Hmmm. B2 is a tricky point because you are essentially bridging a gap between A1-B1 (which is mostly grammar) and C1+ (which is mostly vocab/speaking practice). You have a lot of the more difficult grammar to practice, but also tons of vocab to study. I guess I would just say, make sure you are covering all skills: writing, reading, speaking, listening, vocab and grammar. That goes for all levels but it's especially relevant for B2.

I just want to have a better understanding about how the meaning/connotation changes in a sentence if punctuations or words order changes.

Maybe I should put three sentences that I want to compare with together, in case the way I asked the question might be a little confusing.
Despite the weird sounding of sentence2, (Anthea has already explained why), but just for the purpose of parsing the grammatical components and their function, I'll still use it to compare with sentence 3 & 4.

2. One day, when I walked home after school, a young man dressing himself well got close to me. (dressing himself well should be the present participle phrasal form functioning as an adjective postmodifier to the noun-a young man, indicating an on-going action)
3. One day, when I walked home after school, a young man, dressing himself well, got close to me. (dressing himself well should be an adverbial modifier component)
4. Dressing himself well, a young man got close to me when I walked home after school one day. ( same as 3)

So, I think my question can be boiled down to one.
When present participle phrase functions as an adverbial component in a sentence, does it still have the same indication of an on-going action as when it functions as an adjective postmodifier to a noun or noun phrase?
More examples of functioning as adverbial components for your references
　Arriving in Paris, I lost my way. (present participle phrasal form indicating a time)
　Having smoked too much, he has suffered from lung cancer. ( present participle phrasal form indicating a cause)
　The fire lasted nearly a month, leaving nothing valuable. (present participle phrasal form indicating a result)
In the above examples, none of the present participle phrases has a strong on-going connotation, right?
So go back to my question, do you think that sentence 3 & 4 has the same connotation of the young man is dressing himself as he's walking towards me as in sentence 2? What is your opinion?

I think you're mistaken. 3 and 4 imply the man is dressing himself concurrently with the action of getting close to you, whereas in 2 the action is just that he gets close to you, and "dressing himself well" only signifies that he is well dressed (which seems to be habitual for him)
