not sure. I think the average person would need a moment to understand what that letter is
and the last thing you want to do as a copywriter is making people think
i heard somewhere that the harder it is to read something the more likely youre gonna remember the content
provided you do actually read and eventually understand it
@arctic atlas @nocturne frost Do you want to play a tts game with me and Milly sometime this week?
oh yeahh, I thought we were doing secret hitler this weekend actually 😄
^
👀
no no its what I thought was happening, I just assumed too
also yesssss
please 🙏
Assumed how?
Did we make a date?
sounds good
when though?
I'm good with evening, I've made plans for the whole day tomorrow
you got work millie?
Yes.
naw damn, wanna chill with it after?
With what?
the game 😄
Oh I see.
doesn't she get off work at 1am or so ? 😩
Tell me how many hours from now.
You don't have to change the date for me!
yeah it entirely depends on what ya'll are ok with, I can stay up til 6am or so that evening if its better for millchen
(I wasn't even invited to Syros Party anyway
)
to my party ?
lmao
There will be popcorn but it will be made from geckos.
Schleich dich, Kellerdenkweise
sagt bescheid wenn ihr mit eurem ehestreit fertig seid

Erst, wenn er endlich die Garage aufräumt.
Das verspricht er mir schon seit Monaten.
Wir haben keine Garage weil du nicht genug arbeitest.
But if you play Pandemic with me I will forgive you.
Sunday night for you, right?
yup
Okay, seems good.
Dato
Hallo alle, wie geht's? Mein Deutsch ist nicht gut, aber ich lerne 😂
Scheint mir gar nicht so schlecht zu sein.
Oh, danke. Ich habe vielleicht nicht genug zu sehen.
I had to use GTrans for that second sentence 😂
ANd I just realized how it's wrong.
Ich have nicht genug gesagt, um vielleicht zu sehen.
Ja, jetzt kann ich dich aber nicht mehr wirklich verstehen.
Oh toll 😂 I don't even know if I'm saying that right.
I haven't been that serious about learning, I've just been doing it slowly.
I like to see the progress though, since I can half understand what peoplesay.
What did you want to say, exactly?
"I haven't seen enough to see maybe."
Which is ironic since that sentence is where you saw how bad I was 😂
That doesn’t even really make sense in English, though.
Ah, alright, thanks.
yeah i think even in English it would make more sense to say maybe at the start of the sentence but it's a little slangier (at least in English) to put it anywhere
es nehme nicht lange zu Irene hassen.
Is this sentence correct? :)
es nehme nicht lange zu Irene hassen.
I do not understand.
It doesn't take long to hate Irene.
That's what I'm trying to say.
Es braucht nicht lange, um die Irene zu hassen.
Irene is a name, so is it okay to put an article before it?
Der Markus und die Maria haben oft mit mir gesprochen.
U can also say:
Markus und Maria haben oft mit mir gesprochen
Which is more common
Ah okay! Thank you so much for explaining it to me!
sie möchte in einer kurzer Zeit eine Architektin werden.
Is this correct?
Ok
Thanks for correcting, once again! 😀 ☺
Nice name @proper remnant
Wer will deutsche Witze hören?
Manche Dialekte benutzen oft einen Artikel vor Namen, aber ich würde nicht sagen, dass es standard ist.
...
xd

i will not buy it myself because i have better use for dat moni
Ich will Monopoly gewinnen
No one wins in monopoly
i do win when i sit there with 30000M and my opponent is broke
you still lost by having played it
I wish society hadnt forgotten the fact where monopoly was supposed to be an enjoyable game
what did i lose
Monopoly is a perfect way to demonstrate opportunity costs
You could have done anything
And it would all have been better than playing monopoly
@rancid agate All your friends
No one will want to play monopoly with you anymore, because you’ll be too good
Saying youre good a monopoly is like saying youre good at rock paper scissors
There is a very light element of strategy but in the end its mostly Chance anyway
@languid heron i never had any to begin with
Then who do you play monopoly with?
I can see why
lol
i just randomly played monopoly with a random guy at school
because there was literally nothing better to do
and did you win?
Money amounts in monopoly mean nothing if we dont know the version
wait M?
I think all monopoly currency should be converted into stadard edition dollars for scientific discussions
all monopolys ive ever seen use an M with a dash
haha my grandma has an old version with schillingen xD
but yeah prly its euros in the new versions
Some monopoly Europe versions use actual euros, afaik
am besten ist monopoly immer noch mit echtem Geld amirite 👀
Dann weiß man wenigstens, was man verliert :^)
🤔
Ne wahrscheinlich gab's da nur die All Around the World Edition :^)
@quiet tangle lust auf lol?
Nein
Wollt ihr was Gutes zum Lesen? (C Niveau)
@nocturne frost @sudden panther @celest robin ahhhhhhhhrg

@lilac dew found your introduction on a Japanese server
ばれた :0
@hot cloak gimme a name please
@peak burrow savage sewage name receiver

nice name 😉 😻
@raven hull love that
What why
Kühl
Let's continue @hidden garnet So what did you say please?
nope they wont
we have permission
in this channel
You don't have permission to keep chatting about this topic, no
-_-''
thats not the problem here, this server is simply not the place to talk about hitler and the like. We're a language server after all
nobody is talking about hitler
he was giving an example about Kamrade word
a simple word
I love when my fav german youtuber say Jawohl
I see
it's sad because they shouldn't be. It was a bad time for everyone, and everyone made mistakes
Once again, this is not about censorship
it is
but moving to DM's will give us the censorship point
anywyas, Amadeus please send us the answer in DM
Alright, let me make myself clear then. The topic is censored, we asked you to stop, if you won't we'll ban you
It's as easy as that
Why is this a problem lol?
Do you, like, think that censorship is some sort of elemental evil and discussion always benefit from being free for all thunderdomes?
I think that if you don't understand the need for people to choose their words appropriately to environment, you are still a child, no matter how old are you.
Like, there is a reason, for example, scientific publications - the ur-example of merit-first environment - censor quality of submissions heavily. Because it makes quality of what passes through better.
There are cases where censorship is bad, naturally. But to prove the claim of it being bad in this particular case, you have to defend your position on it, as opposed to just crying "censorship" and expecting it to be an argument in and of itself.
You don't, but nobody really cares about it being censored per se, unless you give us a valid reason to think that this particular case is a bad thing.
The topic is censored, we asked you to stop, if you won't we'll ban you
Probably because of this.
I share part of the fault for accidentally provoking him to keep going, I suppose.
It wasn't your fault ctulhi
No, it was not. I do not do baiting, not when I am entering a serious discussion.
Yeah, but it was inconsiderate of me to start talking about the topic to a person who was explicitly asked to stop or risk expulsion, because he could not respond without getting banned, not really.
And arguing with a person who cannot respond is quite rude. And dumb.
Sorry, our bans are permanent
this was unnecessary. I know he will learn with this and grow up as a person. A permanent ban is not a solution when he was expressing his opinion.
you're entitled to your opinion but that won't change the outcome of our ban
all of our bans are permanent, for everything else we have temp-lock outs
I see..
now, I'd prefer if you all stopped discussing his ban
Got it.

I believe that #general-2 is supposed to be the channel of #german-only - lite. So, it's preferable to use German, but you can use English if you cannot phrase it in German properly.
Oh wait.

In philosophical ethics, the term naturalistic fallacy was introduced by British philosopher G. E. Moore in his 1903 book Principia Ethica. Moore argues it would be fallacious to explain that which is good reductively, in terms of natural properties such as pleasant or desira...
just because its that way doesnt mean its supposed to be like that

@timid fern @opaque fossil do you need both accounts?
der Zeit(genitive) @livid tangle I think
Oh right! Thank you so much!! 😄 😃
@livid tangle I think what you mean is "Kein Geld der Welt hat jemals auch nur eine Sekunde erkaufen können."
"No money of the world has ever been able to buy even a second of time"
Your sentence is not wrong, it's correct except what Peyami Safa mentioned (in terms of language)
Oh sorry
@pallid kindle you're right, don't worry 😄
@hot cloak Wow. That sentence is far too complex for me lol. What is that clause called? Also, what does auch mean here? 😅 😀
This is just a normal main clause but it looks more complicated than it is because it has some words/phrasing that beginners might not learn about.
Ooh. I thought it was a different clause because it has 3 verbs. Anyway, thank you both so much!! ☺ 😀
It has a special type of verb structure called double infinitive. You don't need to know about it now but it's a very weird form that happens when you have the perfekt tense of modal verbs. @livid tangle
Yo, don't be teaching them to speak incorrectly, here's a guide https://www.colanguage.com/double-infinitive-german
That seems like a good page but I still don't recommend a beginner to learn it, at least until they feel comfortable with other verb rules.
I really don't want to be an ass here, but why is my recommendation to not focus on cases from the getgo harmful (and the continuation of talking about it worthy of repercussions), but is the recommendation not to learn about the way verbs function from the getgo completely fine?
If anything, verbs are much more important than cases
Because you have to learn grammar in layers. You start small and gradually build on top of that foundation.
Things that are niche, uncommon, or exceptions are often left until after you learn the common/basic rules.
Double infinitive is not needed a lot, and it is an exception. It makes no sense to learn an exception before learning the rule you're making an exception to.
Humans are only capable of learning so much. You can't instantly absorb all grammar in one day. You have to build it up one idea at a time.
And so there is a sensible order to learn these things.
Are you saying that not using the more difficult subjects in grammar correctly doesn't lead to having trouble doing it the correct way later?
Yes, absolutely.
But learning cases incorrectly from the beginning leads to really bad habits.
Of course it's fine for beginners to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. No one has to be perfect.
I quote "incorrect German which will then harm their ability to learn German as the difficulty increases."
Now you're claiming the opposite
I'm not claiming the opposite at all. And I stand by that quote. If you learn the basics wrong, if your foundation is wrong, you will be very confused when the sentences get harder.
You start learning the basics with small sentences. Yes, the sentences might be understandable if you make a mistake. But if you don't learn the ideas in the beginning, you will be stuck having no idea what's going on later when you try to learn more complex stuff.
Because you will have no basis to fall back on.
The video I sent before showed a man learning Arabic from scratch without getting corrected or picking up a single textbook or loading a single online page of grammar up to fluency
@silk locust
It completely disproves your point (unless you think the video is fake)
I'd argue that Arabic is much harder for an English speaker to learn than German as well
It doesn't completely disprove anything. One person made a video about one person learning a language a particular way. That's great for him, if the video is real. It has no bearing on reality though.
Yeah, by denying it that way there's really no point to this at all, there's countless of people who learned a language by the method I described and fully documented examples of individuals doing so can't get you to admit that it's actually not harmful at all. I could just as well say "Hey, there's people who learned a language by studying grammar all day, but that doesn't mean it works for everyone."
One can learn a language with no lessons, that's the way how immigrants learn
But it may be much longer and you still can be not fluent after many years
Yes, you can learn with no lessons, absolutely.
But yes, learning without any understanding of grammar usually leads to very broken German.
Exactly
There's literally 7 billion people on this planet who've learned to speak a language fluently by the method I described, you included
At least, may lead to that
Unless you're saying you didn't speak any language and your parents put a grammar book under your nose when you were a 4 year old
Toddlers and adults learn differently.
Yes, but learning a mother tongue differs from learning another language
Because you use a different method, sure their grey matter is more kneadable, that doesn't matter in this method, though
I mean, I learned English the same way I learned my mother tongue
But English is an exception
Yeah, I can't comment on English as I'm a native speaker. I can only comment on German.
I mean, that method can be fruity and lead to become fluent but most people learn step by step, grammar and vocab, and can achieve that as well, probably faster
Because you can't go anywhere without seeing English
And for German, everyone I've met who has tried to learn it without understanding the basics of grammar has had a really awful time.
Exposing yourself to German is WAY more difficult
If we talk about English I can agree but you still can use broken English
Check the videos I posted in #questions @tardy topaz
Every person I've talked to who claims you can learn German by avoiding grammar has remained around A1 for a long time and never improved.
The method is proven to be faster than other methods
For exmaple, conditionals in English
With no lessons maybe I would still not know to use them properly
Why do you argue against the experiences of "one person" one moment and then make an anecdotal argument yourself the other moment, Base?
The method I'm arguing for doesn't say you can't learn grammar at all, it just says you should only start looking into grammar once you're already fluent
Just to iron out the last bits
@hot cloak Because, I am meeting your logical fallacy equally. Both of us can cite anecdotal experiences about this.
@fringe tartan, when you don't eat long enough, you are hungry -> 0 conditional
when you learn enough, you will get a good mark -> 1. conditional
etc.
Except one anecdotal experience actually proves that something doesn't have to be harmful and yours only gives examples of people who didn't learn anything by the same method, we still have proof that it does not have to be harmful
Sorry but a youtube video is not proof*
And I think this discussion is not going anywhere.
So let's end it here.
Yeah, that dude who has a PhD of surely is lying on the internet for fame
Those 20.000 views are really important to him
He's not even selling anything?
Why would he lie?
I think learning a language is too complex to say surely which method is the most effective
It depends on a person
Absolutely, Thingoln.
You can literally see him speaking with hundreds of people and traveling through an Arabic speaking country, speaking the language with people
Everyone learns differently. But encouraging people to learn broken German is still not okay, even then. 😄
Definitely a hoax
No one has claimed it is a hoax, Zerhacker. Only that it is not justification for bad learning methods.
By all means learn the language as Zerhacker's video suggested, but there will be people that have contrasting experiences to it. I don't really understand why there seems to be a debate for who is right here :/
I also don't understand why.
I have two friend who learnt a language by immersion, just hearing it around them 24/7
I didn't encourage anyone to learn broken German, you were just "calling me out" for encouraging harmful methods even though I posted multiple instances of people who argued for my case. If I were actually posting things like "Der Mann isst der Hund. is a correct sentence" you would have been completely fair, but now you're just saying "my opinion is the right one and other opinions aren't allowed in this server"
What makes your opinion better than mine?
Not at all. Feel free to share your opinions on learning methods.
I will only step in if it's something blatantly false or harmful.
Otherwise, you are free to discuss as you please.
You just gave two examples where the method I'm arguing for was actually succesful, it's just that the one guy who became fluent but still makes mistakes still has polishing to do, Thingoln
No one was saying it was impossible though
It's just that if you admit that it is possible, what about it makes it harmful?
Why would I be able to do it, but you wouldn't?
Because it's not recommended
There are many things you can do which are possible but they definitely aren't the recommended method
Exactly.
It's recommended by professional linguist Steve Kaufmann, as well as others
And people might not find his methodology beneficial
Agree with Hack here
Then I guess it's just a subjective thing of whether you think it is or isn't
You may get bad habits
And to be fair, where's your source for it not being the recommended method?
And sometimes (I don't know if it is present in a language learning but may be) it is hard to change something you are used to
Stephen Krashen is another linguist who argues for the comprehensible input method
Kids make a billion mistakes until actually forming entire sentences and in the end they all turn out fine
Do they claim that learning grammar is harmful to your learning?
The comprehensible input method?
What's their source?
It's nuanced, it goes like this: learning it in the beginning stunts you because you're too focussed on things like getting the grammar correct to actually be interacting with the language in an effective way. It's been proven that just correcting someone on things (someone might say "Giving me the apple" instead of "Give me the apple" and then they'll be corrected by someone saying "It's Give me the apple") is one of the most ineffective ways of actually helping someone improve. They argue that if you get enough comprehensible input you'll be able to get it right anyway just by absorbing more information. If you pick up a grammar book after you're already more advanced and forming entire sentences it's no problem according to the comprehensible input method.
I think they have some sources in the very first video I sent (the longer documentary style one)
If you hear sentences like "Die Frau ist wunderschön" often enough in a context where you understand the sentence, you'll learn things like "ist" is used for the third person singular automatically without thinking about it, as opposed to just mashing tables of conjugations into your head
There are dozens of different methods to learn a foreign language. Depending on the learner's goals and learning preferences, some methods will be more effective compared to others. A lot of people, credible and non-credible alike, present their own method as being better than the others in some way.
In the end, the good old fashioned method of sitting down with a textbook, a grammar, and a dictionary, and just going at it, has been tried and tested for centuries, and it will probably work for you too if you put the necessary effort in.
Most of the other 'modern' methods have serious drawbacks, and even if you're able to hold a conversation far sooner than a traditional learner, you're going to hit a massive roadblock if you don't at least have a basic grasp of grammar rules.
I get that, although the context in which you deliver it is equally as important, no? If someone kind of says the sentence offhandedly as native speakers are more often known to do to someone else "Die Frau ist wunderschön" the person on the receiving end would take a lot longer to comprehend what they're saying. This is coming from someone who does theatre with people who definitely do not speak English as their first language. Gesture and intonation help a lot in a speaking context anyway.
My method is actually older and has been in fashion much longer than the traditional methods. People in ancient times learned language of neighbouring countries without textbooks and without formal teaching, Abermals.
Writing/reading and speaking/listening are two very different skills though, right?
That's not exactly the way my method works, Luka.
The video explains it in a more nuanced manner.
I would even say all 4 skills are very different and need to be practised individually. Add onto that grammar and vocabulary, for 6 things you need to uniquely practice.
The on I just gave is just an approximated/ shortened explaination.
Sure, but the amount of input you need to learn a language this way is out of reach for most learners. Sitting at your computer and listening to youtube videos all day is not a substitute for actually living in the country of the language you're learning.
Agreed
Absolutely. Even if you live in the country, while the input is definitely hugely beneficial, you probably still need to sit down and study part of the time.
Listening and speaking are the main things, writing and reading are easy once you know how to apply the first two skills
I can't really do much else than chat with Germans on Discord or watch things actively in German as I don't have the means to live in Germany
Whether we like it or not living in the country is just a more effective way of learning the language
That's true.
750 hours of German to get to B2 fluency using the natural method according to the state department of the united states, that's about an hour a day for two years
Definitely not as crazy as you think it is
In theory sure but is that going to actually happen?
I know that, that's not what I'm saying
They have numbers, but the individual human experience is different to the statistical mathematic experience
````The following language learning timelines reflect 70 years of experience in teaching languages to U.S. diplomats, and illustrate the time usually required for a student to reach “Professional Working Proficiency” in the language, or a score of “Speaking-3/Reading-3” on the Interagency Language Roundtable scale. These timelines are based on what FSI has observed as the average length of time for a student to achieve proficiency, though the actual time can vary based on a number of factors, including the language learner’s natural ability, prior linguistic experience, and time spent in the classroom.```
How does 70 years of a lot of individual experiences piled up sound?
Okay, sure, have fun in the "Haha gotcha" moment, but it is still a statistic, not an guarantee.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A4e-AMTMAM here's a good video
I don't see any mention of the method in that link anyway.
Yeah, that's the wrong link, can't find the other one rn
Shouldn't really matter, though. There's a bunch of other informative links I posted
It's not the information I'm really too fussed about, it's just a bit less black and white than that is all I'm saying
Yeah, agreed.
It's pretty much never a question of "all grammar" or "all immersion".
A normal learning program incorporates both as much as needed.
I usually have (from what I have available) immersion with spurts of grammar or vocab research when I feel up to it
M'hm. Anything that keeps you motivated is definitely good.
And grammar is certainly not something people should feel forced to learn. But nearly every time someone is getting stuck and struggling, it's because they chose to avoid learning grammar.
That's just how it is.
TL% raise in education is actually a factor that has been on the rise for many years, with many professionals now teaching 80% or even 90% of their classes in the TL
And if spending 5 minutes studying a grammar point can instantly clear up the confusion, it's obviously the best approach to that issue.
It's so much more efficient than forcing yourself to struggle through listening to sentences over and over and having no idea why your sentence is wrong while someone else's is correct.
Also I'm not arguing purely for immersion, you can live in a country for years and still not speak the language. Comprehensible input is all about creating moments in which you're actively interacting, observing and participating in many non-verbal ways
Well, to be fair, you did say that people shouldn't learn grammar until they are fluent, lol.
Yes, and I'm still saying that
When people say immersion they think just watching a movie or reading a book is enough, but that's not at all what I'm arguing
Let's not go round in circles, it seems to have gone back on itself again.
Whom pang
Sorry, Luka. I was just trying to solidify the point of grammar in case anyone who's a beginner is reading this and trying to learn more about the process.
Oh
5 minutes of studying grammar will clear up the confusion and then the person who's been corrected will make the mistake a thousand times more
Not at all.
Niederbauer can affirm because we've told him per se is written per se a million times and he still writes per sé very often
@opal sequoia Nah it's chill I found it kinda funny to be honest but still
Good for Niederbauer, I guess
I guess for me it's just the kind of information which is evident from experience. Most of the learners here will understand from experience the benefit of learning a rule instead of struggling with intuitive approaches. And many beginners who are here will have the same experiences in future.
And I look forward to it because it's very fun when everyone is helping each other better understand the language. 😄
And of course it's not always the case that you should learn a rule before learning intuitively. Different areas of languages are learned differently too.
If I may add another piece of anecdotal evidence, my mother speaks fluent German and she never learned any grammar either, she doesn't make grammatical mistakes and works in Germany as well. Just to at least get the "German is different from English because dae English easy lol" myth out of the way. (my mom definitely isn't some unbelievable genious)
I've gotta go to bed now.
Sleep well.
Thanks, same to you
I wish I was your mother (in the learning German kinda way not actually be your mum)
But nighty night!
👀
Ich habe einen LKW voller Fleisch und bin bereit, es zu liefern.
Wohin?
Mallorca
Und wie wird die Übersendung nach Mallorca stattfinden?
Ich habe noch keine Ahnung.
Es gibt nur wenige Leute, die mit einem LKW voller Fleisch umgehen können. Darum bin ich ausgewählt, der LKW zu fahren.
Aber ich dachte bis je noch nie darüber nach wie ich es schaffen sollte
Klingt nach einer erfüllenden Aufgabe.
Es macht mir wohl Angst, denn ich habe gehört, dass sich viele Elfen nach dem Inhalt meines Trucks sehnen.
Magie erschreckt mich
Wie bitte? Du hast einen LKW voller Fleisch? was habe ich denn hier verpasst 😆
Ja, ich habe einen LKW voller Fleisch, aber halte es geheim.
Der BND weiß nichts davon
...bis du es hier offengelegt hast 😆
Nein ich benutze ein VPN 😎
VPN ist die gang
@opal sequoia gibt es hier einen Kanal, um über Mathematik zu sprechen?
@elder nebula Ja, #science
Man kann >sub Science in #botchannel schreiben um ihn zu sehen.
Heyo lovely people! You might have seen this already over at #gaming but me and @nocturne frost are organizing a server tournament of the game Diplomacy, which we still need 2 more people for:
Diplomacy is a strategic board game set in 1900s Europe, which unlike other war games does away with randomness and complexity and lets players spend much of their time forming and betraying alliances with each other and forming beneficial strategies. It is uniquely suited to postal and web play where players don’t all have to present at the same time.
Diplomacy is a turn-based game in which everyone’s moves are resolved simultaneously. We would like our game to progress by one turn every 3 days, with players being able to submit their moves anywhere within those 3 days. Submission itself should take no longer than a few minutes, however certain turns might require communication with other players, which should not take more than an hour (it is possible to play this game with turns that last 15 minutes).
Because this game is interaction-focused, we would prefer players who are active on this discord. Since this is German learning server, communication in german is preferred but not required.
For any newcomers to the game we're gonna be holding one or more introductory sessions with example rounds/explanations to get you into the groove before we start.
If you are interested in claiming one of the two spots that are left or have any questions regarding this thing feel free to DM either me or @nocturne frost . Anybody at any level is welcome and it'd be an absolute pleasure to have you there!
Alrighty lads, it seems we have the 7 peeps we need!
Friendship ended between everybody playing
now nobody is my best friend
wow nvm ;_; ❤
❤️❤️❤️
Ayy ich habe meine Deutsche Prüfung gemacht, und es war sehr gut!!! Finally we've finished gcses
Sagt mal, wie kriege ich eigentlich diese "Role" in meinem Profil ? ^^
#282831147942281216 zu lesen wär auch nicht schlecht.
Was ist das? Hab ich noch nie gesehen
Anyone knows some really good sources to learn vocabulary? I don't really like memrise (and duolingo is bad for learning words) [please tag me]
explain resources
The resource list of the German Learning and Discussion Discord server. Join us at https://discord.gg/german Grammar: Schenke and Seago - Basic German Miell and Schenke - Intermediate German Hammer’s German grammar and usage, 4th edition pdf Modern German grammar: A pract...
Well if really wanna grind vocab you could turn apps you use like Steam, Spotify, your phone, Netflix etc into German and just learn vocab
I just try pickup vocab online then find some on vocab lists and add em to anki and learn them
@wary sigil tried Anki? Ankidroid on android
it's kind of like memrise though
except decks are user made
I'll try it. Thanks!
@wary sigil Do you want to make Anki decks together?
I have to study a heck of a lot of vocabulary (DE-NL and NL-DE), including the plural forms. I started making it into Anki decks, but I gave up after two weeks or so
schwäcke?
Schwäche
thanks 😄
How do I say "try spareroom.co.uk if it's just for a few months"? Responding to a German speaker in my area who's needing accomodation
@mighty cradle Try it.
I genuinely don't know any of those words except Monaten ?? I'm very new
I don't even think I've got that right
It's not for my learning I'm just helping someone out who might get homeless otherwise X
we usually don't just translate things for people but I'll make an exception in this case since you actually want to prevent someone from being homeless. I'd use "Bitte versuche es mit website.xyz, wenn es nur für ein paar Monate ist"
today i learned this cool word https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/heckle and thought of @nocturne frost
wie wäre es mit einfach 'versuche website.xzy' ?
🇧🇪 ?
DACHLieBe
heh, good one
but what about pennsylvania german u.u
DACHLieBeLu hört sich nicht so schön an
<@&305455824174710787>
now i want to complain about something that happened on the italian server the other day xd
in full knowledge that the person may well be present on this server but idc
it just was a link which when you click on you get for a couple of seconds on a nonexisting channel
it's nothing harmful
i just found it funny
fairs, we just get lots of people who post links to servers in order to bypass the invite detection
was heißt fairs?
= fair enough
thanks
someone tried to advertise a popular language learning app by posting in the resource channel and writing as if they were a regular user advertising something they had had good experience with
but with very suspicious phrasing
and claiming clearly untrue things, as this particular app has a habit of doing
i guess be aware that some people act as consumers in order to make unsolicited and undisclosed advertising pass for actual testimonials. Haven't seen it happen here though
Yet
in other news, eating at mcdonalds every day has really improved my german and simplified chinese
...what
YOU GET FAT
dang, that was in 2004
I do remember him getting really high blood pressure and stuff, and his doctor was like "please stop"
not just pressure, cholesterol was all over the place obviously, and super high glycaemia
Cholesterol is a naturally occurring hormone in the human body, it’s when you have too much cholesterol from things you eat that it’s bad
lmfao y'all gotta check this test https://www.languagelevel.com/german/index.php
Free tests of English and Spanish. Quelle est votre niveau d'anglais ou espagnole? Comprueba su nivel de español o inglés. Wie Ihr Englisch gut ist
It decided I was level C2 after just 15 questions
Anyone got any links to any good tests?
That also incorporate listening and stuff like that perhaps
https://i.imgur.com/Ne56igb.png broken test smh
lmfao wut
@hot cloak Do you have a deck?
A what?
Yeah Goethe just told me
Excellent! Your German skills are almost perfect.
So I'mma change to level B rn
Just needed a moment to brag if y'all don't mind
@hot cloak you shouldn't skip over random parts of the things I (or anyone) write. I said "cholesterol was all over the place", not "he had cholesterol".
You shouldn't assume my intentions
I was contributing to the conversation, nothing else
Lol wait what
I didn't assume anything, i detected it from the phrasing and context. I've been a smartass for most of my life, i can tell when someone wants to randomly boast their knowledge
Lol yeah ok whatever floats your boat bud
Someone should make a language placement test that uses machine learning and dynamically chooses different questions to narrow it down
Ein zwei drei vier Hütchen von Hütchen von
@pallid kelp A job for you.
something like that has been on my mind for a while, i have actual notes on it :D
the harder part would be devising an accurate metric for proficiency and creating questions accordingly
Yeah
(i'm going to bed so ping me if you have anything to add and i'll read later)
Well you could do a supervised learning thing with enough people giving their test results I guess
guten abend zusammen
Heyo Parker, #general-2 has been a little bit quieter than usual without you
Und die Englischsprachler hat die Kanal übernimmt
Diese Englischsprachler 😠
😅
@hot cloak Hast du dich zurechtgefunden?
@oak rivet Hallo, Max. Lange nicht gesehen.
@mighty rock Hallo. Mal eine Frage.
@warm geyser
Ja doch ^^
So langsam komme ich hier klar
@warm geyser Hallloo jetzt bin ich ein bisschen freier
ayyy Was geht
Ich bin sooooo müde ehrlich
Ich habe 6 Prüfungen seit 2 Wochen gemacht, voll stressig
guys in my anki deck, is there anyway i can switch the contents of the front card to the back and vice versa? w/o swtiching for each card individually?
if anyone knows how please ping me 😃
Is there an existing deck that deos what you want?
are u asking me?
Yeah 👀
no i am making a personal deck.
with all the words i didnt know....
and i jus realised i wanted the enlgihs word on the front
instead of the back
I know but is there one that functions the way you like
If so you can use it as a template
I have a deck that auto switches
I don't know how it decides when to show the front and when the back
hmmm, i have never used many decks so i wil have to look..... but when i transfer my cards to this "deck template", will the front and back switch?
I'll send you the link to the deck
Unfortunately you have to start from scratch
Tonfit the template
There is a way to manually switch as you suggest
hmmm...... i guess thesee 50 cards i will have to edit again.
And I'll ping you when I'm at work in about 30
yah sure 😃
In my own made template I have a field that if I put something in it will switch from front to back
oh ookk.... so if i import my cards to urs, the content will switch front to back and back to front?
This deck will switch from front to back automatically. It does a couple interesting thing, like show you the plurals
@feral orchid
It has a lot of errors, but I like how it's organized.
The Infotafel is at the entrance. OwO?
I don't even know what that means lol
Oh yeah lol
It didn't even bother translating that part
danke traxi. i will try it with my deck....
i can merely delete all their content right
i will tell u if it works. 👌🏻
If you encounter difficulties let me know and maybe I can help.
@mighty rock Bist du der Typ, der viele Instrumente spielt?
Seit wann duzen Sie?🙂@warm geyser
👁u👁
Aber man soll immun gegen Kritik sein, oder? 🙂@warm geyser (das kann man sagen?)
Sie sollen nicht folgen was schlimm ist, und unhoeflich ist, und duzen ist beides.
Sollte ich nicht duzen?
Ja das bin ich haha @warm geyser
Das kann ich nicht sagen, musst jeder Meschen selbst entscheiden
@mighty rock Super! Lange nicht gesehen.
😠
Versuchst du mich auszulösen
@mighty rock Du solltest dich lieber nicht mit der Katze assoziieren
Ich hoffe dass ich morgen frei sein werde haha
Er ist neidisch.
In der echten Welt, benutzt man am meistens siezen.
Außer du möchtest sie auf die Spieße genommen essen
Richtig.
Das ist das 2019 style
Du kannst Deutsch.
Nein ich verstehe ehrlich nur Bahnhof tbh
Ich würde dich davon abraten, BDSM mit der Katze auszuprobieren
Aha.
Aber das liegt an dir
Hilfe!
@mighty rock Was gibt es Neues, Herr Musiker?
Ich möchte sterben as per usual, so viel zu studieren
Aber morgens werde ich trinken gehen, so es ist alle cool
Gute Lösung.
Das war Spaß.
Und mit dir?
Wir können alle interessante Dingen machen, es ist nur eine Wahl
