with something modest as far as your school is concerned.
i hope my school wont have anything like this
so I will keep wearing whatever I want lmao
(yes to stand out too much)
My school used to have quite a strict dresscode (I'm not sure if it still does, it has been almost 20 years since my enrolment). I might still have the policy lying around here somewhere.
Can anyone help me with accommodation in Paderborn Please🥲
you should go to some actual apartment/room seeking websites
if youre enrolled at a uni have u seen if theres Studentenwerk there?
Yeah They have quite a long waitlist
rip i thought this wouldnt be the case
then yeah you need to suffer and go through them websites
so when I go to germany to start my studies in October
will the 1st month be crazy expensive for me
if anyone has recent experience I mean it could help
im a foreigner
The first 2 or so months will always be expensive. If you will live in a dorm i suggest seeing if they have a place where moving students leave stuff behind
iwant to appear for aufnahmenprufunf is it really tough for t kurs
aufnahmenprufung*
and which university should i go for full scholarship on computer science branch
Check daad
Does anyone do Ausbildung as foreigner outside of Europe?
Need help to understand how it works
yes
fuck
but the dorms at TU dresden as I saw were fully furnished
so
How does it work?
which part specifically
When I applied for a student apartment in Münster (same general area of Germany as Paderborn) in spring of 2012, there already was a waiting list open for Wintersemester 2016. Of course one could also apply for Wintersemester 2012, but... yeah. A colleague of mine got in, though, because of a disability. Some student dorms seem to have quotas for special groups.
Like learning German applying for Ausbildung. How do u apply?
There still are a few possibilities:
- Try to find a more expensive lodging in town
- Try to find something affordable outside of town or in a neighbouring town and commute from there
- Try to make connections that can inform you whenever some dorm room gets vacated
- Apply with a "Studentenvereinigung" (fraternity/sorority); this is cheap, but there are other caveats; there is a reason why these are not an option for most students.
- Look on noteboards at university or at the uni mensa. The things on there sometimes can't be found online (easily) and slip through the net of most searchers. This is how I got my accommodation.
but as I saw Studentenwerk Dresden had some available options
idk if that means there's no Warteliste at all?
No idea.
Studentenwerk is okay right?
I have seen many universities have that
its in the whole germany
Should be. But I've never been to Paderborn.
dresden*
but yeah
idk hope it is how I think it is
cause if theres no waiting list and available options till now it is quite convenient
in my experience studentenwerk stuff tend to have a long waiting list
they do prioritise international students, but you should still apply months ahead of time
nooooo
I must apply for it right now
is it complicated do you send only an application form and thats it?
idk why you'd prefer to live in a dorm to a WG anyway, but yeah: just apply.
I would start looking at other options already too.
I guess Dresden isn't a super popular destination, but it's still a sizeable city and housing is increasingly difficult to come by in all of germany.
can someone help me with my cover letter? :')) i just need some readers
cause im going to a foreign country
where a dorm is an easier start
and doesnt have the chance of scamming students
while someone on a website does very often
if its not too long send me
im too lazy but I will have a look later
or why dont u just send it here it will be easier
💀 well its almost 1 and 1/4 pages
Most WGs will run a full interview process 🤔 scamming is much more common for online apartment searches: however you do you. I was moving from quite far away and had no issues. The saying goes don't put all your eggs in one basket.
yeah ofc
tbh i dont like WGs
im seeing in dresden i can rent an apartment for really a slight difference than a WG in price
just a one room apartment would be okay its just me anyways
if you post it in #writing you will have a better chance
oh well then forget it 😂
look i usually cant say no to people
so use the opportunity now if u want
smh
I would offer since it's my native language but cover letters really suck.
english isnt my strongest points but im really sharp at grammar
LOL yay so dms?
whatever idc really
well it isnt grammatically accurate yet im just looking for a structure for now 💀
I will do my best
you contact various companies which offer an Ausbildung for the field you're looking for, the minimum German for the visa is B1
So just ask them even tho they dont say we accept ppl from outside
I've never encountered a company who said that personally
depending on the industry the local Kammer might have a list of companies on their website
Btw do i need to put my language institute's name n location or university which offered me conditional admit in my application for study preparation visa? ;-; im so confused
better be safe than sorry, put both
in my experience with the visa embassy they had a bad habit of not listing things they actually need on the website so just bring everything with you
dayum so put both language school and uni?
and and also they ask for a person for reference from germany, should i put in details of the person from language in that aswelll?
Does anyone know any special websites for housing in deggendorf, Germany?
I am finding a hard time looking for that online
private housing links anyone?
ok another stupid question
do u buy health and travel insurance separately? 💀
yes
ooofsies
gotta find a good one then
that health insurance better cover my half organs that dont function well
so another stupid question...do u uni students in germany carry many books around
sorry coming from albania is like coming from a cave
Depends on the university, the subject, the professor and the student's learning tastes. And the proficiency of the student in the subject.
pm plz
whatever
ill just buy the backpack i like
and hope i wont have many books cause its not one to carry a lot

im having the exact same problem with housing 😭
god forgive me fow how I read this sentence
Good luck to you too!
@tight sky ahaha until i get the approval ill still worry
Tho tbh i still have my b2 exam next month so i have to worry about that too
Hopefully
Is this a good response for housing?
Why do you want to live at x
do you identify as a woman? @shy spoke
also, 'als fleißige und fleißige Studentin' obviously doesn't really work
and as a structural thing, I think it's a bit all over the place. I haven't seen the other responses, so if this is your only place to talk about yourself and what kind of tenant you are, I can see why you've included it. However, I would still try to organise it better. The first sentence response to why you want to live at X place shouldn't be that you are a clean person who keeps their room tidy.
Unless there's bonus points for VPD scores, I would reword that as well.
this is probably a dumb question and im not sure where to ask but i'm visiting berlin in a few weeks and just wanted to check if my uk student id card will get me discounts in museums that offer it the same way :) also if anyone knows any nice places to visit in berlin other than the regular tourist spots pls let me know <3
most museums offer student discounts
hallo leute,
Im wondering what types of documents should I carry with me if I’m going to the airport. I study in a Studienkolleg (private)
Should I print everything along with the payments or should i just keep a screenshot of it with me
ONG thanks for picking that up
äääää LOL ig my writing style is "feminine" for the translator to assume it is studentin 🤔
danke für die Reaktion
will anyone even care
as long as u got a visa
but carry on a copy of your admission
the most that the airport offices can ask to see
i cant think of anything else
Is there a website for online books of German gymnasiums? I have tried some apps/websites like schlaukopf and Anton for studying school German but could not find one. I am mainly looking for upper middle school and high school maths
You may go through net.
If i get a ticket for an RE train from point A to point B, does that mean i can travel on any RE train on that route from A to B?Or are RE tickets train specific?
Any one has AOK health insurance and is available to answer some questions could you msg me ty 🙂
Is anyone pursuing or planning to pursue a masters degree in renewable/sustainable energy in germany?
I have but could only find private publishers not something from the Bundesländer
Most school books come from private publishers. There are some things provided by government agencies like "Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung" ("federal headquarters for political education"), but mostly for very limited topics (like what's in the German constitution).
And there are differences between schools in what books they use to teach. I just went to the bookstore a few days ago, and there were baskets of school books sorted by schools in the district (and not, as one might expect, by subjects).
The best/most in-depth school books for mathematics I know of are from the mid-1980s from "Bayerischer Schulbuch-Verlag" ("Bavarian school book publishing house"). I don't know if one can still get those, they had a few left in stock at our school (in the state of north-rhine westphalia) in the mid-2000s that were sorted out and I managed to purchase a set from the school. Haven't seen books as good for high-school level maths ever since - but I'm not familiar with a lot of the books circulating around, so this is just an opinion.
Hallo
I have a serious question in which I need opinions.
Is it risky to apply for 2 courses (related to each other) in same universities?
Does this anyway hamper my chances? I would be submitting 2 different but similar LOM/SOP (Letter of Motivation).
Or is it better to stick just to one course in one university?
I dont think it's better to apply for two different courses at the same university cus they'll easily know
Might be better to apply to different unis for different courses
Tho idk much about it
Hallo! Studiert hier jemand an der Freie Universität Berlin? 😃
I was accepted to a university in Germany, and we start in early October.......I am an American........do I have to get a study visa before I go, or can I just go in visa-free and get a residence permit once I arrive?
Study visa is NOT the same as a residence permit, correct?
as an American, you are part of the Schengen zone. That means you can come into Germany on the Schengen visa--for which you do not have to apply, it is automatic--for 90 days. During this 90 days you can apply for your residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel) within Germany. The purpose of your Aufenthaltstitel is included in it, you don't need a separate visa.
However, upon entering the country you may be asked about a return ticket or your plans. I would have your university documents (namely: acceptance letter(Zulassungsbescheid)/Immatrikulationsbescheinigung) at the ready in case they want to see them.
That's a relief....will I still need a blocked bank account (Sperrkonto) for my residence permit or is that for study visa only?
All online resources say that you will need a Sperrkonto with X amount for 1 year. This is the official requirement, so I want to make it clear that what I'm saying is anecdotal--you will want to get in touch with the international office at your uni and ask.
But I have never needed the Sperrkonto. In every city I've lived and every time I've applied and extended, I've shown a normal german bank account with the required amount. Never got asked about it a single time.
This has been the case in Hessen and Bremen.
Ahhh, okay. Vielen dank fur ihren hilfen
I might be moving to Germany when I become an adult, what should I do now to start preparing for that option? (I'm 15 right now)
learn german
non-EU students need a Sperrkonto
i got an invitation letter but the time period written on it was really flexible and i was wondering if my visa time period can be shortened (turns out i have to have enough money to show that i can afford)
also i only have my letter as a pdf do i need the original copy of it? or a print would be enough
I think it depends on the country you're from
embassies at some countries would give an appointment really fast to everyone while some would take ages
u either get visa or not
visa cant be shorter or longer wtf
u just get a national visa for a stay over 90days
and within 3months on getmany u MUST go to the office forgot what its called to get a residence permit
Ohh
Nvm i thought they meant appointment
Yes they give for 90 and u gotta extend it
which still tbh cant be predicted is either 1 or very rarely 2 years
u dont extend the visa u get the residence permit
but yo what kinda same shit
anw I have my own problems ill die alone
Same ;-;
How long it takes to find accomodation in Berlin when you're already there??
Like would 2 months be enough? 😭
oh, okay thank you ive never been abroad so i literally know so much
okie
thank you too
What's German arbitur?
In Germany, first you go to elementary school, which is 4 years. Then, you have to choose the type of secondary school. There used to be three types (but this has gotten way more complicated during the last couple of decades): Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasium, which differ in subjects and difficulty. Abitur is the certificate for finishing Gymnasium, which enables you to go to university. There are other ways to go there, but they are usually bound to additional conditions.
In total, for Abitur you have to go to school for 12-13 years (differs by state).
Can anyone who has applied for a German national visa from India, please DM me? I Have some urgent queries for the appointment! Thank you
The Abitur is the highest possible school qualification that you can achieve.
wie funktioniert Gymansium und Abitur? Abitur waere wie ein "University" und Gymnasium waere "Highschool"?
Nein, das Gymansium ist die Schule (Highschool) und das Abitur ist die Abschlussprüfung
hello, did anyone use fintiba to open their blocked account in germany?
I did
When i do an anmeldung in aachen does it matter which Amt i go to in the city
Bürgerbüro, Einwohnermeldeamt, has a few different names depending on the city
How to find accomodation in Berlin ?
Any tips?!
Is there anyone doing masters in the field of Pharma/Medical sciences?
guys i need some advice from the ghetto
idk if its for every country but my german embassy here requires for visa a student travel health insurance
it must be valid for 3months and cover expenses of at least 30k euros
so ofc its expensive...now I got an option of fucking 120euros including latest covid shit bla bla covered
but how much will the embassy look into this? what if i buy some cheap one covering 30k damage ok but not with covid and shit
i cant but noce youre going to switzerland ayy
shut up
u will
ill be supportive cause its my dream to go in switzerland in future as well lol
can i ask why switzerland?
I think eth Zürich has included some books on their website
On the pages relating to the two exams
For Germany, this should depend on the state you live in, as the states govern most things about education. And then there are the obvious differences between teachers, which can be... yeah...
When I did my Abitur in NRW in 2012, the topics were somewhat similar to the ones you list. We did cover among other things (if I remember correctly):
Establishment of the Northern American colonies and their differences
French king Louis XIV, the sun king
The French revolution
The Napoleonic wars and reforms
The Restauration after the Napoleonic wars
The advancement of ideologies in the 19th century
The revolts and revolutions 1830 and 1848/49 in Germany
The way to the German unification
The politics of Bismarck
The rise of the Socialist Parties in Germany
The First World War and its origins
The Versailles Peace Treaty
The Weimar Republic and the constitutional crises
The power grab by the National Socialists in Germany
The foreign politics of the National Socialists prior of the Second World War
The treatment of Jews under the National Socialists
A short overview about everything that happened after the Second World War
Of course there were lots of other things in the books, but we didn't cover them all. Not by a long shot.
ayy
good luck seriously
thanks
btw i hope u will keep up with expenses and the pressure there
ive heard eth is kinda strict for bachelors
wait, what? why isnt it possible to work during the studentkolleg?
iguess starving is the way
isnt it same as everyone
20hrs weekly
tbh same
even if the 20hrs are allowed I dont think ill be able to catch up with school and work since the start
same?
u mean even native students who attend uni are not allow to work either?
hm
imean i read on studenkoleg,de that is not allow to work during studentkoleg
international students who are in university can work up to 20hrs weekly
idk about natives or for studienkolleg
I believe it is allowed just like normal students but it's not reccomended since the Studienkolleg is full time
might need special permission also
u mean iits not recommended cuz i wont have time to do it? and what is full time? could you clarify, explain that ?
full time student typically means full course load
if you fail the Studienkolleg you cannot study in Germany it's very important to focus on your classes
and unlike a regular student you cant redo courses afaik
screams in fear
you can fail a certain number of courses before you're kicked out
ithink everywhere they kick you out if u fail
but once you are those credits you earned before are basically wasted
that's in Switzerland they have different rules than Germany
it depends on the institution, but by and large the bureaucracy and rules are very rigid
wait, u mean cant study AT ALL? like if i fail studenkolleg i cant even study in Volkshule?
Volksschule isnt studying
that's just courses someone takes in their free time, they offer some language courses but it's not Studium
no I'm american I live in germany
its called Ausbildung and u can attend it after 9th grade, and you study for 3 years, what is the word for it?
To study after an Ausbildung you need to work a bit after the Ausbildung then you can study
Dual Studium are studies during the Ausbilding but that is typically arranged by the company which offered you the position
anyway, thanks for info
has anyone here passed the T-course in studienkolleg ? i would like to know more about it, i know that the entry exams consist of german and math, somewhere only german, but better to ask the studienkolleg that im interested in, so lets say i got admitted, what subjects will i have in first and second semester? after the first semester do i need to pass any exams in order to attend the second semester? what final exam that is after the second semester consist of(list of subjects), and the classes that i will ihave, will they teach me from very beginning or i need to have some sorta basis level of the subject? thanks in advance
is it that hard to work part time during your full time courses?
seems I will be starving for the coming 3 years
depends how fast you do school work...bzw. how much you struggle. And ofc how hard and flexible your job is
ugh
oh hell no
im not doing my undergraduate studies at eth
I am aiming a masters one
but that has time...first ill need to survive germany
help?
Hello everyone. Do Ausbildungen fall under the Skilled Worker Act? I've tried to find information about this online which outrightly states this but I've only come across this article:
https://kcrconsultants.com/skilled-immigration-act-germany/
From what I read in the "Residence permit for Training and Skill Development" section, it might be the case but I'm not sure at all. Could someone please help me confirm this info?
The reason I'm asking is, in my country the German embassy has long appointments for visa applications. And if it doesn't fall under the Skilled immigration act I'll have to wait a year for an appointment.
The subjects depend on the studienkolleg and your degree. Typically it’s German, Maths, Physics, Chemistry,
informatik. You will probably need to know the basics by yourself, as they will only teach Abitur level topics. In some stks u learn chemistry or cs, it really depends on the stk
Anyone online here
Hi, what's your question?
At which universities i can study computer engineering with 3 nc
What's 3 NC?
Numerus clausus score is 3
I have no idea, have you tried DAAD?
your grade is a 3? The NC is the cutoff. So you want to look for a uni that has no NC or an NC lower than 3
and the final exams? it consists of all subject they, right?
Did u study in germany
yes, I studied before and currently study Informatik
What was your nc
Are you native german
no
which universities did u apply
uhhh let's see....in Berlin, in Bremen, and in Hamburg
also in Frankfurt awhile back
note: none of those applications were for informatik, rather for psychologie (much stricter)
but the principle is the same.
Why informatik doesnt require nc is it a bad thing to study
So you changed majors?
no, NC is basically just made in case more people want to study a topic than there are places
In many degree fields like informatik, physik, math, etc etc. the number of students who wish to study doesn't exceed the spots.
there's also a high drop out rate in the first year or two, if I'm not mistaken, which may also contribute
Bro im so pissed that there is no way you can know if u can get into a university or not in germany there is literally no ranking
I've never seen a more cut and dry system for knowing ahead of time if you'll get a spot 🤔
if there's no NC: if you have the right documents you get in.
If there is an NC: if your grade is much better than the NC, you will almost certainly get in. If it's lower, chances are much slimmer
its so random dude like its insane im living in turkey and i can know months ago if i can get into a university or not
If you fulfill the minimum requirements, you'll most likely get in, I guess. Don't quote me on that
Yes it’s called the fsp
personally had a very poor experience with uni-assist, cut and dry is the last word I'd use to describe the application process
I didn't use it to describe the process rather the concept of NC 😄
however, I'm surprised at how many people struggle with uni-assist. The amount of step-by-step resources is very high. Was it a logistics problem? (i.e. mail not going through)
it was in 2020 so they pulled every excuse to delay giving me my results until the last second
werent accepting any phone calls, only emails with 2 week waiting times
did you apply early or late in the process?
way early
I have never tried calling or emailing them, kinda figured there would be no response. I imagine they are just drowned in emails from people begging for results
communication from them was scarce
I dont understand why you cant just apply directly to the university, this just makes the whole process impersonal and complicated
idk where you applied, but at many schools you do apply directly at the uni, you only use uni assist for the VPD
yea but keeping me waiting until the week before the semester begins is cruel
was it a master program ?
private or public?
public
Vorprüfungsdokumentation
that basically decides whether or not you can study at all lol it's kind of important
the fact uni assist also lied and told me the university itself could change the decision only for the university to deny this
yeah VPD is important, my point was that at many unis you still apply via their portal/process, just submit a VPD as part of the documents altogether.
But yeah, that sounds like a shitty experience.
may I ask which Bundesland?
Can i get into a university with ap or sat scores or do i have to enter the testAs exam
shitty bureaucracy is everywhere in this country
I had bad experience with Berlin unis sending really late Zulassungsbescheide (esp. for a city where finding an apartment is next to impossible)
you can submit them but I've never been asked for them specifically
afaik the 'dates' are Bundesland wide
some of my AP courses werent even considered
at least that was the vibe I got when my decisions for unis within the same Bundesland all came in on the same day
maybe it was just an odd coincidence for berlin
Do you know which exam do i need to take to study in germany
friend of mine applied directly to Karlsruhe they didnt accept any AP or ACT scores
so what did he do?
its extremely frustrating how rigid this system can be even to continuing students from foreign universities
well she did get in after a bit of hassle, I'm sure the uni was more willing to let in a non eu student they can charge tuition since it's in Baden Württemberg
Btw in turkey you can see which university you can enter very easily
For germany i couldnt even find the numerus clausus for universities its so hard to know which university will accept you
rather it is hard to know whether your qualifications will be sufficient for NC frei
uni assist has a short quiz on their website for this but it's not a guarentee
And its all in german its all gibberish to me
hence why you would apply for the VPD which will say right on the front whether or not you're qualified 😅
?
What is vpd
I genuinely do not know what you're referring to
at least uni-assist will take AP tests into account, so long as you have the actual report
I had to wait months for results
AP tests but not the courses themselves
well it can vary by subject
So ap score can get you into a uni in germany?
but for the more niche ones like statistics or environmental science they did not accept them
Do they accept it for computer engineering
AP is an American course type in high school
if you pass the exam at the end of the class you can skip uni level courses
Can you apply to computer engineering at a uni with a ap score
I suppose? it probably depends on which course you took
well, naturally. It has to be 'converted' into an Abitur-ish grade. And it would be difficult to claim Stats as equivalent to a math LK, I imagine. But they wouldn't just discard the course altogether. It would still be considered as part of your credits. The sticking point is that an American High school diploma is not equivalent to a German abitur. So what you'll get is a lot of American students desperate to avoid Studienkolleg or entrance exams, frustrated that their high school degree isn't recognised as sufficient in the German system.
But they can reject you too even with ap score like you said right?
I'm just describing my experience, even many of my university level courses werent accepted
weren't accepted for what? That is what I'm confused
they took a 101 level chemistry course but not AP environmental science
and yeah, your experience sounds bad aside from the issue of assigning credit
the credits
was converted to 0 basically
I didnt understand how I didnt have enough credits for math and science until they told me they just wouldnt consider certain courses because they're too specified
yeah, they have to be specific (not in that sense) to count. Did you take the calc AP exams? Or normal science AP exams (physics, bio, chem?)
I did but they never asked for those, didn't pass them though
Guys i have a simple question is it sensible to study sat or ap to study in germany?
AP environmental science has one of the hardest ones unfortunately
no
and its probably the least specialized actually lol
contains topics from biology chemistry etc.
was even more frustrating when the uni literally told me I'm probably more qualified than most applicants but their hands were tied since they didnt have the "legal power" to overturn uni assists decision despite uni assist claiming the opposite
Hzb is when you apply to a university major at your home country this gives you the chance to study the same major in germany too right ?
it's in the past, it just amazed me how difficult the whole process was even though I was physically in the country and town the sole uni I applied to was in. Can't imagine the stress from someone applying abroad
yeah, it sucks that it turned out so shitty.
in order for me to study computer engineering in germany i have to be qualified to study computer engineering in turkey too right?
think I'm happier in my Ausbilding though, universities are often a bubble and keep you from experiencing the rest of the country
As in your you gotta have a high school cert where you def passed all subs in your major exam (i think, for the min, could be higher)
Idk you gotta check daad to see if they have subject specific requirements
I'd say on a scale of A-E with F as fail...i mean im referencing the Alevel scale but yea most NCs especially in high ranking unis are at about B+ grades could be lower tho but to be on the safe side of things
I mean im taking 2,3 as the threshold here
I can def give you a more exact number after my grades get converted tho but that will be in dec
its easy to find NC
just research
for international students tbh i think anything past 2.0 will make things difficult
while 1.5 or better for sure get u a spot
but idk...some friend of mine got rejected with a 1.2 lol shit happens depends from uni
It's easy to find NC for something, because a large number if courses doesn't have any NC (at least for Germans, not sure how this related to international students, though). But there are fields, courses and - yes - universities where NC are extremely high, most famously medicine, psychology and some other medicine-related fields. If your friend applied for something from this category, the rejection would basically be business as usual. That's one reason why a lot of Germans interested in these fields - but without the necessary grades - seem to leave Germany temporarily to study in other countries with lower NC, like Austria and Hungary.
it was biotechnology
which no way in hell has a higher NC than 1.6-1.7
you make it look like Austria is easy to get into lol wtf
university of vienna has one of the hardest processes ive heard
especially for medicine
they make it IMPOSSIBLE for jnternational students
I have no personal experience with this, especially regarding international students. But for Germans as EU citizens the process does not seem especially hard. As a lot of seats in those countries seem to be occupied by Germans, Hungary in particular is said to have implemented a system where foreigners can come to study, but are then contractually bound to practice as doctors in Hungary for a set number of years after they receive their license. But I have not researched this myself, so no idea how the status on that is.
keep in mind that for non eu students everythings more complicated
and we get much less spots available
independently from our grades
can someone send me some motivation letter samples for Bachelor's to use as a reference
Hello everyone. Im moving to Duesseldorf on the 17th of September for my exchange semester at HSD and I am having trouble finding an appartment there. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find an appartment? thank you!
ebay kleinanzeigen?
I tried searching there but I found the website to be very rigid and didnt know how to commute on there
I can't think of a website that is less rigid than ebay kleinanzeigen....but have you tried wg-gesucht, immoscout, immowelt?
also....if it is just an exchange semester, wouldn't you rather live in a WG-room?
yes, also😥 the thing is no one is answering back.
and my university has no available places in their accommodation.
apartment
It's none of my business, I know, but why?
I guess im scared to try the shared appartment experience. I would rather have my own space
It will certainly be difficult to find someone to rent out an apartment for 6 months because most landlords don't want to have to look for a new tenant again so soon.
maybe you can find something for Zwischenmiete
are you writing your messages in German?
Most of the times I got no responce
and when i get a response back , they tell me it has been rented.
well, you can try the websites. I really wish you the best of luck with it and hopefully you can find a place in the next few weeks. I would recommend learning how to use ebay and sending messages very promptly after the ad has been posted.
I will try that. Thanks for your help anyways!
Hi guys
I’m 23 and I’m from Iran
I want to immigrate to Germany and I want to study computer science in university
Can I go to university with my diploma or should I pass exams for the university?
My grades aren’t very good
Mit unserer Datenbank „Check: Hochschulzugang“ finden Sie schnell und einfach heraus, ob Ihre Zeugnisse Sie zum Studium in Deutschland berechtigen. Jetzt für Ihr Land prüfen!
check the unis you would be interested in attending and the Bewerbungsprozess.
at many unis there is no NC for Informatik, which means your grades won't really matter (assuming you're qualified to attend uni in the first place)
.
i have a question about visa extension for students, so like i am in koblenz right now and i finished my german C1, and already have a visa and i have to apply for an extension in munich cz thats where i am going for uni, so do I have to show proof of finances like a blocked account or do i have to show current account balance and if so how much should be there in my account?
a lot of people wanna study biotech / bio in general in ger, far more than industry demand, so this is not super unusual
I'd say biochem/biotech/bio is quite common to have an NC
what is Nc? forgive my ignorance
Numerus Clausus. Basically a minimum grade you need to be accepted in that program
oh, i see
are you currently a student?
okay but the nc cant be 1.2 lol
we also have this thing in ukraine ^-^
That is not true. The NC is determined by the last applicant’s average of graduation (e.g. 1,5) who was accepted into a study programme. It varies by year and usually the NC is higher in winter. So it is not a minimum requirement but a statistic number being evaluated after the acceptance process!
But it's also a good indicator about which grade average you have to have to be accepted. If the NC is 1,5 in one year, there is almost no chance you will get in with a 2,0 or even 3,0 the next year.
The NC is indeed very helpful for a rough direction but it‘s not a kind of limit below which one’s grade must be in order to be accepted
Starting Ausbildung next week, used to work until now, do i need to pay for Versicherung now or? does anyone know maybe
or can i stay under my parents insurance since im 22?
i finished my language course and i am going to UNI
or is it covered since im going to some sort of school i guess?
they sent me a questionnaire but im not sure if i should choose:
"i have got a new work" or
"im going to university or school" or
"Ich möchte mich familienversichern."
( im not sure if ausbildung counts as work or school )
thought maybe someone here knows a bit more
Does ausbildung provide salary needed to get the visa?
YES BABY, thats what we've been waiting for, thats was all about, congrats mate ^-^
I would assume you still need to show the appropriate amount in the bank account. What that amount is atm you can find online
it was something like 10.000€ (rounded)
but with inflation and increased living costs, they may've changed it
what is it about, may i know? is it the requirement in order to get visa and to study in Germany?
yes, there is a certain amount of money you have to show in a bank account
dam
for my embassy they changed it
lately within days
but ive opened the account weeks ago
hope they wont kick me out after 2 days in my appointment
if you're already on their insurance it shouldnt be taken from your salary
i was under my works insurance up until now
then choose the family option in the letter they sent you, I have TK but im sure others have similar forms to fill out
what are some of the reasons people transfer from a FHS to a Uni and vice versa?
i just had a chat with a woman who lives here in Germany for a quite long time, and so told me finding the job easier if i finish Berufschule rather than finishing university
an Ausbildung at the Berufsschule will give you good connections since its highly practical
and many trainees continue working at the company they did their ausbildung at
most uni programs require an internship or two but that's not the same as being fully employed at a company
So i checked for the requirements for my country to enroll in a german uni, turns out my highschool degree will qualify me to a "subject-restricted admission to a preparatory course/the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification exam)" is that the same thing as a Studienkolleg? and am i supposed to first apply to a course like that something like a TI-course then from there apply to my desired course or am i supposed to apply first to the course i wanna attend and they're the ones who will refer me to Studienkolleg that i'll attend. im sorry if im not being clear im just pretty confused
is studentenwerk flexible when u get a room?
i mean i have got one i need to pay the deposit now within 5 days and then i gotta go personally by 5th of october
u think i can make a request to make them let me go on 6th or 7th
this is an issue which you need to take up with them via phone or email.
Hello friends had a quick query,
Today I received my Germán residence permit allowing me to continue my studies. Along with the physical card they also provided me with a loose paper (some supplementary sheet i believe where its mentioned about the 16b stuff 120 days or 240 half days work entitlement, no freelancing etc).
So do I need to carry both the card and the paper sheet wherever I travel/go around Germany/Schengen countries? I mean for other countries yes passport is an add on, but the supplementary sheet?
Don't think so that's just for your reference
if I remember from when i got something like this, they told me you needed both of them on you to count as your residence permit. That said, I've never been asked for my residence permit when traveling within Schengen.
The German residence permit (German: Aufenthaltstitel) is a document issued to non-EU citizens (so-called third-country nationals) living in Germany.
Prior to 1 September 2011, residence permits and additional provisions were affixed to pages inside the passport (in sticker form). Today, residence permits are issued as ID-1 (credit card size) pl...
I would keep them both together wherever you keep them
keep it in your passport only bring it when absolutely necessary
also a good approach
oh I see..so usually I'll just carry around my residence permit physical card right? for travelling within Germán borders?
For traveling within Germany I've never needed my card, ig if I got into issues with the police it could be a thing? but you're allowed to say you keep your passport/this form at home afaik
I mean i am not comfortable travelling every time with a passport. Fear of getting robbed or stolen something innit
if you're traveling into/out of Schengen definitely bring it along with your passport, though.
That's the only time they've checked mine and you definitely need both the card and the sheet of paper for that.
bring another form of ID, it's too risky to carry your residence permit everywhere
yes definitely..but within Germany\ border limits ig I will be fine keeping it at my home safe ig
and within germany no one will ask for it anyway
within Germany you're almost definitely fine
ehhhh 😦..i do carry my student uni id everywhere..and my TK insurance id
for other within-Schengen travel I'd bring it with me to be safe, but I'd bring my passport too so I'm just more cautious about being sure I have the right docs for that
right
I carry my residence card in my wallet and I'm not super worried on that front, but I also just usually use it as ID lol
so now I'll just keep the loose paper pamphlet inside the passport book (at home) and carry the residence permit card in my wallet for my everyday (within Germany) purpose
and for Schengen travel, the passport, the loose sheet and the residence permit card
ok im a little nervous as im going to Germany for the first time ever since learning German, are there any unspoken rules that i should know of? i am worried my speech will be impolite 😭 what is tipping like? any tips for daily life or getting around? how do i talk to servers and staff without coming off as rude 🥺 and importantly are there any phrases like ‘have a nice day’ in Germany i can learn, i want to show my thanks to staff properly as i know serving tourists all day is tough
it’s actually really stressing me haha even though it will be fine, i really want to be nice but i have never visited since i started learning and just have no clue about what the culture is actually like, just what i know from class and exchange students and i want to be a little prepared
Tipping: Rule of thumb 10% but the better the service, the higher the tip. It is not necessary but is a sign of showing how well the service has been at your restaurant visit.
Example: The bill is 17,80€ (10%=1,70€) but I'd round it up to 20€ roughly
A good way to start talking to servers is: "Entschuldigen Sie, ..."
thank you! i read online to give the tip directly to the server and to not leave it on the table like we would do in England, is this true? or does it not matter 🥰
That's how it is. Usually you give them your desired amount and say "Das stimmt so/Das passt so" to indicate you dont want any change. Or you just say the amount of the bill with included tips and the staff will give you the rest back in cash 🙂
"Ich wünsche Ihnen noch einen angenehmen/schönen Tag" (at the end of a conversation)
The politest way to say thanks is "Vielen Dank"
thank you that makes sense !! ☺️☺️ i feel a little less nervous already
im sure it will all come to me after a while of being there
Sure, just enjoy your visit!
If you have any further questions feel free to reach out to me anytime
thank you so much :) !!
ugh
btw guys do u know if in 2nd or 3rd year depending when i got to renew the residence permit in germany
must i have the sperrkonto again or can i show them like half of it and in case I work also a job contract
you have to have proof of financing, so I think generally a job contract should suffice. It certainly did for me. However, I think the ausländerbehörde has a lot of discretion on this, so it might vary depending on which one you're visiting.
I've heard that in Berlin they don't even care about you proving you can still finance things for renewals, but I heard this from the guy in Potsdam who was shittalking the Berlin ausländerbehörde the whole time so
ugh
I will be in Dresden
Im mostly scared about fonancing and nothing else
cause I know I cannot afford 35k deposits 3×11k whatever
without working a single day
i have a doubt, i think i know the answer but i just wanted to confirm
so i know germany offers a lot of masters programs in english as well as german
am i right in thinking the german masters are easier to get into, solely because most people dont want to trouble themselves with c1 german just to study for 2 years
I wouldn't assume this assumption is correct, because many german students don't want to study in English.
and overall there will be many more german students than international students at the master level in the first place.
thats fair, i thought the amount of applicants would differ with a german masters vs an english speaking masters
for the latter, id have to compete with a global set of applicants whereas the former would be just from the DACH countries at max, and few others who know C1-- that is what i assume
i am also guessing there are preferences for german speaking students in german taught masters
afaik there is no discrimination or set amount of places for international students within german-speaking master programs. So long as one has the proper qualifications (grade, finishing certificate, language certificate) one's chances ought be as good as anyone else's. It is likely to depend much more on the field than on the language of study.
Hello
Hast du irgendwelche Unis im Sinn?
Ja
Die Kriterien können zwischen Unis variieren
Tech uni Munich
Ludwig Maxillian uni
Du solltest ihrer Website sehen, ob sie spezifische Kriterien haben
Und vieles mehr
z.B ein Sprachzertifikat
Ja, aber
ah okay, i was just wondering if me taking the extra effort to learn academic german would not increase my chances in a german uni haha
Hmm
Manchmal sind deine Schulnoten, bzw. CGPA egal
Gilt ein Notendurchschnitt von 7 allgemein als gut?
Was!!!
Warum nicht?
Das ist sehr schlecht
Ich habe keine Idee weil ich nicht studiere
Ohh
it depends what you want to do. But also keep in mind that your choice of programs will be much broader with german-speaking options. I would say, though, at the master level it's not unrealistic to study in english.
masters in CS
yeah the choice is better, plus w cs i hear there are also english lectures sometimes, even with it being a german degree
yeah that is true
learning german to C1 though is time consuming. idk how far out you are
What hierchen said. It also varies wildly between unis and fields. I think it would help more with admissions to get internship experience etc, since germany generally value that more than most countries
woaa really? (music to my ears). have you had lectures sometimes being taught in englisch then?
not so far for me. But I think at some point in the 4th semester there's the option to take a machine learning class in english
might be a few other ones
Learning german before would help you in your every day life but unless you can have C1 qualification and actually be good at using the language it wouldn't really help with admissions i think
yeah we have that mandatory for our uni course anyway
Good
i understand that
Get in good grace with your professors and supervisors. Get those letters of recommendation

it all be tough, so i was really rethinking my german learning decisions
it all depends on what uni i would like to go, but so far i am seeing german taught masters
Is a Vorabzustimmung zum Visum given for an Ausbildung?
Odds of flying to Germany, getting a job within three months, and getting a work visa?
I need a place to live in Pforzheim, if anyone can help, please contact
would depend heavily on your field and other factors (Read: german abilities)
Ay I got some questions about Germany can any of y’all help a homie out
Just ask your questions here
Yea I would but it’s mildly private unfortunately
What topics does it concern

Ich bin dein Mensch
danke

after u finish with visa and housing
i have 1 more month time im stressing if i forgot anything
Does anyone know how to pursue a career as a pre-school teacher in Germany as a foreigner?
As in if you need a bachelors degree in teaching? Or is a certificate of qualification enough? And the language level?
It's definitely possible if your qualifications fit the German standards for teachers and of course you have to be on a very high level when it comes to your german skills. I've just read that it's very complicated to make those applications and often doesn't work as planned
I think the best would be if you contact the BAMF for more information
Currency exchange, Forex card, packing, tickets.
anyone else have bad experiences with dpd
DHL: carries our 20 kilo animal food up 2 flights of stairs

i bought my plane ticket as well...hope visa wont fuck me up
I am from a non-EU country, so I need to get cash Euro and a foreign travel card for the initial days atleast.
im non eu too
ah for Euros of course
but i lost it at the forex card
oh a prepaid card
easier definition
I will just get some cash tbh
for October I will need to survive on cash
then by end of month I will have opened the current account...hope by november ill get the money from the sperrkonto or ill starve
It is recommended to get cash (and card - since it is a lot of cash otherwise) for sustaining atleast a month.
Also, get your train tickets beforehand to avoid the last minute hassle.
Btw, you will be going to which university?
TU Dresden
I booked my flight on the 3rd
by 5th october I will have the keys at the dorms
hmmm I will need the residence permit first to open a current account I think
Ohh great. I will be going to Saarland University. My flight is on 27th September
Yeah you need to enroll to the university and complete city registration to open bank account
i was gonna ask.
are vapes allowed for ppl a#over the age of 18?
are they sold in gas stations?
Hallo Leute. 🙏
Yes there are vapes
You can get them also at a kiosk
thank you
Guys if i go to germany for a prepatory year, am i supposed to specify first what uni imma go to beforehand or am i supposed to apply just to the prepatory uni then figure it out there

Good morning everyone! A question for friends from Germany: what phone provider do you use and can you recommend any? Thank you in advance!
Ohh, okay
im also curious about this
phone provider and the bank yall use
can anyone answer my question
Do you mean a studienkolleg?
both. it depends on the uni.
In some uni you need to apply directly to studienkolleg and in some u gotta first apply to some bachelor degree, to get the of. U dont really need to worry about it, cuz u can just change uni or bachelor program after you finish ur studienkolleg.
General question, but what are our thoughts on au pair?
for reference https://www.aupairworld.com/en
is it a good idea to start atleast?

I can recommend O²
Aldi Talk 😄
hi, what is the difference between the "normal university" and "university of applied science"?
So i would like to apply for Ti-course, should i first choose my uni of choice then see if it has a studienkollegen if not apply for any other institute am i supposed to apply for multiple ones? if this information is trivial i apologize
Here's a list of stk and which courses they offer
https://www.studienkollegs.de/Kontaktdaten.html
And just try to get into a kolleg. After ur done with stk u can just change the uni so.. there's that.
If u wanna ask something about stk just dm me
I'm currently in second sem T kurs.
Thank you so much, i definitely will
may i also dm u abou stk in the future?
i am from the US of A and intending to apply for a language visa and am concerned about my letter of motivation being convincing , is anyone here able to give some insight 😵💫 there is also the complication that i am going to be financially supported by my German boyfriend as opposed to having $10k in a frozen account, i hear it is frowned upon to be getting a lang visa when you have a s/o here?
is that fury on your pfp?
asking the important questions here
yeah im sorry
😔
😔
Is it true that a lot of german unis prioritize foreigners who have A2-B1 at least level German?
ithink starting from b1
damn time to start studying
For German taught Programmes the requirements are usually C1
Sure, why not
yeah it actually depends what u want, if u want abitur u need c1, if studkolleg b1-c1
What is difference between abitur and studkolleg
cprrect if om wrong
so if your secondary school certificate is not recognised in Germany, you need to go to studienkolleg first, basically studkolleg is preparatory course before uni, after finishing studkolleg u can attend university
studkolleg last for 1 year
please anyone help him
idk tbh
im sorry 😔
its ok
ty
tho its in german
which country did you get your high school diploma?
USA, California
heres the info if you're looking for direct admission into a Uni if u want to pursue a STEM degree
this is standard for all universities in the US and as well as in Germany
If you don't qualify you have to go to studienkolleg
I am also from California too!
Okay, so based off of this list I’m pretty sure I have almost all of those already done
And I’m in my last year of HS
I did biology, chemistry, and forensic science, I think that covers science right?
@warm hare which AP tests have you taken and what scores did you get on them?
I am also in my last year of HS
rn self studying German in order to take the B2 Exam and pass that
Still haven’t taken AP tests yet
First year doing APs x(
For studienkolleg can you apply for WG or are you likely to not get accepted? Or is it not an option?
for sdk when should i start applying
Does anyone know about the aerospace Masters Programme of TU Braunschweig and FH Aachen? And which is better ?
In German Universities, do we have to decide our core module at the start of the studies from what are available?
Why is it that @chrome mulch and Microsoft Windows aka @next hull answer immediately to questions from other people but my question takes eternity? 😤😤😤
It really depends if anyone can answer your questions or not
yeah like a super specific question about aerospace engineering at 2 unis T_T I could just make something up.
apply for living in a Wohngemeinschaft? Or did you mean something totally different?
you can live in a WG, it has nothing to do with the university
Studentenwohnheim = 'dormitory' (sorta)
Wohngemeinschaft (WG) = shared flat
where do i find statewise divided Unis which offer courses in German for international students?
daad shows barely 300 for bachelors
and only 10 only in german. there's surely more
do you mean a degree program in german?
je
I see now that my question was also ambiguous: do you mean
- you want to major in german
- you are looking for german taught degree programs (if so: in what field)
and followup: what do you mean for international students?
all german bachelors accept international students
for 2 and in informatik
