I've well and truly done over 5 of 5 steaks of at least 5 kills. And yet this is stuck at 6 and isn't crossed (text changed to red).
So my mercenaries guild challenge is uncompleted and the last hold up for me in terms of all of the guild challenges even after finishing the story and dlc.
I do not have to start a new game all over again do I?
What is a known fix for this? Has anyone else encountered a glitch/bug like this before?

Is it on the same weapon rack as the "stocco" and the "spadone"? Coz if so, then no I don't have it. So I'm not all fine then.

Yeah there is 2 racks and they each hold 3 heavy weapons each.
1 of the 2 is missing one heavy weapon.

I have purchased all other weapons from the blacksmiths and like every other guild challenges are done. So idk what else this "empty" spot would be other than Bartholomeo's Axe.

AC II worked like that. But in Brotherhood, no. When I completed the assassin's guild challenges, I automatically unlocked the "sword of altaïr"
And it went automatically onto one of the weapon racks. I found it easily, that was there and had it equipped since.
I check the blacksmiths anyway and like I thought, yeah no Bartholomeo's axe there either.

Look it's okay to admit to me if you aren't the best one with the answers here. Hopefully someone else knows more. I did try googling and youtubing this but it's like this issue doesn't exist in the community or so. Thanks for putting in the time to try and help out, I do appreciate it.

Well its just i havent played Brotherhood in awhile, but the 6/5 is just a graphical bug.........check to see its not already equipped if you have the heavy sheathe

Ahh yeah I understand, been playing other ac titles I get that ha. But yeah look I currently have the "sword of Altaïr" equipped and the moment I unlocked that, I never used or equipped another weapon. So the axe should be on the weapon rack and shouldn't be "empty".

When you complete the mercenary challenges, the mercenary crest appears above the fireplace in the armor room
And I think that last challenge is 10 streaks of at least 5 kills
I had the x/5 error too, but I just kept trying it. Eventually, it just fixed itself and then said 10/10

The suggestion is to keep playing Crepi Il lupo or I would think the mission after saving caterina Sforza on the bridge would work too
