First attempt at 25px:

#

It relies heavily on using half pixels to get the Spotify look. There are no errors in this file right now.

I think you should free the icon of the bounds

rocky otter
#

You mean make it bigger?

#

currently the "circle' is smaller that the available space.

honest kraken
#

I mean to prioritize the internal shape and not bother with the circle

rocky otter
#

Oh I see what you mean. Ok I will play with that idea.

#

Perhaps for the larger icons i can bring the circle back, but for 25px, just the lines.

#

I slightly worry that without the boundary it will be hard to recognise as Spotify, but I'll try it and we can see how it looks.

I suspect the reason why pebble never bothered with specific music icons is that

#

those are hard, you might as well show a generic icon

rocky otter
#

I was thinking more about notifications from the Spotify app.

#

But yes, obviously it is never going to be possible to create a Pebble icons for every app out there, so it probably makes sense to focus on generic icons. I have been thinking of a few ideas. Perhaps a delivery truck to represent "Generic Delivery Icon"

(A bank or something as Generic Bank Icon for all my banking apps)

#

that's already a thing with 💸

(I didn’t at all know that’s what Pay Bill was it looked like a mailbox or something)

honest kraken
#

it makes more sense at higher res than 25x25

Still playing with this

that svg is ugly, but I think the rendered version does translate to spotify well

#

or more like this

rocky otter
#

Yeah, maybe. I was initially thinking that 25px would just be lines, and then outlines for the larger sizes, but your idea is good, I think. It would probably stand out way more on the watch.

#

to me the circle is not a design element but just the background, so it doesn't make sense to include

rocky otter
#

Yours looks better than this i think

#

Do you want to finish this one? I think what you've done looks good. It just need scaling up for the other sizes. I've got other icons i could try and do.

maybe when I'm awake tomorrow

(Spotify’s design guidelines definitely consider the circle a core part of the logo but I think manipulating it to work well on the OS is still fine)

#

The circle is the only part they ever color. The rest is always transparency (for their design)

rocky otter
#

yeah, I have wondered about this. Maybe brands won't like having their icon distorted to fit the Pebble style, in a way that goes against their guidelines?

Having said that, it might encourage them to come and create a better one if there is one there to begin with.

I'm well known for committing logo crimes

rocky otter

There is nothing to stop any brand from making a PR.

honest kraken
#

where's the fun in creating things if you don't make them cursed in a way

river thunder
#

They probably care a lot more if you’re making an app that is utilizing the rest of their data than just an icon for notifications

honest kraken
#

I might also play around with angles at the end of the lines

rocky otter
#

I do think Spotify would be a good icon to have, both for Spotify notifications, but also the icon could potentially be used in the music control app itself - it could display it when you are listening to Spotify (rather than the tape icon). It might be useful if the music controls actually indicate the app they are controlling. (for the most common apps anyway).

honest kraken
#

the tape icon is pretty weird size tbf

#

it's a rectangle

#

replacing it might be non trivial

rocky otter
#

It might be easier with the larger screen on the Time 2, maybe? Displaying a lot more icons will probably need the increased resources of the new Pebbles, no? Unless there is some method that icons could be loaded from the mobile app on demand? (so they would not need to be embedded in the firmware). I am not a dev so have no idea if this would technically be possible, but I guess this would be the only get around the hard limits on the watch itself.

oi those look like smooth curves

honest kraken

I am slightly worried about that it looks too smooth
