Prep+article tends to be more in relative clauses and such: "Da ist das Ball, nach dem ich gestern Abend suchte." However, I'm not sure if there's any further nuance to it, since I can't think of a time where I've used prep+wer/wen/wem, so a native speaker should probably clarify that.
If anything, I'd assume that you'd use prep+wen/wem/wessen when you would expect a person to be related to the action. "Mit wem bist du ins Kino gegangen?" "Mit Bob". Is that right, native speakers?

Was habe ich heute erlebt?...
Heute habe ich erneut meinen Vater in Düsseldorf besucht.
Ich habe in seinem Büro an der Website gearbeitet. Auch habe ich einige Akten sortiert und im System gepflegt.
Danach sind wir zusammen bei ein Franzosen um die 'Ecke' essen geganngen. Es war sehr lecker!
Nach ein paar Flaschen Wein, die wiruns als Gruppe geteilt haben, musste ich die Freunde meines Vaters und ihn verlassen.
Ich musste schließlichschleunigst nach Köln zurück!
Dort bin ich zu der Bar gefahren, wo meine Freundin gearbeitet hat.
