Hmm meine Beschreibung zu „was“ ist schon wieder etwas vage

Ich sollte es mal aufklären, dass jeder, der vorlesen wollte, ein paar Absätze vorliest dann fasst das, was er gelesen hat, selbst zusammen. Danach kann jeder im Chat nach den Bedeutungen von irgendwelchen Wörtern fragen.

Unser jetziges Kapitel ist deswegen immer noch das 10. und nächste Woche lesen wir vom Anfang des 10. Kapitel an.

Not sure of the ones I've read they've been, in a sense they all can stand alone as shorts, but there's also a thread that ties them together being that you get a sense of a person (momo) and a place.

final devoicing on; b, d and g
sharp z
st and sp words as sht and shp
ß always sounds like english s
umlauts: its important for distinguishing some plurals: e.g. Mutter: Mütter
hard ch (its a new sound thats not in english, it could be worth finding a video to explain it)
soft ch (a video would be good here too to get some other explanations)

Book momo is available here in pinned messages, in case no one told you that already :) no need to wait for libraries to open

Also, if you're in Germany, you can enroll in a local library online, and there's libby app where you can borrow bunch of books and audiobooks all by using the same credentials

I enrolled in some Berlin library, never went to pick up my card, I don't even remember for which one I've even applied, I'm just using online accessible materials, and yearly fee is automatically deducted from my bank account
Plus, there are some other media you can borrow as well, using other apps

In USA I think they use overdrive a lot, which is same software as libby afaik

There's one more beside libby but I forgot which one (libby has english stuff, the other one doesn't)
And also, there's online openlibrary project

That is, if you're not opposed to reading from screens
I mostly read on phone, in bed, with blue filters turned on the highest
Or tablet
Or books

Oh yeah, market of used books here is good as well, buy online and it comes to your doorsteps and they're cheap, depending on what you want

Just some ideas to bridge the waiting period for libraries to open :)

Hey lovely memes, it's time for a few short questions from my end. Maybe some will remember, we used to host listening comprehensions a while ago. I'm currently considering to revive them with some upgrades to the structure. Things that I would need feedback on:

a) What topics would you like to have for such a session? Previously it was mostly history-based topics but I'm open to expand!

b) What difficulty level should we aim for? Total beginner, intermediate or advanced stuff?

a) non-fiction with focus on topics that may be covered in the news frequently, as the work culture in german speaking nations does place importance on keeping up-to-date. Popular (and hopefully public domain) works of fiction that can give insight into the general culture of german speaking nations.
An idea that speaks against this is that maybe those who are learning from materials online or in courses/school may be sick of these topics and want to do something more personalised and modern (books of popular series, memes etc.)
b) beginner-Intermediate. Listening/reading is the skill often far ahead of someones actual level. The majority of the people on the server and thus those who join and gain the most out of lessons are of course level A's and complete beginners. It is also my belief that someone far ahead in their B/C learning will at that point choose their own materials and media to consume, as with their higher language skills comes the benefit of choice, but those on the lower end may struggle to find material they can both engage in and that is appropriate for their level.

Politics, protests, whining about things, false information - flop

Media is full of false info and is really getting on my nerves, so if I can vote against such stuff here, I am 😂

I agree with @tawdry gorge about level, so A2-B1 and B1-B2 materials

I wouldn't aim for A1, but rather nudge those on A1 to persevere and reach A2 faster with more challenging and interesting stuff

b) it seems the difficulty should be more aimed at beginner/intermediate levels.

If you want to participate, no need to apply somewhere, just show up once Bluwu pings everyone that the lesson is about to start. You don't have to know what has happened in the previous chapters to participate (though it's definitely useful to have context). Just do what Bluwu already pointed out in the announcement (modifying your nickname accordingly) and you should be set!

oh as a side note since you are completely new: You'll read usually a paragraph (a bit more if you want to) and then recap what has happened in that paragraph in your own words (in German)

For the momo reading group, no previous knowledge of the book it required (but as Bundesnachrichtendienst said it helps to have some context) the lesson is about mostly comprehension and communicating what you understood, and also what not, discussing new words is an important part too

Its the recommended level, but its open to all and i adjust the exercise a little to different levels

#

The reason B is the recommended level is because the session is run entirely in German, and focuses a lot on comprehension and speaking skills

#

But when thats too much, it changes to more of a practice your pronunciation and explain what you understood, but only if you want to

I ask people who want to read to put a „V“ before their names and those who just want to listen to put a „Z“

This is so i dont spend the majority of the session asking people if they want to read

Then the order follows from the top of the list of people in the voice chat to the bottom

Each person reads outloud as much as they want, anywhere between 1 sentence to 1 page.

Then summaries the passage using their own words

When A levels join, its more like read a bit and well help you with your pronunciation, and if you want to you can also do the summary in either English or German

The last few weeks have been very hectic so i wasnt keen for experimenting.
However With the holidays approaching, i was thinking of running a temporary second reading group and then re-evaluating the time for this one
