Zijn psycholoog-vader Sedat Baker werd door de echtgenoot van zijn getrouwde minnares vermoord in een hotelrestaurant. Toen Ulus een kind was, was er oorlog op Cyprus. Hun huis werd beschoten. Zijn vader werd gegijzeld. Of het nu door al deze trauma’s komt of niet, hij legde het glas nooit neer.
Op een bewolkte ochtend in juli 2007 werd zijn genie-lichaam het drinken teveel en stierf hij op 47-jarige leeftijd. Zijn graf is in Lefkoşa, Cyprus – ga eens kijken. Op zijn eenvoudige graf liggen wodkaflessen, gedichten, Samsun216-pakjes, albumhoezen, boeken, plectrums, van alles en nog wat...
