#Remove homing missiles (and the countermeasure)

You can fight planes with a lot more than missiles, and missiles are not the most effective. Gauss and Rivet gun do some serious damage on planes from long range, and if you wanna get close you can bring ELC.

The countermeasure is not mandatory either, since you can break LoS from missiles, or shoot them down. Plus it's very cheap, so what about bringing the countermeasure if missiles are a problem for you? it's literally designed for that, and it's cheaper than a single missile.

Ofc it's about timing, but if you're bad at timing, nothing stops you from bringing more than one Countermeasure.

If a good hit disables or kills you, build better

Disagree on this, missiles aren't actually that dangerous in a dogfight with a well built plane and countermeasures. They just don't hit that reliably (even without deliberate dodging) and don't deal that much damage. Not to say that they aren't useful, but definitely not "the meta".

That said — I do think countermeasures are an important part of missile interactions and that they should be unlocked for free.

though i have no issue if just make it one of Osprey standard issue nodes

Removing is jumping the gun when you could rework both. e.g Missiles could turn to where you aim, then head straight.
My only real 2 cents.

I don't fully disagree with the idea of removing a weapon with homing, but not for any of the reasons you mentioned in this post

#

And especially not by restricting it to ground units, as it's not a nuanced solution at all and doesn't solve anything

missiles are meant to be effective against aircrafts

man yall prob right im high as shit

and even so, aircraft still have many ways to evade them

i wouldnt sweat it its prob just worded strongly, if this was "missiles aren't fun to play against" thats probably a more effective post and people might agree on that one even tho the premise is similar in practice

if i made a post trying to address missiles as a problem i would mainly outline how they're uninteresting to use and fight against, effectively making their existence redundant and them needing some extra spice

#

there's no arguing that they're "too strong", nobody agrees with that, and I've read the post while mentally pretending for a moment that missiles are indeed overpowered and i still disagreed with it
