I’m assuming that was an A320? If so neither your solution nor the one of the commentor is how you should be doing things
As for what went wrong it’s pretty much impossible to tell without having been there
That´s why I want a copliot who can point it out for me directly as it happens
also, i dont know how busy it was but i wouldnt necessarily recommend flying in busy places if you're relatively new
if you fly from/to a calmer airport then controllers have much more time to help out (and id say 90% dont mind helping)
at the time it was 5 departures from manchester and no arrivals.
Basically what I know how to do is import the flight plan from simbrief, choose departure and performance settings etc, takeoff fly manual then engage the autopilot. I never expected to get chewed out for straying from the line on the ND just a little too far, now I get confused about if I even should follow it or not 😂 . And LNAV? Bit lost there... I can fly heading ofc but do I really need to do that on takeoffs when I have been provided a specific departure? Is the route on the ND and autopilot not good enough?
On the Airbus you really need a good reason not to fly in NAV, you shouldn’t be fidgeting around with heading unless you’re assigned a vector or have another good reason to do so. You then follow that by flying the flight director as precisely as you can, or by using the autopilot. This doesn’t absolve you from checking the route in the FMGC vs. the charted procedure and making sure the plane does what it’s supposed to do
Also, you said you were being controlled by LON_WN, that’s an area control sector who has much more to work on than just Manchester, so the departures and arrivals there are a poor measure of the actual workload of the controller
For an example then which airport would you recommend an inexperienced flyer to depart from right now out of these? Manchester fully staffed:
Or...
Arlanda
with just the tower?
