There are no manual saves in Black Flag or in any of the games prior to Origins

When you load the game, it will load from the last save, which was an auto save

I know there are no manual saves, but when I load a game it doesnt load from the last checkpoint

so what are the auto saves for?

It’s just how the system saves the game. When you do some action like sync a viewpoint, open a chest, finish a quest, etc, the game auto saves. If you quit, and reload, you’ll load into the game at that point where the game last saved.

If you restart a memory, then unless there’s a checkpoint that partially saved your progress, then the mission will start at the beginning. But there is no choosing an autosave to reload from. There is pretty much only 1 save that the game will load up each time you load back into the game
