i wanna start playing the ac games. i already bought a few the few being ac 1 ac unity ac valhalla ac syndicate ac shadows and ac black flag. is there a specific order i need to play them in?

Middle East, Vikings, Shinobi, Isu, Templars, Hidden Ones, Modern Day story... 2007 was first release, so complicated, lots of detailed lists on line, here are some good sources: 'Access the Animus' is ~ 13 + years along and rich in lore detail, ' The Hidden One' youtuber, IGN, Ubisoft. Search for AC timeline, order to play. ( And then there is the transmedia, books, comics that fill in the gaps) I prefer the modern RPGs and modern technology, having played all AC games. Unity on PC looks great and functions well. Black Flag is best on console but 30 fps, bad PC port || Odyssey is Isu lore rich. Origins is the start of the Hidden Ones <Odyssey DLC>, Shadows is top tier cutting edge game engine technology and lightly touches on Hidden Ones and Templars, no Isu. || You have time to play Mirage in full for 11/18/25 Valley Memories DLC release, but not play Valhalla ( very long) in relation to Valhalla's link to Mirage. Unity is fine to play on ps5 but the story is still as bad as shadows. That’s why I recommend syndicate instead. Evi fry and Jacob fry are who Arno and Elise was supposed to be but ruined it.

If you look past the story you might like the game

But playing a story game with a bad story defeats the whole purpose of a story game.

I have been playing Assassin's Creed since the release of the first game and while AC1 is my favorite I think Unity is fantastic imho, one of my personal favorites, and Shadows is probably the best RPG of the RPG's to come out in my opinion. Stealth gameplay is the best it has ever been in the series with Shadows.

Do yourself a favor and formulate your own opinion through the journey you take on this franchise, this is one of the most divided fanbases out there. Everyone has a different feeling and connection to the characters and lore before you.

There were a ton of issues on release, correct, they eventually came out with a patch that works. I can go through the whole story on console right now on my PS5 just fine. I play it consistently every single day almost on PC. If it was truly as bad as people act - majority were just mad that the parkour was the way it was and the executives forcing microtransactions at the time - I and others would not be playing it to this day.

Again to prove that opinions vary, I for one think Unity has some of the best written characters and formulated story in the entire franchise. Arno is a character I feel very sympathetic for. I don't feel that way for half the others in the franchise.

A lot of why unity got hate was not the story, it was indeed the broken state it was launched in because of the executive decision to ship it at the same time as Rogue. Developers were known for pushing back on this and it is ultimately what cost some of them their jobs at Ubisoft.

The portal is pretty handy for people who can't sit in one spot. A friend of mine has several kids and so when he wants to try and get a mission done on a game while his kids are relaxing in the living room he just uses the portal while they're lying down watching tv or something calm like that.
