The things we observe and measure are things we can 'see', whether this is from visible light or other forms of EM radiation, gamma to radio. However not all events in astronomy could be explained when taking into account pure, observable matter.
One theory of the make-up of dark matter is that they're formed by Axioms.
An Axiom is a subatomic particle that has never been observed or detected, who's properties match our understanding of dark matter; they have mass, so enough of them in a galaxy will have enough gravity to exert an effect upon them, and they don't emit any light, so even a large cloud of them will be 'dark'. The third property of an Axiom is that it barely interacts with 'regular' matter. Clouds of it could be enveloping clusters of galaxies and we'd never see them.
So if we can't observe them by traditional means, how do prove the existence of something like dark matter?
One such way was with Gravitational lensing. With gravitational lensing we can measure (in theory) the mass of the dark matter cluster by the distortion of the objects behind it.
The Bullet cluster is two clusters of galaxies that collided together. Usually, galaxies pass right through each other, however between the galaxies are a huge amount of gas. Upon collision, this gas ploughs into each other, and reaches temperatures high enough to emit x-rays, giving us an idea of where the hot gas is, what shape it took after the collision, and how much it affects the imaging of the objects behind the bullet cluster.
A map of all the mass in the bullet cluster was made, including dark matter. If this dark matter is made of Axioms, it would surround the sub-clusters themselves, as, much like galaxies, the dark matter passes right through each other instead of colliding- and this was found to be true! When mapping the masses, we saw the bow-shaped matter made by the gas left behind, but also mass around the two galaxy clusters that didn't change course, and that gives off no light, which could only be explained by the existence of dark matter.
Anyway, axioms are not the only, but as far as I know, the most supported theory on the make-up of dark matter in physics today.

i like it! not sure how i feel about the portrayal of morality (it's pretty dark) but i love the fantasy elements and would really like to know more about the world the stories are set in. geralt is also not the typical boring antihero too which is nice to read. it's been fun to find out where the show deviated from some of the stories in parts.

Yeah. The short stories are more aligning themselves with old style of fairytales, so I think that's where much of the more exaggerated dark elements come from.
I mean, the saga too is dark but more like the present day style of fantasy tale in comparison.

Like when he was young, he was super idealistic, and then as time goes and he goes through so much messed up stuff, his views get darker and more cynical (around the time of where you're reading), and then develop more nuance as he gets even older from there.
It's kinda cool since it's a series that spans so many decades.
Like if you include the mentions of Geralt's youth, it's almost 100 years.

I like how the stories are told out of chronological order too. I know a lot of people didn't like that in the show but it makes it fun and the foreshadowing is nice

So basically for the witcher series you have this order of books:
The Last Wish (collection of short stories)
Sword of Destiny (collection of short stories)
Blood of Elves (first book of the saga)
Other books of the saga (order is easy to look up at this point)
Season of Storms (new book written much later than the rest)
If you want to read it the totally chronological way, just read it in this order. However, the short stories have a fairly different style from the main saga.

The short stories are a take on the old style of fairytale sort of like Grimm style but a bit of modern influence mixed in.
So you might find that you start to read them and not like them? Kinda depends on personal preference.

Season of Storms actually takes place at the same time as The Last Wish, but since it was written so recently, it's fine to not read it. I haven't read it yet so I can't recommend if it has any spoilers or not.
And tbh it doesn't even matter if you start the saga and then read the short stories in the middle of the saga.
As long as you read them before the last book as there are some important connections there.

imo the series doesn't make too much sense without knowing the books, i imagine it would feel rather hectic without that knowledge
sometimes they drop rather important facts almost en passant, and if you don't know what they're talking about you don't even notice
thing is they tried to stuff A LOT of stuff in it that should have imo been diluted into more episodes
but people seem to generally criticise the way the timeline is managed whereas i quite liked it
sure it can be confusing but figuring stuff out is part of the fun there

the articulation was often forced and monotone
Some of the visuals were spectacular and every scene was well produced
just felt it was let down in pace and in some of the actors they chose, though the lead was very good
but I have zero experience of the books and only just got the game over christmas for nintendo switch

Maybe you misremembered the "heavily modified" part or someone misunderstood it?
But I think it's just the Aurora Engine (which Neverwinter Nights is built with) but a lot of the visual 3D stuff is rewritten.

except for the ones that come with the paper which gets left on the doorstep, our mailbox is thankfully rather empty. I think it helps dramatically that our mailboxes are inside the lobby area. I think deutsche post has a front door key or some way to get to the mailbox. the bottom couple of floors of our building are also a bar/restaurant and festhalle so I don't know if the people paid to drop fliers ever realise that people also live in the building

just not necessarily the other way round
