see for example all three of "if only i had a pet", "only if i had a pet", "if only i had a pet i could", express the frustration and desire to want something but not having it, they are very interchangeable and can carry close meaning to the one you are talking to

for my experience both "if only i had done this.", "only if i had done this." convey similar meanings depending on the context
